Vic’s P.O.V.

We all took seats around the room and moved them closer together. We didn’t crowd the bed but we made a kind of circle next to it with a coffee table in the middle. Tony offered to grab some food and we all accepted. Before he left he stole a glance at Lily and smiled. Our circle was too big for just the four of us. We had a couch, the two recliners, a rocking chair, and two over stuffed armchairs. Mike and I took recliners, Jaime sat in one of the armchairs, and Tony had claimed the rocking chair. We sat there in silence, reaccepting that Lily was alive. A nurse came in to hook Lily up to the heart monitor. “Does she have any comfort objects?” the nurse asked. Mike and I shook our head. “Yeah.” Jaime said. “Why?” “In case she wakes up, she doesn’t have an anxiety attack that could trigger another asthma attack. She may not remember you, but something she has always had will be easier to remember.” “Should I go grab it?” Jaime asked. The nurse nodded. He left and the nurse took a seat in the other armchair. “I’ll tell you guys this so that you can tell your friends when they get back. Lily is young but her brain is very complex. The extended period where her brain was deprived from oxygen could have killed some brain cells. We don’t know how this has affected her but once she wakes up we’ll find out. The doctor has asked me to ask you to avoid the bed once she wakes up. You may cause her to remember something bad and it may take longer for her to recover, or you may help her. He asks that unless he approves, that Lily doesn’t know or ever find out that you are here.” “Okay.” I said. She left us alone in the room. I leaned back in the recliner and took a deep breath. “After this I’m only taking her online shopping.” “Agreed.”
