The Curse

Chapter 33: "It's Good Enough To Make Me Want To Fall In Love"

“We should wait to tell the guys until we go to the doctor,” Vic said, one hand on the side of my face. We were both lying on our sides, facing each other, on the bed.

I nodded in agreement. “Vic, I’m worried,” I said.

“Why, darling?” he said, his face concerned.

“Well, I’m only a few weeks in, I guess, so you never know what could happen,” I said quietly.

“Just hope for the best, sweetheart,” he said,

“But couldn’t this be dangerous? Remember where I got shot…” I said. I was pretty sure I was damaged in those parts thanks to Jake shooting me.

Vic suddenly knew exactly why I was worried. “That’s why we’ll go to the doctor. Tomorrow we will,” he said reassuringly, but his eyes remained concerned. “Come on, let’s go watch movies with the guys. Don’t want to keep them wondering,” he said softly. I kissed him lightly on the lips, and then we got up to join Tony, Mike, and Jaime to have a movie marathon.

“Everything okay?” Jaime asked when we returned.

“Yes, everything’s great, now,” I said, smiling broadly.

Everything was great. There were risks, definitely, but, for now, everything was great.

~~

I sat nervously in the doctor’s office. At least Vic was by my side. I couldn’t imagine doing this by myself.

“Okay, we have the results,” the doctor came in, finally, smiling. “You definitely are pregnant! Congratulations!”

Vic squeezed my hand, and I smiled happily.

“And, yes, your worries were rational ones. We will have to be watching you very closely, dear, in order to avoid complications,” she added.

“Complications,” I repeated lowly to myself.

“Yes, there is definitely a risk that the baby will be affected negatively by the implications of your previous injury. However, miracles happen!” she smiled encouragingly.

“Miracles happen?” I repeated to myself, again. Miracles happen? “So I would need a miracle in order for this to go well?” I asked, furrowing my eyebrows. I felt like I was going to be sick.

“I’m sorry; those were the wrong words, dear. The internal damage is extensive, but you do have a fine chance of a non-complicated pregnancy. The risks are just higher than in your average pregnancy in average circumstances,” she clarified.

I didn’t know if I felt better or worse about things after she refined her previous statement. I looked at Vic, who also looked worried.

“I would wait to tell friends and family, but only because it’s so early,” she continued. That didn’t make me feel any better, either. “But don’t worry. We say that to every patient; you are only four weeks in, and this is a risky time period across the board.” I nodded. I didn’t know what to say or what to feel. Vic squeezed my hand, drawing circles on the top of my hand with his thumb. “So, come back in about a month, and don’t be afraid to call if you have any questions,” she smiled, and then she left.

“Vic, what is this going to mean for the band?” I asked, another source of concern floating into my mind.

“What do you mean?”

“Well, I won’t be able to perform because the concerts could be too much stress for the… for the baby,” it felt weird saying “baby” already. “And then after I have it—” if I have it, “—both of us will be obligated to it and touring will be nearly impossible, and—” I was beginning to ramble when Vic stopped me.

“Shh, babe, it’s okay,” he said, rubbing my arm. “We’ll figure it out as we go,” he said. “This is first priority—”

“But what about the fans? We can’t neglect them,” I said, cutting him off.

“We just had an amazing tour, and we’ve been playing shows often. And we are writing for a new album. That’s what we will do—we will make an album, and then you are going to have our baby, then we will get married, and then we will find a way to tour. Don’t worry, yet, okay?” he said.

I sighed, sinking into the chair. “It’s going to be okay, sweetheart,” Vic said softly. He kissed me on the cheek. “Let’s go home.”

~~

“Vic, I know the doctor said not to tell anyone, yet, but I feel like we need to tell the other guys,” I truthfully told him. “I don’t know; I just feel like we need them. The first few months are going to be scary,” I added.

“I know what you mean,” he replied. “I think they’d be offended if we didn’t tell them right away, anyway,” he noted.

“It’s like we are in a relationship with them, too,” I giggled, rolling my eyes.

Vic chuckled lightly. “Alright, let’s just go ahead and do it,” he said, and we walked into the house, hand in hand.

Luckily, Tony and Jaime were already here.

“FAMILY MEETING. LIVING ROOM. NOW,” I yelled when we entered the house. The guys were all scattered around, doing God knows what, but they instantly appeared in the living room.

“What’s cookin’ good lookin’?” Jaime crackled, plopping down on the sofa. I giggled. Shit, I literally had something cooking inside of me. I peeked over at Vic, who was smiling to himself, as well.

“What you need to say, tell us,” Tony said seriously in Yoda-language. Leave it to my best friends slash brothers to brighten my day without even intending to.

“We have good news, and we have bad news,” I said.

“Good news first!” Mike squealed like a kindergartener.

“Lucky for you, Michael, the good news has to come first, otherwise you’d have no idea what we are talking about,” I said. I took a deep breath, and Vic nodded, giving me the okay. “I’m pregnant!” I said excitedly, unable to contain the smile the stretched across my face. Mike, Tony, and Jaime jumped up in surprise and joy, dancing around like morons.

“WE’RE HAVING A BABY!” Mike exclaimed. I laughed hysterically, pulling him into a tight hug.

“But what’s the bad news?” Jaime asked after everyone calmed down from the excitement. My heart shuddered when I remembered. I didn't want to say it.

“The doctor said we have to watch her very closely, because she has a high risk of complications during the pregnancy,” he said lowly. The previous excitement that had filled the air suddenly dissipated.

“Why is that?” Tony asked, furrowing his eyebrows.

I patted my stomach gently. “When I was shot…” was all I managed to say.

Thank God for Mike, though, always being able to finish my thoughts. “Oh, you’re lady parts are all fucked up from being shot,” Mike concluded. I nodded, blushing.

“Correct, you are,” I said quietly.

“We’ll keep you safe,” Jaime said, hugging my torso gently. “Just be chill in there, okay, lil man?” he said, speaking into my stomach. I ruffled Jaime’s hair.

“Jaime, you goof ball! I’m only a month in, and why are you assuming it’s a boy?” I asked. I really needed another girl in this house.

“Because Vic’s a man. And men only create other men,” Mike chimed in, making his voice go an octave lower. Vic punched him in the arm, but we all laughed.

“Step aside, Jaime, I need to talk to this little monster,” Tony said, kneeling down so his head was level with my belly button. He started waving his hands around by my stomach severely, his face lost in focus.

“Tony, what the hell are you doing?” I laughed.

“Shh! I’m using the force. This little Jedi is going to be just fine,” he said after another few moments of concentration. I patted his head.

“Thanks for that,” I giggled.

“My turn!” Mike said, bouncing over to me. I rolled my eyes.

“Sup, shithead,” Mike nodded to my stomach. I smacked him in the head.

“Language, Mike!” I exclaimed. “And he is not a shithead,” I said. “Or she, she is not a shithead, either,” I added.

“Sorry, sorry. This is just going to be one chill motherfucker—”

“Mike!” I smacked him in the head, again. “You’re done here!”

“No, no! I’m sorry, I’m sorry! One more minute,” he grinned. “This is going to be magical,” Mike smiled evilly. I knew where he was going with this.

“I’m sorry, Mike, but I already made him a Jedi. He can’t be a wizard, too,” Tony said.

“You’re going to have to have another one after this, then, bear, because I need a little wizard friend,” Mike said sadly.

We laughed. “Yeah, because I can pop them out like it’s no big deal,” I said sarcastically.

“Well, we sure can’t,” Mike said, referring to the fact that they were all boys and lacked those special female organs.

“Aw, shit, Mike. This whole time I thought you were a girl,” I frowned, crossing my arms. “How did I miss that?” I sighed, frustrated.

“I’d nudge you playfully, but you’re pregnant,” Mike glared at me, grinning, though.

“Hey, can I have a turn, now?” Vic jutted his bottom lip out. He knelt down to my stomach, and then he kissed my belly. “Be a good baby for me. See you in several months,” he said softly, kissing my skin again.

Damn. I didn’t know where I would be without these four boys. They were all shitheads, but they were the chillest motherfuckers I will ever know.
