Feels Like War

Echo’s POV:

Amy is at her friend’s house. I have to leave before she gets back. I throw in all my clothes, which is not a lot, into my suitcase. Then, my hygiene stuff, my notebook (for writing in. I always document what I’m thinking.), pencils and pens. I hesitate for a moment, then grab my stuffed bear from all those years ago. I kept it. It was the only thing I had left connecting me to my mother.

“Echo! Look what I got for you!” My mother exclaimed. She sat a stuffed, cloth bear on my bed. It was a pastel pink, and had buttons for eyes.
I loved it.

I placed him in my backpack. “Hang in there, Noodle.” I whispered. For some reason, I decided that the pink teddy bear was male and promptly named him Noodle.

I got out a sticky note and addressed it to my family.

Amy, Dad-
First off, I love you guys. I just want you to know that.
Dad, I’m happy to hear that you’re out of the hospital. But I’m sorry to say that you won’t be seeing me. I’m glad you’re home. After all, that’s why you’d be reading this note. Keep taking your medication, and don’t overdrink. Stay strong, I know mother would be proud of you. Take care of Amy, even though she’ll say she doesn’t need taking care of.
Amy, keep getting good grades. I can’t believe how smart you are. You’re the great student I never was. Don’t get too distracted with Pokemon. I know it's a great game, but right now, studying is more important. I know you’ll do great. I took Noodle, he’ll be fine. Look after Dad and make sure he takes his medication, all right?
And now I’m going to tell you where on Earth am I.
I’m joining the army. I am eligible. I will be 18 on the cutoff date. I know, I know, I’m not even 17 and a half yet, but Dad, you need to rest. You cannot be on the battlefield, no matter what you say. Don’t come looking for me.
