Feels Like War

You Should Sing My Name

Echo's POV:

I made my way towards the meeting place of all the soldiers, which was at the huge airport in our city. Apparently we had a special meeting place.

I caught a bus there, hoping I brought enough, hoping I didn't bring too much. After all, I brought a small suitcase and a backpack...

I figured there were some people on the bus going to the airport to join the army as well. They had backpacks and suitcases, dressed in casual clothing.

"Next stop, the airport! Those who are getting off, grab your bags and get ready. Thank you for riding with us." The bus driver announced.

As I made my way off the bus, I noticed people gathering everywhere. There were a lot of people crying.

"Don't leave!"
"Promise me you'll be safe!"
"I love you!"
"Don't be stupid, please come back alive!"
"I'll miss you, we'll miss you!"

I guess they were saying goodbye to their loved ones. I didn't have anyone to say goodbye to me. I guess it was for the better.

I had no idea where I was supposed to go, so I just followed a guy who I was guessing was going to the same place as me.

Finally, he stopped outside of a room with heavy doors, guarded by two men stiffly standing with guns in their hands. There was a table with a sharply dressed woman sitting behind a computer.

"What's your name?" The woman asked the guy I was following.
"Jaime. Jaime Preciado." He answered. The woman typed some stuff quickly into her computer.
"Jaime Preciado of San Diego, California. Age 19, turning 20 in a few days. Please put your finger here." She motioned towards a scanner. After scanning his fingerprint, he was allowed in.

"What's your name?" The woman asked me, just like she had asked that Jaime guy.
"Um... Echo. Echo Cynthia (insert last name here)." I replied.
"You look young," the woman commented, "So... Echo Cynthia of San Diego, California, age 17, will be 18 by the deadline. Okay." I put my finger on the scanner. She motioned for me to go in the doors, but I didn't. Not yet.
"Um, can I... change my name? I don't want my family to come looking for me." I stammer.
"Sure thing."
"I want to change my name to..." I thought for a while, running through a mental list of names. "I want my name to be Elle Carter."
"Alright. Welcome, Elle Carter."

Notes
