No Going Back

Mike’s P.O.V.
I wake up to the soft sound of moaning. Lily was across the bed, rolling. “No!” she whispered. I stretched across the bed then grabbed her and brought her back to me. I propped up the pillows so I could sit. I picked her up and cradled her in my arms. I gently rocked while I hummed Bulletproof Love. That seemed to calm her down because her fearful fidgeting and scared cries for help seemed to stop. Her facial expression became more relaxed so I slumped down and fixed the pillows. Lily’s head was on my shoulder in the crook of my neck and her arm was across my chest. I wedged my under her stomach and hugged her around the hip, making sure she couldn’t move again. I moved my head and looked at her. It made me happy to look at this little girl in a teenage body who we called our own. She was perfect but she never saw that. I moved my head back and she nuzzled hers farther into my neck. I rested my head on hers and drifted back to sleep.
