No Going Back
Sitting In The Park
Vic’s P.O.V
I picked Lily up off the swing, sat crossed legged in the grass, and held her tight with my chin on her head. I sat there like that till Lily rested her head on my arm.
“So why’d you run?” I asked softly.
“I always do.” I leaned over and looked at her. ”When my parents yelled at each other, it got so loud you couldn’t think. I hated to hear them yell and they never stopped unless they were yelling at me, so I’d sneak out my bedroom window and swing on the swing set in our backyard. Sometimes they’d notice but most times I was alone. It was quieter and if it was raining I could cry and they’d never know. They hated when I cried. They called me a fagot. A weak, cry baby, fagot.” I pulled her closer.
“You’re not a fagot.”
“Thanks, but I am. That’s why I started.” She said as she rubbed her arms.
“Are you going to tell me where your blades are?”
“I’m not ready yet.”
“Will you ever be?”
“I hope so.”
“Whenever you’re ready. No rush, just promise me that you won’t cut while you have them.”
“Okay.” She said shyly. She laid her head on my chest and wiped her face. She must have been crying.
“Let’s head back.”
“Can we just sit a little while longer?” she asked.
“Yeah, sure.” She snuggled into my lap and I hugged her tighter. We sat there like that for a long time, then she got up and I stood up. She grabbed my hand and we walked back.
