Without You There Is No Me

Nineteen

Lauren was in love with Savannah. Savannah loved Lauren back. But then she found Aidan. How could her love waver that much? It had never occurred to me before that two people could have the same person. I always just assumed that if you were a person to one of the Haunted you were set for life.
Lauren said that everything is linked. How right she was. Savannah linked them together. I can't help thinking there's more to it though. Aidan and Lauren are linked in some other way. There are ways I could find out. There must be.
But Lauren won't tell me. If she won't there's only one person I could reach out to. But it won't be easy to get information from them. I rushed over to Aidian's desk to look through books. My eyes scanned the pages but I couldn't find anything. Mike and Vic both watched me closely, but didn't say anything.
I took my phone out and dialled Rich's number quickly. I bit my lip anxiously as I waited. "Hello?" Rich asked.
"Him it's Hannah." I said.
"Oh, Hannah. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. I've just got a question."
"Is it about Carrie?"
"Not this time." I told him.
"What would you like to know?"
"Is it possible to summon and talk to a spirit that has passed over into the light?" I asked.
"Possible, yes," he sighed. "But it's harder. There a things that will help get a hopefully quick reaction."
"What are those?"
"Summoning them in a place that either meant very much to the deceased or their final resting place. Taking something of theirs as a offering. Then just have the usual things like candles, quiet."
"Okay, thank you."
"Who is you're trying to get in touch with?" Rich asked.
"Aidan." I admitted.
"Good luck." he told me gently before I hung up.
"What's happening?" Vic asked.
"We need to go to the cemetery again."
"Why?" Mike asked.
"We need to try and call Aidan." I explained.
I went over to a shelf and grabbed a few candles. I threw them to Mike and he caught them with ease. Vic came over to me and took my hand. "Are you sure?" he asked.
"Definitely." I smiled.
We headed to the staircase and walked up stairs. When I walked into the sitting room I saw everyone had come back. They watched us and frowned at Mike who still had the candles. "What's going on?" Jess asked.
"We need to do something, Jess." Vic said.
"Do what?"
"Summon someone." I explained.
"Oh, are we going now?" she asked and I nodded.
"The person we're summoning is Aidan." I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
"My Aidan." she gasped.
"You don't have to come." I quickly said.
"No, I do." she swallowed hard. Jaime hugged her to him and kissed her cheek gently.
"Can I come?" Carrie asked.
"No, you stay with Tony." I told her and Tony nodded. Carrie sighed but sat back in defeat.
Jess and Jaime stood up and we walked towards the door. Jess took her mom's car keys and opened up. Jess and Jaime sat in the front seat while Mike, Vic and I sat in the back. Jess reversed out onto the road and started driving.
"Are you okay with this?" I asked Jess carefully.
"No. But if I miss it I'll never forgive myself." she muttered.
When we reached the cemetery Jess parked up. We got out of the car and Vic took my hand. "Breathe through it." he told me. I tried to calm myself and started walking forwards. Jaime and Jess went through the gate first. Vic was to my side and Mike was just behind me. It was like they were creation a barrier around me. The moment I walked through the gate the voices in my head started. They were only talking right now. They didn't knew I could hear them.
"We're close." Jess told us. She stopped in front of a grave. It was made of marble. I got onto my knees and ran my fingers over the gold lettering.
"Aidan." I breathed.
I sat down on the grass properly and crossed my legs. I placed each of my palms onto the grass and spread my fingers, just over where six feet below Aidan's soulless skull would be.
"Light the candles." Jess ordered. Vic took one of the candles while Mike took the other. He got out a lighter and lit them up.
Everyone around knee why we were here now. They knew what I could do. The talking turned to screaming and I winced. I tried so hard to block it out. I flexed my neck from one side to the other. The sound of nails scratching on wood was becoming faint. I closed my eyes and I could barely hear it now. Vic pulled my hair out of my face and my eyes opened. "You can do it." he told me gently.
I sighed and closed my eyes again. In my mind's eye I could see a light. It was coming from me. It was yellow with a white centre. The light shot away and bathed the entire churchyard in light. I could feel the warmth it was emitting. I smiled gently and sighed.
"Go on." Jess urged.
My head snapped back and I felt something warm down my throat, almost as if I had swallowed hot soup. "“I call upon the Dead and passed over!" I called, my voice strong. "Aidan, if you are able and ready speak to us now at your final resting place. Indicate your presence and readiness by showing yourself to me!"
I could feel a cold breeze rush through the air. My eyes opened and I saw a pale shadow. He wasn't strong enough. "I bring your notebook! Your own words as an offering!" I called. I looked and saw the shadow was becoming solid. He was here. He was really here. I could see his dark hair blowing in the wind I'd made. His blue eyes were shining bright. His skin was so healthy looking it seemed to be glowing.
Aidan sat inches away from me slouching on his own gravestone. He looked at me and titled his head to the side. "My notes." he said, confused.
"Is he here?" Jess asked.
"Jessica." Aidan gasped. He got off of the stone and settled himself where she was sitting. He took hold of her and placed a kiss on her cheek. "So grown up. She's beautiful." he said and looked back to me. "How do you know her?"
"She's my best friend." I explained.
"What's he doing?" Mike asked.
"Looking at Jess. He thinks you're grown up."
"Is he by me?" Jess asked, tears filling her eyes.
"He's hugging you." I told her.
"You you go on? Into the light." Jess asked.
"I did. It's so beautiful. I can't tell you. Don't even think of joining me yet. Not yet." he said.
"He's happy. He likes it there." I told Jess.
"Why did you summon me back?" he asked me suddenly.
"What happened with Savannah and Lauren?" I asked.
"Sav' loved Lauren. She was with her before."
"She was her person?" I asked.
"Yeah," he nodded. "But she met me at the park. She was my person too. Sav' left Lauren and came to me. The attack... so brutal. Lauren didn't stand a chance. By the time Sav' went to try and save her it was too late. She was gone so my attack started too. They used me. They killed me. Like a fucking pawn." Aidan spat.
"How did they use you?" I asked.
"I can't... not now. Not with Jessica. I don't want her to see or know. She'll hate it." he rushed.
"I need to know." I said desperately.
"Tonight, through sleep. I'll come in your dreams. I must go back after. This place, down here... it's far too cruel. I don't like it. The light is so bright, it calls everyone here but they're so afraid. They don't want to risk going down. The pain hides the light." he said quickly.
"Okay." I nodded.
"I love you, Jessica. My girl." Aidan smiled. "Tell her to look in my room under the bed. There's a locked trunk. Bust it open. It's for her."
"I'll tell her." I nodded. "He's going." I told Jess.
"I love you." Jess said through tears. He pressed a kiss to her cheek and this time she felt it. She brought her hand to her cheek and Aidan stood back.
"I set your soul free!" I called. Aidan smiled and took a few steps back before he disappeared. I collapsed back onto the grass, panting. Until tonight.

Notes

Hey! I really liked this chapter! We've finally kind of met Aidan. Was he okay? What about Jess? What do you think was so horrible he doesn't want his baby sister to know? :)
