Runaway

At Least I've Got Real Friends

Rachel walked through a corridor and up a set of stairs. Tony had his hand entwined with hers and she smiled. They reached backstage and they stopped. Jaime, Vic and Mike were behind them talking. Vic kept looking at Rachel and Tony, then nodding to himself.
"Are you nervous?" Rachel asked Tony anxiously.
"Not that much," he laughed. "It's only a charity event. But we're home so a lot of local fans will be here,"
"I would be so nervous,"
"You wouldn't need to be," he reassured her.
"Um . . . Tony?" Rachel asked.
"Yeah?" he replied. Rachel didn't talk as someone passed him his guitar. A tech behind him started wiring him up and gave him a pair of plugs for his ears. Tony looked at Rachel curiously once he was ready.
"Have you told the others that we're dating?" she questioned.
"No," he muttered. "I didn't know whether you'd want that," Tony said.
"I don't mind. It's just that Vic keeps glancing over,"
"Oh, don't worry about it," he smiled.
"Line up! Sixty seconds," someone called. Tony got into position with the others. Rachel hugged him and he smiled into her hair. Tony squeezed her gently and they finally broke away. They ran out on stage and Rachel slowly walked to side stage.
Rachel watched as they preformed their set. She sometimes spoke with the techs and friends or family that had been invited. But as it drew to an end Rachel felt a tap on her shoulder. A tall, dark haired, tattooed woman stood in front of her. Rachel smiled and the woman grinned back.
"I'm Megan!" the woman called above the noise.
"Rachel!" Rachel called back.
"Do me a favour? Can you tell Tony that I dropped by,"
"They're nearly finished," she told her.
"I need to go. But tell him,"
"Megan who?"
"Just Megan. He'll know who you mean," she explained.
"Sure," Rachel nodded. Megan disappeared into the crowd. Rachel was led back stage as they finished. She waited in their room and they walked in, sweating. Tony came up to her and she hugged him.
"You were fantastic," Rachel told him.
"Thanks," he grinned.
"Oh, before I forget. Someone stopped by. She said to let you know she came,"
"Who?" Tony asked.
"Megan," Rachel replied. Tony let go of her and took a step back. He looked at her strangely and then went over to Jaime and Mike.
"Hey, Rach!" Vic called. Rachel walked over and he grinned at her.
"You did great," she told him.
"Glad you think so," Vic replied happily. "There's something I need to do," he explained. Vic looked over to Tony who was watching him. Then he leant in and crushed his lips to Rachel's. Rachel stood back in shock and glared at Vic. She put her hands on her hips and turned to see Tony edging his way out of the room. Rachel brought her hand up and slapped Vic hard on the cheek.
"Fuck," Vic muttered and held his cheek.
"Never kiss me again," she almost hissed before leaving the room. Tony looked after Rachel as she left the room. He frowned and leant against the wall. Vic looked at him and brought a hand up to his cheek. He rubbed it and Mike walked over to Tony instead of his brother. "You okay?" Mike asked seriously.
"No," Tony muttered. Tony turned to walk from the room. Mike tried to stop him but Tony pulled away angrily. "Don't touch me," Tony spat. He hurried out of the room. Then Mike turned to Vic who was sitting with Jaime. Mike went over to him and knelt down in front of him. Mike widened his eyes angrily.
"What the fuck, Vic?!" he demanded.
"Don't," Vic warned.
"Man, you need to explain," Jaime said quietly.
"Why did you do it? You know how Tony feels," Mike sighed.
"That's why I did it," Vic explained quickly.
"What do you mean?"
"The longer he waits the harder it'll be to get Rachel. He'll only do something if someone else does. He'll realise that Rachel didn't want me to kiss her, he'll be pissed off a day, write some guitar riffs then apologise for being so distant. All before he asks Rachel out and she says yeah," Vic explained easily.
"Wow, that's actually a pretty solid plan," Jaime commented.
"Accept what if she doesn't say yes? You've fucked up with both Tony and Rachel," Mike told him.
"That wouldn't happen. Right?" Vic asked hopefully.
"You need to sort this out. Now," Mike warned.
"Fine," Vic sighed.
"Give Tony some time. He needs to cool off," Jaime added.
"Yeah," Vic nodded. He got up and slowly made his way out of the room. He walked down a few corridors. Rachel was sat in a corner, muttering to herself angrily. Vic approached her cautiously. "Um . . . Rachel?" Vic asked. She looked up and glared when she saw him.
"Go away," she snapped.
"I wanted to say sorry," he tried.
"I don't want to hear it,"
"Look, I didn't mean to kiss you,"
"Your lips just fell onto mine?" she mocked.
"I only did it to help you,"
"What? Help Tony and I break up?"
"You're together?" Vic asked, shocked. Rachel looked down before she met his eyes. She slowly nodded.
"He asked me at Jaime's party," she explained.
"Shit," Vic breathed. He pulled at his hair and slid down the wall next to Rachel. "I've really fucked up,"
"Yeah," she agreed.
"And you said yes?"
"Don't sound so shocked," she smiled a little.
"Sorry," he grinned. "But he asked you. We didn't know, he never said anything,"
"He wasn't sure I wanted everyone knowing," Rachel explained.
"Do you?"
"I think so," she nodded. "It's the only thing that's going to get it in his head that I want to be with him,"
"Probably," Vic shrugged.
"Can I ask you something?"
"Shoot," Vic smiled.
"Why did you kiss me?"
"Oh, I was trying to get you together,"
"How?!" she exclaimed.
"Simple. Tony runs away, gets depressed for a day or two, asks you out and everything's fine,"
"But he'd already asked," Rachel commented.
"And I'm dreading talking to him. I'm really sorry by the way,"
"It's okay, Vic," Rachel told him. "Can we make a deal?"
"What kind of deal?" Vic questioned.
"I could talk to Tony for you. I'm the only person he'd want to see right now,"
"Really?" Vic asked hopefully.
"Yeah, but I need you to help me with something,"
"Oh," he muttered.
"I want you to mention me while your on stage next week. Just that I'm Tony's girlfriend,"
"Are you sure?" Vic asked quickly.
"Yes,"
"You know it'll blow up. The fans will be sending you stuff. You'll just have to deal with it,"
"I know," she nodded. "Please,"
"If you're sure," he smiled.
"I'm going to talk to him," Rachel said. She stood up and looked back down on Vic. "I'm sorry I hit you. By the way, you're a good friend," she told him.
"Thanks," he beamed back. Rachel walked away. She peered down corridors looking for Tony. She eventually found him in their supporting acts empty dressing room.
"Hey," Rachel breathed softly. Tony looked up and back down again.
"Hi," he muttered.
"Can we talk?"
"I don't know,"
"About what happened,"
"I know what you're going to say. I get it,"
"I don't think you do," Rachel told him.
"You kissed Vic,"
"No," she shook her head. Rachel walked over to him and sat down next to him on the sofa. He watched her carefully. Rachel shifted closer to him and he moved. She waited until he was sitting on the arm of the sofa. "I don't want you to blame Vic,"
"It was his fault,"
"Yeah, but he didn't mean it," Rachel said and Tony rolled his eyes.
"He didn't mean to kiss my girlfriend. It just happened, Rach? Come on, I'm not stupid," Tony growled.
"If you think I would ever choose to be with Vic, then yes, you are stupid!" she exclaimed.
"Why wouldn't you? He's a handsome guy. He's funny and talented and a great person,"
"But I don't want Vic. I want you," she said quickly.
"You do?" he asked and he couldn't hide his smile.
"Of course I do. I still want you to be my boyfriend. If you will?"
"Yeah," Tony nodded happily.
"Can I have a hug?" she asked anxiously.
"Come here," he urged. He opened his arms for her and she got up. Rachel walked into his arms and rested her head on his shoulder. Rachel sighed gently and Tony laughed a little. Tony held her close to him. She pulled away a little to look at him.
"You know Vic was trying to get us together. He was hoping you would get annoyed enough to ask me," Rachel said.
"Really?" Tony asked quietly.
"Are you mad at him?"
"I was," he muttered. "But not so much anymore,"
"Good, because he's a good friend to you,"
"He is," he agreed.
"Will you talk to him? Don't be horrible to him,"
"I won't. I'll just make him suffer for a few hours,"
"Tony," she warned.
"Relax," he chuckled. He leant in to kiss her. Rachel leant in too. Their lips met and she let him hold her closer. Rachel's arms wrapped around Tony's neck and he pulled her down onto his lap. She laughed and shifted where she was now sitting. They started to wobble and fell down onto the sofa. Tony pulled away, breaking the kiss. He looked at Rachel cautiously, but she was laughing. He grinned back and her and wrapped his arms around her waist.

@Layla
Yay! No more Megan! Things will be . . . different now. Tony and Rachel still have things they need to face. Next time it just won't be in the form of a crazy, psychopathic ex hook up buddy! :)

@Gabriela_perry
