I Breathe You In With Smoke.
You're Cold, But You Pretend That You Are Warm With Me.
1 WEEK LATER
"Mya. MYA LET'S GO!" My head snapped up and I looked at Rachel.
"You gotta stop spacing out like this. I know you're hurt, but it's going to cost you your job, hun."
"S-Sorry... Can I take a 5?" She gave me a sympathetic look and nodded. I walked around the counter, walking out as I heard her bark orders at the cooks. I heard my phone ring and I groaned, pulling it out and answering it.
"Tony, you call one more time, I'm blocking your number."
"Wait! Just please hear me out okay?"
"Oh sure, explain in detail how you fucked me over for the last 2 months we were dating."
"Stop, My's. I love you.. Just-"
"I loved you too, Tony."
"Loved? No.."
"Bye, Tony."
"I WAS WITH HER BEFORE I EVEN KNEW YOU!"
"Oh, so you were cheating on me since day one, huh?"
"IT'S NOT LIKE THAT! W-We were never anything official. Just a fuck, but a-after I met you, I cut ties... She thought we had been dating. After you left, I got desperate and- I'm sorry okay, I fucked up!"
"Yeah, you did.." I whispered. "It's cool, I'm over it."
"So what, that's it..."
"I'm tired of being so naive and getting walked on. I've spent my whole life never being enough, and I thought we were... something. You proved me wrong."
"I'll make it up to you, I swear."
"That hurt can't be patched up by money, gifts, or anything. It's too late."
"Well, then... What are we?"
"Goodbye, Tone."
"I don't know what that means!" He screamed as I hung up the phone.
It meant that I was tired of giving out chances.
I ran around the diner, trying to hear which kids from which table were screaming their orders at me.
I hated Free Fridays where kids under 8 got to eat for half price. I prayed that Amelia -Which is the name that Vic and Jas had agreed on- wasn't as... obnoxious as these little boogers.
I was scared for Jas. I mean, she would call me at 2,3, even 4 in the morning, screaming in pain. Vic was there with her, but she insisted on calling me. I was fine with it, and Rachel, of course understood. I knew that in the end, it would all be worth it.
Vic and Jasmine would have a beautiful baby girl that could play with Ruby and Copeland and-
I snapped out of my thoughts when I had heard my phone ringing.
"Comin' right up." I told the table I was serving. I quickly flipped my book closed and put my phone under the counter to see who was calling. I sighed and answered it.
"Vic, make it quick. I'm at work and it's busy." I told him, pouring one of my regulars a new cup of coffee.
"It's time." He said and hung up. I dropped the pot of coffee, it shattering as it came in contact with the tile floor.
2 weeks early?
"MYA WHAT THE HELL?!"
"Keys. Now." Rachel's eyes got wide.
"Shit, Jasmine? Go, go!" She screamed and threw me the keys. I caught them and booked it out of the diner, doing 90 in a 50, praying to God I didn't get killed as I raced to the SD hospital almost 2 hours away.
Hospitals.
They've always scared the shit out of me.
Just something about them.
How in one room, there is a life being brought into the world and everyone is crying out of happiness.
"Look at our little bundle of joy."
or
"I love you so much, I'm so proud of you."
But down the hall it's the opposite.
Nothing happy about what's going on behind those walls.
A family is crying tears of sadness as they say their last words to a loved one or they will sit around the bed, hoping and praying that they will wake up.
I couldn't stand this place, but I'd walk through fire for Jasmine. I didn't hesitate to run through those automatic sliding doors, goosebumps littering my arms at the chilling temperature as I ran up to the front desk.
"WHERE IS SHE?!"
"Miss, calm d-" The receptionist started, but I saw Jaime and the guys sitting in plastic chairs down the hall, in tears.
"GUYS!" I screamed. Jaime stood up and caught me in a hug.
"Where is she?" Vic kept his head in his hands shaking his head slowly and sobbing silently.
"Vicky?.."
"They kicked us out. Doctors started running in and her heart monitor sped up and-" I dropped to my knees and hugged him as he cried.
"Excuse me.." We heard a deep voice boom around us. I got to my feet along with everyone else, waiting, praying for the "She's okay."
"I have some bad news."
I couldn't speak. It felt like my throat was closing up. Tears were streaming down my face at this point as questions, doubt, and denial raced through my head.
She has to be okay.
"The birth of the baby girl was indeed successful, but Miss Greyson is currently having chest pains, short of breath and some internal bleeding."
"NO!" I screamed. I felt my knees give out and felt someone catch me as I collapsed to the floor.
This isn't real... She has to be okay.
She has to be.
