What's So Good About Picking Up the Pieces?

Chapter Fifteen.

Lyla's P.O.V:

"What about this one?" Vic asked as he traced his fingers lightly over the tattoo on my inner forearm.

"That one was Austin's idea," I replied as I glanced down at the quote etched in my skin. "I remember him saying 'This way whenever you get the urge to hurt yourself you will see these words and know that the pain won't last forever.'..." I trailed off thinking back to earlier today, about how stupid I had been to start this up again. I glanced quickly at Vic and he smiled sadly at me as my eyes met his, but he didn't say anything.

We had been laying on the bed, side by side, talking all afternoon. We talked about everything, leaving almost nothing a mystery, even if it wasn't easy to discuss. We spoke for a long time about Pierce the Veil; it was amazing how much Vic's face lit up when he talked about his music, the guys, and his fans.

We talked about me a little bit, mostly about my photography, some about my modeling, and now we were discussing my many tattoos.

"And this one?" He asked after a bit of silence, moving his fingers to my other arm, to my newest addition to my body. It was on the outer edge of my other forearm: a black feather with some of the quills turning into little black birds flying away.

"I just got that one not too long before the tour started. I guess in a way it symbolizes me trying to fly away from this mess that is my life, trying to start new." All of my tattoos meant something to me, some more than others, but they all had a story, they all had a purpose for being permantly drawn onto my body.

Vic traced the tattoo with his fingers for a long time, my heart picking up its pace as his skin touched mine. Vic laughed out of the blue, and I furrowed my eyebrows at him, confused at the sudden outburst that disrupted the comfortable silence.

"What in the world are you laughing at?" I asked as I giggled a little myself. His laugh was so adorable I couldn't help but laugh along with him, even though I had no idea what we were laughing at.

"I was just remembering this one time when you specifically said 'I'll get a tattoo the day that Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake get back together.' You used to hate tattoos! It's just.....ironic," he said laughing harder than before. I felt myself blush and I covered my face with my hands, rolling away from him onto my back.

"God, why do you even remember that? I was such a weirdo! Why would I even say that?!" I said, embarrassed of my teenage obsession with Britney Spears. I was laughing along with Vic, trying to hide how embarrassed I truly was.

Our laughter died off, and I felt Vic grab my hands, pulling them away from my face. I bit my lip and shook my head at myself before gazing up at his big, brown eyes staring down at me as his face hovered over mine. We didn't say anything, just stared at each other for a while, as creepy as that sounds. Vic smiled and began to lean down slowly as his eyes darted from my eyes down to my lips and back again. Our lips moved within mere inches of each other, and I reached up to grab the back of his head softly, still gazing into his eyes. Just as our lips brushed his phone started ringing loudly, startling both of us. Vic groaned and threw his head back on the pillow before reaching over to grab his phone.

"What? Seriously? Yeah.....yeah I'll be there in a minute. Yeah, whatever. Okay....bye," I heard only Vic's side of the conversation. He hung his phone up and rubbed his face with his hands before laying back down on his back, staring up at the ceiling. "That was Tony. We have an interview that I totally forgot about in 20 minutes," he said, his voice sounding irritated.

"Then you better get going so you're not late," I said, even though the last thing I wanted was for him to go. He turned over to look at me. "Go. Now," I said sternly, smirking as I responded to his unwilling glances. I rolled off the bed and walked towards the door, opening it and motioning him out. "Out, Victor," I said, trying not to laugh, but failing as he pouted his bottom lip at me.

He finally got up and gathered his things, walking over to where I was standing. He pulled me into a tight hug, and I wrapped my arms around his neck as his encircled my waist. I stood up on my toes, burying my face into his warm neck, taking in the faint scent of his cologne that was left from last night. He separated after a while and I kissed him on the cheek.

"Bye, Lyla. I'll see you later, okay?" He said as he made his way out the door.

"You know where to find me," I responded as I smiled at him. He walked down the hallway, turning to smile at me before making his way into the elevator. I shut the door and leaned my back up against it, still grinning like an idiot.

Finally, things were looking up for once.

I grabbed my phone and decided to go next door to see Austin and the guys. I walked next door, the door opening before I could even knock.

"What's up, hot stuff," Tino said as him and Phil walked out of the room. "See ya later," they said before I could even say a word to either of them, messing up my hair as they walked past me and down the hall.

"Yeah, okay," I shouted after them before I walked into the room. Alan and Austin were sitting on one of the beds, watching, what else......Star Wars.

"Again?" I asked as I walked over to the bed, maneuvering my way over Austin to lay between the two of them.

"You can never watch Star Wars too many times, Ly-la," Alan responded, saying my name in a goofy way. I pulled the blankets over me as I moved myself close to Austin. He wrapped his arm around me as I nuzzled myself into his side.

"You okay?" he asked quietly, looking down at me. I smiled a little and closed my eyes.

"I'm getting there," I responded. Austin kissed the top of my head lightly, and I drifted off into the most peaceful sleep of my entire life.
