What's So Good About Picking Up the Pieces?

Chapter Sixteen.

Lyla's P.O.V:

"What?!!" Someone shrieked loudly, causing me to stir out of my sleep. I didn't open my eyes though; I wasn't ready to get up.

"Dude, shut up!" Austin responded. "Do not wake her Ashby....I swear to God!" He whisper-yelled at Alan, who I found to be the source of the earlier outburst.

"Why would she do that? I mean....." Alan said to Austin, his voice trailing off. Great - they were talking about me, about what happened earlier. I wanted to get up so they would stop, but I decided against it. I didn't have the energy.

"Man, I don't know. It's killing me to see her like this. I mean, I thought she stopped doing this, stopped hurting herself." Austin responded softly. "I thought that this ended when she promised me she would never do it again."

"Well did you ask her about it?" Alan asked him quickly.

"No. She hid it from me and I grabbed her wrist to pull her up, not knowing obviously, and that's when I figured it out. She started crying and apologizing, and I didn't know what to say." He paused for a while. "She's been through so much lately, and I knew yelling at her or prying into her business wouldn't make things better," he said.

"I wish she would talk to one of us, man. I know you two are attached at the hip and all, but I care about the girl. She's one of my best friends, and I don't want to see her hurt herself," Alan responded sweetly, and I felt myself smirk a little bit at how sweet he was being.

"Yeah, I know-," Austin paused and I heard his phone buzz. "Alright, Alan, I gotta go. I'll be back in a while. Keep an eye on her, okay?" He asked before walking out of the room, shutting the door quietly behind him. Great, now Alan was left to babysitt me. I decided to try to fall back asleep so I wouldn't have to face him. I relaxed and tried to drift off when I felt someone, Alan I'm assuming, sit down on top of me.

"Ughhh.....get....off of....me," I muttered out as Alan crushed me. "Seriously, Alan, get off."He moved to where he was straddling my stomach and grabbed my arm, eyeing it before eyeing me.

"Lyla Marie James.....what in the hell were you thinking?" He asked. He didn't sound angry, more concerned and upset than mad.

"Will you get off of me," I said raising my voice a little as I yanked my arm out of his grip and pushed him off of me, Alan falling onto the other side of the bed. I sat up, resting my back against the headboard. "It doesn't matter. It was stupid and it happened and I don't wanna talk about it," I mumbled as I looked down at the blanket across my lap.

"Lyyyllllaaaa," he said, drawing my name out.

"Alllllaaaaannnnn," I responded, not yet looking at him. He moved over closer to me, sitting up on his knees and looking down at me.

"Don't ever do that again, okay? You are too beautiful and amazing to do that to yourself," he said and I looked up at him to see him smiling sweetly at me. "I kinda like having you around, and I don't wanna lose you, alright?" he added. I looked at him and smirked, and he kissed the side of my head before taking a seat right next to me, tossing his arm around my shoulders.

"You don't need to babysitt me, Alan. I'll be okay by myself," I said, slightly annoyed by his closeness, but also glad to see he cares.

"What? I can't just sit here and hang with you for the hell of it?" he asked, smirking at me. "Wanna watch a movie?" he asked and I shrugged my shoulders. He flipped on the tv and scrolled through the channels until he found something that would hold his interest. We sat in silence for a while, watching the movie that was halfway over, neither of us really caring too much.

"Sorry I kissed you last night," I finally said, laughing a little at the memory of making out with Alan.

"Hey, no apology necessary my love. I'm not complaining," he said and I reached over and smacked his arm.

"And now you're back," I said, shaking my head and laughing a little. He eyed me curiously. "You were being all sweet and nice and now you're being horn-dog Alan again." I said and he tried to fight the smile that crept onto his lips. "Don't worry, I still love you," I said as I made a kissy face at him before directing my attention back to the tv.

"I'm not complaining about the dancing either!" he said and I just shook my head and ignored him. After a while we both manuevered ourselves so we were laying down, watching a different movie that had came on after the previous one ended. He still somewhat had his arm around me, and after a while his breathing steadied and I looked up to see him sleeping. I leaned up and kissed his cheek lightly.

"Thanks, gingy," I whispered before laying my head back down near his. I closed my eyes and decided to drift off once again, letting the sleep overtake me.

Notes

Very short update. I'll post the next chapter in about an hour or so. Maybe even another one after that tonight....depends on what you all think! :)
