Bring Back Glory To Your Name

I stumbled home at four in the morning, my stomach churning and the world spinning. A shirtless Vic met me at the door, one eye closed and with tousled hair. He frowned at Ginger, who simply giggled at him before passing out on the lawn. He helped me into the house, supporting my weight, and led me to the bathroom. After I had puked my guts up, I wobbled back out to the lounge room, smiling shakily at Vic who was arranging Ginger on the couch, a blanket thrown over her.

'Have something to eat.' Vic said before shuffling back to bed, yawning. I made myself a bowl of cereal and had a glass of water and some aspirin, before refilling the glass and shuffling off to bed, another two pills in my hand.

I put them on the bedside table next to me, taking off my shirt and crawling into bed next to Vic. He rearranged himself so that both arms were wound tightly around my torso and his head was buried in my shoulder blade. He let out a light snore a few seconds later, and I quickly joined him.

I turned around and saw myself, singing. It was an unfamiliar song, and my mind was puzzled. I walked around the stage and saw Vic off to the side. I saw myself turn around and wink at him before turning back to the crowd. He slipped into the shadows and I followed him, his sly actions catching my interest. There, against the wall, leaned an all too familiar figure; one with spiky hair and a mischievous grin.

'Jaime,' Vic said, not alarmed at all to see the tall Mexican hanging out backstage.

'Vic,' Jaime replied, reaching out to stroke his face.

I was woken up by someone touching my own face. My eyes flew open and I instantly groaned as the sunbeams hit my eyes.

'You've gotta get up, Kells.' Vic said, handing me a glass of water and some aspirin.

'Thanks,' I muttered, downing the water and little capsules that were designed to get rid of the killer hangover.

'What happened last night?' I couldn't remember a single thing. Vic shrugged.

'I don't know, wasn't there. You're new lead for Sleeping With Sirens though.' I rolled my eyes at my husband, stretching my arms behind my back.

'I remember that part.' Vic chuckled and leaned down to place a kiss on my nose.

'After you came home, Ginger passed out on the lawn. I helped you to the bathroom where you then proceeeded to throw up. I dragged Ginger to the couch and told you to eat something.' Vic said, straightening up and walking out of the room. I grudgingly followed him, accepting the sunglasses he passed me.

'Weren't you shirtless?' I asked, noticing the floral print shirt he had on.

'Of course you would remember me being shirtless first.' Vic muttered. 'I swear, sometimes you think more with your dick than your brain.' I laughed, before noticing Ginger on the couch, her eyes wide open.

'Um. Good morning, Kellin,' she said, before squinting. She groaned and fell face first into the pillows.

'Never drinking again?' I said quietly while Ginger started moaning into the couch.

'What was that?' Vic asked Ginger.

'I said I'm never drinking again.' Ginger repeated herself, sitting back up. Vic turned to me, his eyebrows raised. I shrugged. I knew my friends.

'There's aspirin and water next to you.' Vic said, putting the kettle on to boil. I grabbed myself a clean bowl and started pouring out cereal. It was sitting on the bench like it owned the place. So was the milk. I pulled a face and chucked it in the fridge, before grabbing the skim milk that Vic liked to have every now and then when he felt like being healthy. It never worked though, touring always got in the way and sometimes even Tony had to abandon his resolution not to eat meat.

Ginger gladly took her medication, before stumbling over to us.

'I better go, see you.' She said to me, sloppily kissing my cheek then Vic's. She grabbed her purse and then was off.

'So, new lead for Sleeping With Sirens,' I started, taking a big bite of my cereal before it went soggy and turned to mush. I hated mushy cereal. Vic put bread in the toaster, nodding.

'Are you proud of me or what?' I said, spreading my arms wide. Vic looked up, a single eyebrow raised.

'There's milk running down your chin.' He said, turning back to his toast which had popped. He spread some butter on it and came and joined me at the table. My face fell at his response, though I quickly wiped at my chin anyway.

'I'm guessing it's "or what" then.' I said, pouting and trying to sound completely miserable. Vic held his composure for a few more seconds before laughing.

'Of course I'm proud of you!' He said, smiling widely. 'Do you know when you start touring? Which songs off the past few albums you have to memorise?' Vic started shooting questions at me. I had no clue about any of them; I simply turned the conversation around with yet another shrug and a well worded question.

'What's up with Pierce the Veil's touring agenda? Weren't you having trouble with it.'

Vic seemed taken aback but he answered the question.

'Uh, yeah. They're talking about cancelling us for Warped Tour. It's no big deal,' Vic added as he saw my awe-struck face, 'it's only because they want to give some other, starting bands a chance.' Vic took a bite of his toast. 'I can see their point, too. Pierce has been around too long. Yeah, we've got our faithful fans but we aren't pulling in any new ones. Our next album is due in about a year, and our sound hasn't changed much. Nobody's going to be surprised with the new release.'

'Vic, are you saying what I think you're saying?'

'If what you think I'm saying is I'm getting to the point where I'm thinking about leaving the band, settling down and living a "normal" life, then yes, yes I am. I've been doing this for most of my life and even the label has noted that the fan base isn't getting any bigger, album sales aren't skyrocketing anymore. Pierce is ready to be hung on the wall of fame before we blow it and ruin our image.' Vic sighed and took another chunk out of his toast, more forcefully this time.

'I don't want to stop. I mean, you're going back to your career, and,' Vic was blubbering now, I could hear it in his voice. He was seeing his life flash in front of his eyes. Not his past or his present, but his future. And I know what he saw. It was dark, and blank. With nothing in front of him. He was trying to walk somewhere, anywhere, just so there was something solid to grab a hold of, to know that there was something left as his reality fell down. I know, because that happened to me once too. I found my rock, the object that held me to my sanity. It was him. And no it was time for Vic to realise I was his rock.

'Vic, Vic,' I said, reaching over the table and grabbing his shaking hand. 'Vic. Look at me.'

His brown eyes were moist and he was struggling to take a breath.

'I don't know what to do, Kells. My band is my life.' He took a shuddering breath and I stood up and pulled him against my chest.

'Shh, it'll be fine.'

Oh no, Vic told him the "fictional" story, but Kellin was already dying. He died as the words "what if I told you...' passed Vic's lips. He wasn't listening to Vic. He was thinking of Vic, thus the muttering under his breath. That was him saying Vic's name.

And Mike knew. About Josh.
