We'll Start A New Revolution

Keep It Real And You Stay True

I got a call from Justin, shortly after breakfast. I had had a hot shower and was walking around the house with my sunnies still placed over my eyes. Vic was in the music room, as always, strumming his guitar and humming along. I think he was recording himself, but I wasn't sure.

'What, Justin?' I whined, answering the phone.

'Hi Kellin,' He whined back at me, 'we're having a band meeting. Song selection, tour schedule, all that jazz. Meet you at my place, in say, fifteen?'

'Sure thing.' I replied, before realising that the beep that was in my ear was a sign that Justin had already hung up on me. I rolled my eyes before peeking into the music room to see that the camera was set up on record and Vic was sitting cross-legged in front of it, completely lost in thought. I walked over to him and kissed his cheek, momentarily breaking his concentration before he once again picked up the tune he had thought of.

'I've gotta go, band stuff.' I said, rubbing his shoulder.

'See you, Kells.' Vic murmured, changing the chords and coming up with something completely different. I chuckled, saying,

'Have fun.' Vic didn't respond; he was already lost in his thoughts.

'Okay, so, let me get this straight. For Warped, our setlist will be "Do It Now, Remember It Later", "With Ears To See And Eyes To Hear", "Low", "These Things I've Done", "Who Are You Now?", "If I'm James Dean, You're Audrey Hepburn" and we finish with "Congratulations"?' I asked. Warped was our first big tour and it started in a week. I stoked, but also a bit nervous. I had to learn the lyrics to three songs and revise the others.

'Yeah, and we can switch it up sometimes and play "The Best There Ever Was".' Jesse replied, nodding his head. Gabe tapped his sticks on his thigh, itching to start some actual playing.

Make that four songs.

'So, Kellin, ready to learn them?'

'I guess. I'm as ready as I'll ever be.' Jack turned to the CD player they had set up, finding the different tracks. Kyle's voice streamed through the speakers, singing the unfamiliar lyrics.

We listened to the songs a few times before Jack retrieved printed lyrics for me.

'Thanks,' I said, skimming over the words. Jack simply picked up his guitar and started tuning it. 'Which one are we starting with first?'

'Which one do you think would be the easiest to learn?'

'These Things I've Done. Didn't we do a demo of it? I kind of remember the lyrics.'

Four hours later and two songs had been memorised. I looked around at my bandmates and then back at the lyrics. My throat hurt, and the pages had been scribbled over by me, little notations showing which note to hit, how long to hold the note and even a few quick sketches in the margin when the band were doing their instrumentals.

'I'll take these home and learn them.' I said, taking a sip from the glass of water next to me. I waved the sheet of paper at the guys. We exchanged our goodbyes before I got back into the car and drove home.

'Hi Vic,' I said, entering the house and dropping my keys on the table, 'that smells good.'

'Hey Kells,' Vic said, turning around and blowing me a kiss, 'I hope it tastes good.'

'What is it?' I walked over to the kitchen and saw the mess that Vic had made. There were a few eggshells on the bench and a few vegetable skins.

'Fried rice, with ham, eggs, carrot, peas, corn and I think they're beans.' Vic said, poking at a chopped up cylindrical green vegetable with his wooden spoon. 'Can you please get out sweet soy sauce and the sweet chili?'

'I didn't know we had those sauces.' I said, looking in the cupboard.

'I bought some today.' The microwave beeped suddenly, and I turned around in surprise.

'That'll be the rice.' Vic said happily, retrieving the bowl. He started stabbing at the rice, trying to unstick them. He dumped the rice into the pan and put a lid over it.

'Now we just let it cook, I guess.' He said, fiddling with the temperature.

'How was practice?' I shrugged.

'It was okay, I guess,' I waved the sheets of paper at him, 'I have to memorise all this, though.' Vic laughed,

'Have fun.'

Vic, in usual Vic fashion, managed to burn the fried rice. It tasted quite nice, but there were crunchy bits that popped up every now and then that were a reminder that the cooking endeavour had not gone quite to plan. Vic had also put spring rolls in the oven to cook, so those were added on the menu for lunch.

'Do you know what's happening with Pierce?' I asked, shoving a forkful of fried rice into my mouth. I winced as I tasted too much of the sweet soy sauce, realising I had forgotten to mix it in with the other ingredients. As I mixed, Vic answered.

'Yeah, we're going to go on for Warped and finish the year as planned, but while we're on the road we have to write the new album. We're thinking of getting a whole lot of people to feature on the album, with only a few tracks of just us.'

'Is it going to be a concept album? That might just be the thing you need to give you an edge.' I said, picking up a spring roll and taking a bite. These weren't burnt, they had been cooked just right.

'Maybe,' Vic mumbled, 'but what would we focus on?'

I opened my mouth to answer, but Vic cut me off.

'Nevermind, I'll just figure it out later. At least we're going on Warped together, right?' He smiled lopsidedly at me. I nodded.

'Which stage?'

'Main.'

'Same.'

Ah yeah. I've got fics up and running on my mibba and wattpad. Not any PTV related though. Though I do have a Perrentes coming out in about a month or so. Maybe more. Keep a look out for December? I don't know yet. I'm participating in NaNoWriMo so I may not have time.

Oh no, Vic told him the "fictional" story, but Kellin was already dying. He died as the words "what if I told you...' passed Vic's lips. He wasn't listening to Vic. He was thinking of Vic, thus the muttering under his breath. That was him saying Vic's name.

And Mike knew. About Josh.
