Pink Volcano

Jaime: hahaha, okay well, I’m just glad you’re alright. Is it okay if the guys and I come over today? We haven’t seen you in a while.
Maya: It kind of depends on how things are going here. I’m meeting up with my friend Naira today. You know the one I met online? I think I’ve told you about her before.
Jaime: Yes, you have. You have talked about her quite a lot actually. Are u sure it isn’t a hot date? She looked pretty hot on the pic ;)
Maya: hahaha no, we’re just friends! And even if I wanted to, she is actually straight, so yeah.

Maya’s POV
“Well, welcome to my house!” I said as I opened the front door for Naira. “This is where all the magic happens.”
I saw Naira take in my living room. For the little amount I got payed, I actually had a quite big house. It was actually too expensive for me and every month I struggled to pay the bills, but it was worth it.
It was a house with two floors and a garden. The first floor consisted of a living room, bathroom and kitchen. My living room was painted white and I put black furniture in it. On the walls were framed posters of great mucisians. My favorite was the one of Kurt Cobain that hung above my black leather couch.
Although the furniture was quite fixed, there was a lot of little things like plants, books and CD’s scattered across the windowsill, the side table and just everywhere I could place it. That kind of summarized the interior of the whole house: fixed but messy.
“It’s great, Maya!” She said smiling at me. “It’s quite big!”
I pointed to the roof. “That’s because the roof is quite high. It gives you the feeling that it’s bigger than it actually is. I’m quite happy with it, but it’s your house now too!” I said grinning.
It felt so unreal she was here. For years we had known each other, only seeing each other through pixelated screens and now we were actually in each other’s presence.
And nothing felt forced or awkward. It felt like it was supposed to be this way. That wasn’t really a weird thing. I was pretty sure Naira was the person that knew the most about me. I wasn’t really an open person, I avoided every possible situation in which I had to tell something personal, but I had known her for so long, not telling her anything was unavoidable. Besides, I kind of trusted her. In my own fucked up way I guess.
“C’mon, I’m gonna show you your room.” I said and I gestured her to follow me. I walked up the squeaky stairs and waited at the top of the stairs for her.
The second floor of my house consisted of a second bathroom and two bedrooms. One of them was my room and the second one was the guest room. I had mostly used it for if my parents or my brother had spent the night here.
I headed for the guestroom and again opened the door for her like a gentleman. “Ladies first” I said in a fake British accent.
She giggled and rolled her eyes. “You mean to say you’re not a lady?” She asked teasingly.
I closed the door behind us. “Is that even a question? I haven’t washed my hair for weeks until today, I frequently drink beer and I’m covered in tattoos.” I said.
She laughed while looking around. “Well, I feel honored that you actually washed your hair for me. You shouldn’t have.” She said while putting her hand on her heart. “But it’s great, Maya. Thanks for letting me stay here.”
The room was also painted white and there was a small bed and a black closet for her clothes in the room. It was really nothing special, but it was all I had. “It’s okay.” I said and walked towards the bed. “It looks like it’s unstable, but it actually is surprisingly comfortable. We could maybe paint it, so that it won’t look so old.” I pointed to the bars of the bed. “And you can put up posters or something. I don’t really mind, just make it more you, if you like.” I rambled a little.
Naira chuckled. “It’s okay, Maya. Really, it will do. It isn’t like I’m going to live here forever.” She said.
I faked a hurt expression. “I honestly don’t get why you wouldn’t want to spend the rest of your life in this amazing room.” I said sarcastic.
The thing about Naira was, though, that she often didn’t get my sarcasm, so she just ended up responding completely normal to the situation. This was one of these times. “Well, I came here for a job opportunity and after I have worked for a bit, I will most likely go search for my own house.” She said as she put her suitcase in the corner of the room.
I rolled my eyes and responded by just pushing her on the bed. She didn’t expect it, so she just lay there with a shocked look, which was hilarious so I started laughing at her.
Not a smart move, because she grabbed my wrists and pulled me onto the bed. I fell on the pillow with my head down and let out a weird sound when I hit it. Then it was Naira’s turn to laugh at me.
That gave me time though to grab the pillow from the head of the bed and throw it against her face. She threw it back at me and we actually ended up having a pillow fight with that one pillow. It probably looked like we were five year olds, but we didn’t care. We were just laughing our asses of.
That was probably one of the best things about Naira: she didn’t take herself too seriously. In fact she didn’t take herself seriously at all.
After a few minutes of feathers flying through the room, we fell on the bed, completely out of breath. We looked at each other and just laughed at each other’s faces. You know those moments in which you have laughed so much, that you’re eventually just laughing about nothing? Well this was one of those moments.
When we were done laughing I turned my face to her. “So what about we get that drink I was talking about earlier? I know this really cool bar a few blocks away. I actually hooked up with the bartender once, so I always get free drinks there.” I said raising my head a little.
She rolled her eyes. “Free drinks, huh? Were you that good?” She said teasingly.
“Yeah, I’m a sex machine. Wanna get a taste of this?” I asked gesturing to myself. Of course I was joking. Yes, I was also attracted to girls, but I really just saw Naira as a friend. Honestly it would be like hooking up with my sister.
She pushed my face away, resulting into me falling back on the pillow. “No, thank you. I’ll pass.” She said. “But let’s go to that bar, it sounds fun! To be honest after spending the day in an airplane, I could actually use a drink. Or ten.” She said and she seemed to drift off in her memory of her day on the airport.
I sat up straight. “Okay, but you’re not going like this.” I said gesturing to her outfit. She looked down at her clothes too. She was wearing a blue over-sized sweater and grey sweatpants. I would’ve worn them too if I was about to spent a few hours on a plain, but she couldn’t go out like that.
She looked up pouting. “I honestly don’t have any party clothes with me. I’ve only some basics in my suitcase. The rest are all in my boxes and they’re getting send here right now.” She said.
I put on my thinking face. “You can borrow some things from me. I mean you’re bit smaller than me, but I’m sure we will find something that fits.” I said letting my eyes glide over her small body. She actually had a great body. God, I wish I had a body like that.
“I’d like to borrow something from you, if you don’t mind.” She said and I nodded smiling at her.
I stood up and she followed me to my room. It was a total chaos to be honest. I never minded the mess until people came over. Maybe it was because my mom always used to tell me that I had to clean up my room before people came to visit. “Sorry for the mess.” I said and I threw a rotten banana peel in the trashcan beside my desk.
She chuckled. “I honestly don’t mind. You should’ve seen my room back home.” She said.
“It always looked pretty neat to me on skype.”
“Yeah that was because I pushed all the crap out of view before I turned on the webcam.”
I laughed and walked over to my closet, opening the big doors. “Well, go ahead and pick something.” I said leaning against the closet. “Be careful with it though. This thing holds memories. I’ve been trapped in it for so long.” I traced the black wood of my closet.
She rolled her eyes at my gay pun and started to look through the shelves of clothing. Eventually she pulled out a black, knitted sweater. “This looks nice.” She said and she traced the fabric.
“Yeah it does. If we would’ve gone to the library. Now put that back and pick something sexy.” I demanded.
“Yes ma’am.” She said and she threw the sweater back in the closet. As she was searching for another outfit, I put my IPod on shuffle. The song ‘untouched’ by The Veronica’s came on. I knew it was bad, but I actually knew every single word to the song.
“What about this? This is so cute!” She said as she took out the black crop top I wanted to put on this morning. It would look so nice on her though. Better than it would look on me.
“Yeah, it’s cute! It’s new.” I said sounding upbeat, like it didn’t upset me at all.
“Oh, if you haven’t worn it yet, I can put it back.” She said and she held the shirt to her chest.
“No, it’s okay!” I said and I waved it away. “I’ve worn it loads of times already.” Lie. I was actually pretty good at lying. Probably because I had learned while I studied Psychology how I could recognize lies. I just didn’t do these things and here you go, I could get out of every situation without flinching.
“Okay. Thank you so much.” She said enthusiastically and she ran to me and hugged me quick.
I chuckled and hugged her back.
She finally decided on the crop top, combined with a high-waist floral shorts and my favorite high-heeled boots with studs on them. I only trusted her with them and made even her promise me she wouldn’t spill anything on them. She clipped an orange butterfly clip in her long, white hair and she was ready to go.
We then hit the street and started walking to the bar. As Naira was walking next to me, I noticed that she was about the same height as me when she was wearing my heels. It made me think that Vic would be the same height as me if he wore my heels, I think Naira and Vic were about the same height. I chuckled slightly of the thought of Vic in my heels.
We got to the bar around eleven in the evening and it was already packed with people. We walked into a few people I knew and I hugged a few of them and asked them how they were. I practically knew everyone here, I came here a lot, mostly because of the little rock bands that always played here and I’ve always been the kind of person that talked to practically everyone.
I felt like Naira was a little uncomfortable with all the new people though and I took her wrist and dragged her to the bar. I knew she was a lot less comfortable talking with new people than I was and figured she would most likely have the most fun if it was just us.
I sat down on the bar stool and leaned with my elbows on the bar. Naira sat down beside me and she played with her wavy hair.
The bartender saw me and walked over to me with a grin on his face. “The usual I suppose?” He asked and I suddenly remembered why I had slept with him. He had dark brown eyes, tanned skin and short black hair. He wore a tight black shirt that showed off his muscles.
“You got it, Ben.” I said shooting finger guns at him. “And the same for my friend over here.”
Ben nodded and walked over to the other end of the bar to get the ingredients.
I turned to Naira. “Sorry I didn’t ask you what you wanted to drink, but you really need to taste this cocktail. It’s called a pink volcano and Ben has invented it, it’s possibly the best thing you’ll ever taste in your life.”
She laughed. “It’s okay. I’m curious now! And he is hot by the way.” She said and she whispered the last part pointing her head at Ben.
I chuckled. “I actually have good taste, girl.” I said. “I don’t even get why you doubted that, because we even met over our similar taste of men.”
A smile crept on her face thinking about the memory. “Yeah, I guess we still kind of have the same taste in men.” She said laughing.
And then the drinks arrived. I thanked Ben and then took a sip of my pink cocktail. It was a perfect combination of sweet and fresh. It also had a very high alcohol percentage, so I immediately felt my head get a little dizzy. A good kind of dizzy though.
Naira took up her glass and carefully took a sip. I smiled while I saw a surprised look creep on her face. “Holy shit! This is good!” She said and I giggled at her.
The rest of the night we just talked to each other and sang along to the songs that were played. It was an amazing night and it was partly because we drunk a few too much many of those delicious cocktails. The more we drank, the more we laughed and the louder we got. Some people were staring at us while we were laughing like two dying wales, but we didn’t care because this was our first day together and we only cared about each other.
It was a night to remember, mainly because it was the first out of many more.

Well, for me, things at school are only getting started. The perks of only having a year left... Writing is the perfect way to take a break, though.
