Fucking Planes

Naira: OMG I’m here! Can you see me?
Maya: I can see you *creeper face*

Naira’s POV

Fucking planes. Everything is cramped and you basically have no personal space. And then there’s also that stupid asshole who takes the aisle seat so he can fall asleep just so I can’t go to the bathroom when I needed to. UGH! Just, no. My bladder was literally on the point of exploding! If I didn’t get out of the plane right now, I would be peeing my pants. These stupid lines that formed when everybody stood up but couldn’t actually get out of the plane yet were so annoying. If it weren’t for them, I would just have easily walked to the bathroom at the rear end of the plane. But noooooo. People had to fucking be impatient and stand literally not even an inch away from each other.

As soon as the line of people started moving, I got so excited. Not only was I going to be able to go to the bathroom, but I was going to meet my best friend! I finally got off the plane, having been pushed and shoved only ten times, and ran as fast as I could. Knowing airports, the first three bathroom were going to be crowded with other people who were on the same plane. So, I rushed to the fourth and managed to get in a stall right away. Hahaha, Naira: 1, airport: 0. To say it was relieving to be able to go to the bathroom, was an understatement. I had literally been holding it in for over three hours. It was a whole new record for me. But it certainly wasn’t the highlight.

I stood at the baggage belt, waiting for the stupid luggage to finally show up. You know what they say, the bigger the airport, the longer it takes for them to get your baggage to show up… No? I’m the only one who says that? Well, next time you fly, pay attention to it. Like seriously, big airports can take an hour before they actually give a fuck. Small airports just take it off the plane and put it on the belt straight away. It was always the perk of coming home. But now this was my home, and I could only imagine how annoying it would be to stand here after a super long flight, waiting for all the baggage you had. You know, for example that one band that Maya couldn’t shut up about. Something about Piercing The Veils? Their music was ok, I got why she liked it, however it was a bit too much for me, but I was still keeping to my promise. If she got me to meet those hot guys, I would listen to all their music and actually force myself to like it. It had worked for other music she had shown me, so why not for them as well? And I actually made good chance of meeting them, since she actually manage to become friends with them somehow.

Oh my god, my mind was literally all over the place. I was just so excited! Just casually internally screaming here, no biggie. I got my boring-ass black suitcase, which looked like everybody else’s except for the name tag with a humongous smiley that Maya had once sent to me as a gift, and rushed towards the customs. Of course I slowed down when I went through customs, I wasn’t some crazy person or drug dealer. And then there I was, in front of the large automatic sliding doors. I took one more step forward and the door opened for me, allowing me to step into my new life.

There were people everywhere: families with small kids, partners waiting for their loved ones, old people, and just random creepy people that liked to see strangers walk into their beautiful state. But there was only one person here that I was looking for, and this specific person was called Maya.

I looked around the place trying to find her, but I couldn’t. Was I really that bad at recognizing her? Or maybe she had forgotten me!? Oh god, no, she wouldn’t do that right? She would just leave me hanging and let me get lost in this big city. I couldn’t do that. Maybe I was legally an adult, but I really shouldn’t have been. I was one of the least adulty people. Or as Ryan Reynolds said in that one deadpool interview, “I am not an adult, don’t mistake me for an adult, I’ll never become one either.” It was just physically and mentally impossible… maybe that was one of the reasons why I worked so well with young kids…

But, talking about Ryan Reynolds, I totally scanned over somebody wearing a mask of his face with the eyes and mouth cut out. Gosh, it was ‘so realistic’, it looked just like the real person! Of course I knew exactly who it was. How could I mistake that! And if it wasn’t her, well then what I did next was really, and I mean really awkward.

I ran up to Maya and dropped my bags to hug her. She embraced me back and I felt like I was finally complete. We didn’t say a word, but I we knew exactly what the other person was thinking. I didn’t bother holding back the happy tears that were streaming down my cheeks. This was the moment I had been waiting seven years of my life for. Ever since we started talking I knew we weren’t ever going to be separable.

“I finally get to see you,” I finally let go off her and looked at her appearance - she had taken off the mask before she hugged me back. She looked exactly what I thought she looked like. The video chats and photos really weren’t deceiving. She was exactly who she said she was.

Maya reached out and dried the tears from my face, her own ones also slowly rolling down, “and you’re finally here!”

I didn’t know what else so say, so I threw myself at her again, only this time we fell over. She was lying on her back and I was on top of her, my face hiding against her shoulder. It must have looked so weird, but I didn’t give a fuck. This was my best friend, and I had never seen her, I deserved to hug her like this. Fuck what other people were thinking anyway.

“Umm, Naira, people are staring at us…” Maya trailed off and I could feel she was looking around.

“So, what?” I didn’t move, “I’m so happy to see you.”

“I’m happy to see you too, but can we please stand up?”

I noticed that Maya was feeling very uncomfortable with people looking at her, so I got up and grinned at her, giving a hand to help her up. She smiled just as brightly as I did, if not even brighter. This was my soulmate and I knew it.

“You look exactly like what I expected,” Maya told me with a chuckle.

I took hold of my bag again, suddenly realising that it had been very possible for somebody to steal them when I was having my moment with Maya, “well, that’s debatable.”

“I don’t think it is,” she shook her head at me, “now, come on. Let’s go. I want to show you your new home and then actually go do something fun. You know, a little drinking never hurt nobody.”

This time it was my turn to laugh, and I followed her out to her car. Maya’s driving skills were more than terrifying and I was very surprised when she told me that she had a clean record, never hit anybody, and actually got her driver's license in a legal way. It was pretty amazing. I was the most careful driver there was, and here I was, in some car with my best friend who was some crazy maniac driver.

When we ran out of things to say, I took some time to admire the tattoos she had on her body. They covered her whole entire arms, and I wondered if she had any more… well I didn’t wonder, I actually knew she had more, but I wondered what they looked like. I never got to see anything she had gotten on her stomach, ribs, or anywhere else. But it was so fascinating how the ink fit so well with her skin. I always wanted to get a tattoo, but it just didn’t work with my work, nor did I know what to get. Let’s just say I could change my mind pretty quickly, so I would love something one moment, thinking about for a couple of months, and then hate it, but love myself for not actually getting it permanently on my body.

I heard some weird buzzing noise coming from the glove compartment, so i opened it and found Maya’s phone with a notification on it. Naturally, I took it out and read it. I mean, I knew everything about Maya already, so why wouldn’t I read it? It wasn’t like she would care.

“Hey, Maya,” I caught her attention, “some guy named Jaime just texted you. Isn’t that one of the guys of that band?”

“What!” She nearly hit the breaks, but continued driving normally, “w-what does it say?”

“Umm,” I pressed the home button to turn on the screen once again, “‘Hey, Maya, are you ok? You never ignore my texts’.”

“Oh shit!” She exclaimed and hit her steering wheel, “I forgot to text him back! Shit!”

“Would you like me to send him something back?”

She nodded, so I swiped to the right to find it locked, “what’s your code?”

She gave me her code with no problem whatsoever, and I opened her messages to go to the conversation with Jaime. They seemed to text quite a lot, and it was pretty funny to see Maya either texted him back really quickly or actually took more than 5 minutes before sending something back. It was like some weird pattern. But then again, she was pretty weird… and I was too. I got to text this strange guys something along the lines of ‘sorry, didn’t have my phone on me. I’m doing something today, I’ll tell you guys later. And no, I do not have a hot date… hahahaha’.

Just moments after that Maya slowed down until her car came to a stop. In front of us was the house Maya lived in. Holy shit. This was my new life and I was going to start living it in no time.

Well, for me, things at school are only getting started. The perks of only having a year left... Writing is the perfect way to take a break, though.
