Chasing The Night

five.

He had missed her voice; in fact he missed her in general. More than he had realize until she was within touching distance of him. Pulling on a brave face, he knew he couldn’t just stare at her. Not if he planned on winning her back. He had to say something. “Hi, Kate.”

Kate was taken back by the fact that Tony had actually spoken to her, on top of that he actually smiled. She was expecting a far less welcome hello fro him, if she got that at all. With this, she felt comfortable enough to talk to him. Walking over to him, she closed the distance between them and pulled him into a hug.

“I missed you, Turtle.” She said, and she really had missed him. Before they had even dated he was such an amazing friend to Kate and she missed the stupid antics and just having him around in general.

“I missed you too.” She felt him whisper back to her. Pulling away from him, they both smiled. Kate kept her hand in his, feeling a lot less nervous now that he seemed okay with her being here. Although, to avoid unneeded drama, Kate had taken her wedding and engagement rings off for now. She just wanted things to be okay with Tony, before telling him.

“Let’s get a drink and we can catch up?” Kate asked, before he nodded. The pair grabbed a cup from the bench, and then poured themselves a drink. Blink 182 was blasting in the background courtesy of Jack, who was currently head banging in his underwear on the table. Tony and Kate made their way over to sit down. The fact Kate’s leg was right against Tony’s made him nervous. Never in his life had someone had this effect on him. It scared him to death at times.

The pair sat their for the rest of the night, completely ignoring the unruly and drunk people around them almost as if they were oblivious to the rest of the world. They caught up on what had happened in the last three years, Kate making sure to avoid the subject of dating and marriage. Even through that’s pretty much all that had happened in the past 3 years. The band had pretty much done nothing major, a few small town shows before Kate had met Jared but that was it. Wedding planning and married life had taken up the best part of two whole years, and upon hearing all that Tony and the Pierce The Veil boys had accomplished, this didn’t sit well with her. Had she really given up all of this to get married?

Kate shook her head out of those kind of thoughts. Jared was good to her and made her happy. This was what she wanted. Jared was what she wanted. Besides, they were married now and there was no going back on that promise. Even after the party had died down and everyone had headed back to their respective buses, these thoughts played on her mind. She tried pushing them aside as she hoped into her bunk. Kate put it down to the fact that she hadn’t left things on the best terms with her husband. She knew leaving after an argument wasn’t helping, so Kate was going to ring him tomorrow and apologize. She knew it was for the best. With that sorted, she closed her eyes and drifted off into a deep sleep.

Tony wished he could say the same. After Kate leaving him with a kiss on the cheek, his mind was filled with so many different thoughts that the prospect of sleep was not even an option. His mind went back through every step of their relationship as he lay back in his bunk.

”I’m just saying that if we’re serious, we can’t keep living like this Kate.” Tony sighed, trying to keep calm while Kate was pretty much freaking out about the situation. All day he had been trying to convince her to move in with him, but she was getting defensive. “I love you so much, and I would like to see us living together.”

“So would I, Tony.” Kate growled. The last thing she wanted to be doing 10 minutes before she had to play, was argue with Tony. “But that’s not possible right now. You have your band and I have mine and we are comfortable with where we are.”

“You’re comfortable with where we are more like it.” Tony scoffed. He was now growing frustrated with the situation. He couldn’t see how she was okay with being so far away from him.

“So what if I am?” Kate snapped. “Moving hundreds of miles is a big thing, Tony. And you’re not the one who would have to do it.”

“But I would if I had too!”

“But you don’t. You’re the one asking me to move in with you. You basically want a decision now and I haven’t even had the chance to speak to the boys about it.” Kate was panicking, there was no doubt about it. Every ounce of her just wanted to run and not face this. “Plus you’re just assuming that Jaxin and Natalie would be fully okay with me just showing up!”

“We’re on in 5.” Mitch walked up and tapped Kate on the shoulder. She nodded at him, before he left the pair to their business.

“Look, Turtle.” She sighed. “It’s just too much for right now.”

“Can we talk about it later?” He sighed. “Because I love you and I don’t want us to fight over this anymore.”

Kate simply nodded, knowing full well that she wasn’t going to talk to hi about it later. She was going to run.

Not understanding what had gone through Kate’s head when she had left that night, frustrated Tony. He knew that all he could do now was work on fixing things with her. If tonight was any indication, things were going to look up. Tony could hear Mike drunkenly mumbling something about how he was never drinking again, which caused him to laugh a little. Closing his eyes, Tony had high hopes for the rest of this tour.
