But Where's Your Heart?

I thanked the bus driver stepping off the bus. I walked over to the bench I sat on earlier.

I checked my phone, it's only 7:01 so Tony shouldn't be here for another ten minutes so I decided to let my mind wonder.

I haven't really gotten a chance to spend time with Tony,I mean yeah, we talk a lot at school and stuff but that doesn't really count. I kinda wanted to spend time just with him because he's a really cool and funny dude but he always gets talked over by louder, more confident people. Though, I like the way his voice sounds.

I jump and make a a cringy yelp sound when I feel two hands on my shoulders while yelling out "BOO!"

I immediately turn around and see Tony laughing at me.

"Don't do that you little shit!" I jump up and over the bench then push him.

He stumbled and backpedals, almost falling down.

"Don't be mean about it, it was just in the spirit of Halloween!" He says and starts to giggle again.

"Well I didn't like it!" I said in a kiddish voice while cruising my arms.

"Well, alright poop head, let's go"

He laughs and I flick his shoulder.

~at the costume store~

"Ok, so what should I be this year?"

"I don't know, what have you been before?" I said while looking through tracks and hangers.

He stopped looking at looked up at the ceiling while putting his hands on his hips.

"Let's see, I've been the Incredible Hulk, a Mexican Wrestler, Woody from Toy Story, Superman, Batman, Captain America and Scooby-Doo"

"Well that's an odd list" I chuckle, keeping my eyes on the costumes.

"What about you?"

"All the regular things, vampire, witch, princess anything along those lines really "

"What about this year?"

"Oh, I'm not going to celebrate this year"

"What?! No! This is your first holiday in California, you have to celebrate!"

"Well my mom thinks differently, she says 'no going out' and 'it's family time so we're going to watch movies together' like come on I'm not five"

"What about the party?"

"Which? I've heard of a few of them"

"Jaydon's party! The whole grade is invited, the guys and I went last year and it was fucking awesome!"

i stopped searching and squinted at him.

"Awesome how?"

"Really good music, a shit ton of food and games and *ahem* a lot of, uh, drinks "

I know he's still embarrassed from earlier today, about what Vic said but honestly I couldn't care less.

I nodded my head "I'm going"

"What?! Really?!"

I smiled wide at his reaction.

"Yes! Now let's go find me a costume!"

We decided to split up to find costumes but whpasseden an hour passed and Tony was stumped and all I could find was slutty outfits, I had an idea.

"Oh! Why don't we get matching costumes! " I said while looking at a fork and spoon costume.

"Oh God, now I'm really scared" I rolled my eyes and hit his shoulder, he chuckled.

"Ok, how about a cookie and glass of milk? "

I shook my head "nah"

"Oh! What about peanutbutter and jelly?"

I closed my eyes and giggled, "Tony, we're not six"

"It looks like a pretty good idea to me" he mutterd.

"Oh!I found a good one! What about The Joker and Harley Quinn! "

I stopped looking while tilting my head and putting my finger on my chin.

"You know what? Why not? But only if I get to be The Joker because you're my sidekick" I said with a wink.

"What? No! How the hell do you expect me to fit in that! It's so small!

"Great, now you know how I feel " I said with a sarcastic smile and patted his cheek. He began to blush and I turned away before the blush on my face was apparent.

I walked to the front of the store to get all the face paint we'll need for our makeup then paid half for the costumes with Tony.

When we exited the costume store it was 8:34. We're currently walking through the parking lot to the bus stop across the street.

"Hey, Andie, do you have anything to do tomorrow? He asked shyly.

" Um, nope, why?" I said tucking loose hair behind my ear.

"I wanted to know if you wanted to come over right now but I didn't want to keep you up if you were busy "

"Yeah, sure, let's go" I said smiling

It was quiet for a moment until I snatched Tony's bag and ran for the crosswalk causing him to laugh and yell.

I got to the crosswalk smiling uncontrollably, breathing quickly and pressing to walk button frantically. Then when the light went green I ran for the other side plopping down on the waiting bench with Tony right behind, "falling" on top for me, causing me to make an "ouf" sound.

By this point I was laughing nonstoptrying to push him off me but failing.

"Get off you fucker! You're going to ruin my costume! "

"No, our costumes because you decided to be an annoying four year old and take take my bag too"

"Oh, shut up and get off me you asshat"

He laughed once more and sat up. As if on queue, the bus came right after that so I took out my bus pass and got on. Tony and I got a seat at the very back of the bus and continued our conversation from there until I remembered something.

"Hey Tones, will your parents mind that I'm coming over?"

"No, don't worry about it, every week on Friday they stay at my cousin's house until Sunday night "

"Oh, ok" and we continued.

~later on~

We arrived at Tony's house. It was pretty nice, just the usual two-story with a garage.once he took off his shoes he went straight to the kitchen but I stayed behind admiring all the photos and decorations.

"Did you want anything? A drink? A snack? "

I take small steps down the same path he took to the kitchen.

"I could go for a drink, what do you have?"

"Well I have water of course, some lemonade, orange juice, milk and tea"

I was considering my options when he spoke again.

"I also have a few beers. I don't now about you but I think I might have one of those if you don't mind.."

I shook my head "as long as you give me one too"

He gave me a weird look but shook it off immediately then grabbed to two bottles to take up to his room. He closed the fridge and nodded towards the staircase where I followed behind him with our costume bags.

He managed to get his door open and we placed our tings on his bed.

"Well, this is my room" he said with his arms spread out, spinning in a circle. I laugh at his childless while grabbing a bottle and sitting on the floor, against the wall. He copied my actions and sat parallel to me, leaning on his bed frame.

"Well this should be fun" I said clinking bottles with him and drinking.

"I didn't know you drank" Tony said with slight suspicion in his voice. I shrugged putting my bottle down.

"It is what it is " I said while stretching my legs and laying one over the other.

" I didn't used to do it very often, only at like parties and stuff but in the past year, shit has happened "

"You wanna tell me?" He said Leaning forward a bit

"Well, if we're going to have matching Halloween costumes, I think it's time " he giggled.

God, his giggle.

"Well when I was five my parents got divorced and then a few years ago my mom remarried. My step dad was actually really cool though, we were actually really good friends and in all honesty, i liked him more than my real dad but then in like April last year.. " I began to tear up a bit.
But I sat up straight and put on my big girl pants.
"He was deported for a crime he didn't commit so now every few months my mom leaves to go visit him for months at a time. Then around the last week of school last year,I had to give this huge presentation in front of the whole school which I screwed up because I had an anxiety attack. That was really fucking embarrassing. " I laughed at myself a bit but Tony's expression stayed serious.
"and then there was this guy who I had really deep feelings for—his name was Andrew— but even though we were really good friends, he was way out of my league, like i don't even know how we became friends. Then, on the day that i screwed up the presentation, he told me that he loved me and of course I was happy, I was so happy. But then, I had to move here for a "fresh start" which caused me the biggest heartache I've ever had. But then a few days ago my best friend from Toronto told me that Andrew was going to come to visit me here in San Diego but I don't know wether or not to believe her and in all honesty this is all just to much I'm so tired and I don't want to do this anymore. There are too many problems and now with all this drama shit with Vic is driving me insane because Vic is a good guy and I don't want to lose his friendship out yours, Tony, but I don't know what to do because I'm scared to lose the both of you because the both of you mean so much to me even though I haven't known you guys for very long but I heard what Vic said after the argument, about having feelings for me and I don't know if I like him back or if I like someone else then I'm back to my problem with Andrew! "

By the time I've finished my life story, I've drank about 5 more beers and Tony is by my side and is now stroking my arm.

"Hey we'll fix this ok? I promise. Don't stress over it. Everything will works it's self out.

I look at him. I trace all the curves and contours of him face with my eyes.I rest my eyes on his shoulder.

We stay in silence, just enjoying each other's company until Tony breaks it.

"Hey it's getting late and—"

"Yeah I was actually about to ask you if I could stay" I suddenly felt really shy. "It's just that it's really dark and stuff
outside and I'm not that familiar with this area—"

"Of course you can, don't even stress about it".

He stood up and I thought I should I too.

he scratched the back of his head before speaking.

"So did you want to sleep in here or in the guest room or...?"

"No, no the guest room would be fine" he nodded and told me to follow him.

He opened the door right next to his room and let me in. I was about to walk in when I remembered I was still in my clothes.

"Oh,hey, do you think I could borrow something to wear to bed? "

"Oh yeah sure, one sec" he went back to his room and returned with a t shirt and a pair of basket ball shorts.

"These ok?"

"Yup, perfect" I took the clothes and did goodnight before closing the door.
