Chapter 18

I walked into school the next morning, with my head up, I was determined to get everyone to see Jack differently and I was determined to get Jack to see everyone else differently. Seeing as he was the man who was behind everything, everyone else would just follow.

I walked up to my locker to see Jack standing next to it. I smiled as I approached him. He smiled back before bringing me in for a hug.

‘Good morning.’ Jack said releasing me.

‘Good morning.’ I replied, laughing a little as I opened my locker.

‘So how about I walk you to your class this morning?’ He asked, I looked over my shoulder at him and frowned in curiosity.

‘Sure you can.’ I said looking into my locker again. I grabbed my books and closed my locker. I began walking towards the math room.

‘Here, let me take those from you.’ Jack said, grabbing my books from me.

‘Why are you being so nice to me Jack? You are always so mean to everyone else.’ I said, looking up to him as we walked.

‘Well, I like you. You are a pretty cool girl.’ Jack said, with a shy smile.

‘Okay, follow me.’ I said as I took a left instead of a right and walked towards the oval. I saw a shady spot under a large tree and sat myself down. Jack sat down next to me as we lent up against the tree.

‘Jack, what is up with you?’ I asked looking to him. My knees where sitting against my chest.

‘Well, what do you mean?’ He replied.

‘Like, why are you being so nice to me, after being such a mean person? What changed you?’ I asked.

‘We had a good conversation yesterday, I got to learn a lot about you, which I never do to those who I pick on. I saw how much pain you were going through because you broke up with Jaime and I understand that. I miss him too. He was my best friend. He has such a better live now that he is so much nicer and he met you. And I thought to myself last night, after we stopped texting that you could help me become a better person too.’ Jack admitted. I looked over to him and smiled.

‘I think you could be a good person to Jack. I see it in you. Then again, I see the good in everyone. I can’t change you, like I thought, but I can guide you to become a better person. You can start by apologizing to everyone you have made fun of and picked on. Beaten up and hurt. Aka, start with me. Something in your life must be troubling you, because someone is a bully, generally has been bullied once in their life time.’ I said.

‘Well, Stella. I am sorry for how I have treated you. You didn’t deserve anything that I had done to you. I shouldn’t have got Zack in on it. Then I guess Sarah and Zack wouldn’t have broken up. He was so heartbroken about it. I felt responsible. He slept with so many girls because of that. He looks at Sarah and sees how happy she is with Vic, and he just breaks. But I didn’t know he was going to do what he did to you. I mean, he really didn’t even punch you, he held his fist out and you walked into it. He got in so much trouble and when his parents found out, they moved him to a new school and yeah. They were not happy with him. I see how happy Jaime is now too and I just want to be that happy. Being in such a family with high expectations is so shit. If I didn’t get good grades while I was living at home, I would be beaten. My dad was a very rich man, expected everything to go his way. If I got a B in anything, I was sent to my room. If I got a C, I wasn’t allowed to eat for a day. If I got anything lower, well, I wouldn’t come to school the next day. My parents were divorced so I moved to my mothers, which brought me to San Diego. I guess the beating I got from my father, that’s how I thought people should have been treated. I didn’t understand, until you helped Jaime. Then, I knew, that there was good people in this world, and you were the person that I needed to help me.’ Jack said, making me cry a little.

‘I’m so sorry to hear about your father, Jack. He really shouldn’t have done that. You are a great guy and that’s all that matters now. You can change the way you are, it’s just a matter of time before you actually make that. You need to make others aware of your change. Start small Jack. If a kid drops his books, help them pick it up. You need to say sorry, which is the biggest thing. Thank you for apologizing to me. It means a lot to me.’ I said to Jack, looking at him, smiling while he shook his head.

‘Well, we probably should go to class now.’ Jack said as he got up first, helping me up before picking up my books and his.

‘Okay, well, we still have math, so let us head there.’ I said guiding the way.

Once we reached the door of the math room, from a comfortable silence, he opened the door for me and handed me my books. I walked in and apologized to the teacher as we both walked in. I took my seat next to Tony, who looked at me with a frown.

‘Where have you been?’ He questioned silently.

‘I was talking to Jack. He said to me that I was the only one who could help him change into a nicer person. I was happy to help. I don’t want him to be such a dick anymore either. And anyway, why do you care? Everyone else is ignoring me.’ I replied quietly.

‘Because, I also need your help. And I don’t hate you. What you said was bad yeah, but it was in the heat of the moment in my opinion. Sure, Jaime is hurt about it, but he still loves you and doesn’t shut up about you. He just wishes you will stay. We all do.’ Tony said.

‘Well, it’s not like I’m away from technology, you can all call me and text me when you need, like you do now, I am always willing to help.’ I said.

‘I know that Stel, but the others, I don’t think they care right now. But I do. You are one of my best friends.’ Tony said, as his hand rubbed my back.

‘Thanks Tony. Okay, what do you need to talk to me about?’ I asked.

‘Can we talk about it at break? It’ll be easier.’ He said as the teacher walked past. I nodded my head and finally got my books out, looking around the class room to see Jaime looking at me. I smiled to him before I looked forward and copied down the notes on the board.

Once Break came about, I was walking with Tony to my locker, so I could get some food out and then we were going to head to his locker, so he could do the same.

‘Okay, so what’s up Tony?’ I asked once we stopped at his locker.

‘Well, I have been having some problems with Brendon. He keeps telling me that he wants to move on in our relationship, meaning like sex and stuff and I don’t think I am ready for that, not just yet. I want to wait. He keeps pushing me to do things and I don’t know what to do. I think I’m just going to break up with him.’ Tony said as we began to walk to a small part on the grass near the oval.

‘Have you told him how you feel?’ I asked sitting down.

‘No, I am afraid too. I don’t want to do it.’ He answered as he sat down too.

‘Why don’t I come with you? I can have Brendon over after school and you guys can talk about it and if you can’t speak, I’ll jump in but other than that, it’s your voice which will count more for what you feel.’ I said. He nodded his head in agreement.

‘Thank you Stella. Maybe Jack is right, you are good at this stuff.’ Tony said, which lead to a chuckle.

‘Well, I think my words worked. Look.’ I said as I pointed across from us. Tony turned his head to see Jack helping a younger boy out who was getting picked on, he wasn’t yelling at the others to fuck off or anything. It looked like he was talking with them, making them apologize and realise what they had done.

‘Wow, you should do this professionally, make a living out of it Stel.’ Tony said.

‘I agree. I think she should. She really is an amazing person.’ Sarah’s voice said. I turned my head and looked up seeing Sarah and Vic standing behind me. They sat down and joined us in conversation. I looked around for Jaime but I couldn’t see him and it made me sad.

After school, I drove Tony and Brendon to mine, so that they could talk. The drive home was quiet. They didn’t talk to each other and I was trying to start a conversation up but they wouldn’t talk.

Once we arrived, we all hopped out the car, walking to the door and entering. They walked to the couches and sat down either end of it. I sighed and walked into the room and sat down in the middle of them, looking at them both.

‘You guys seriously need to talk about this. This is becoming awkward and it can affect your relationship for the long run. I don’t want this to ruin it.’ I said, which cause Tony to speak up first.

‘Brendon, I agree. I know I like you a lot, but I don’t think I am ready for sex, it’s all new to me. This is my first relationship and I just want to know that when we do it, you aren’t just going to fuck me and leave. I want to mean something.’ Tony said, making Brendon looked over to him and smiled softly at him.

‘I’m sorry Tony, I didn’t know you felt like that. I shouldn’t have been so pushy. I just thought we could experiment a little bit. You know what we do already, I love, I just thought that we could make things a little more interesting.’ Brendon admitted.

‘Well maybe we can try things a little more if you want. I can do that,’ Tony said, smiling towards him.

‘I’m glad you guys talked this out.’ I said. I put my hands on their knees and tapped them before standing up and walking to the kitchen, yelling ‘Pizza for dinner?’
