Don't ruin a perfect thing

"Hey CharChar!" Jaime yelled into the phone, "Hey Hime! How are you?" I asked, It was about 4 in the afternoon, it's the only time that I get to talk to these guys, "Good, we miss you!" He replied, "I miss you guys too!" I said back to him, "Anyways, Charlie I need to ask you something." He said, "Yea, what is it?" "Well, I like this girl, and I have for the longest time, and I don't know how to tell her." He said, for a second my heart stopped, I've like this kid since I was able to understand what liking someone was.
"Well, just be truthful and tell her how you feel, the worst that can happen is her not liking you back" I said finally, "Thanks Charlie, I'll call you back soon okay." He said to me we said bye, and hung up. With hopeful thoughts, I waited for him to call me back.
School seemed like it dragged by, it's been two weeks since he called, Vic and Mike called told me that he was dating some girl now and to chat, Tony calls once in awhile too. My heart just felt like it shattered, I was dumb thinking he liked me back.
"I don't know Kai, I really thought, but I doubt that he liked me back, I was dumb to think he did" I said into the phone, i was talking to my cousin Kai, "I know Char, but I wouldn't dwell on it anymore, how bout that guy that you said that's been talking to you." "Oh you mean Kellin? It's alright, he's nice and all but I don't know, we're just really good friends" "Hmm, well only way to find out Char" I know but I don't like him that way Kai, he's a real good friend reminds me of Vic" I laughed, "Okay then" He laughed "Well I got to go Kai, tell Auntie I said hello" "Okay I will tell pop I said hello as well yea? Talk to you tomorrow!" Kai hung up. I sighed, i missed home. Spring break started this weekend maybe I can talk mom and dad to let me go back and spend it with Kai.
"But dad, they'll be on break too! I miss them!" I said to them, of course their answer was no, "I know darling but, we just can't this time okay." He said to me, I left his study and went to the living room, there was a knock on the door, I got up and answered it, "Hey Charlie!" I looke at him and smiled, "JAIME!!!" I screamed and jumped into his arms, "What are you doing here Hime?" I asked haing him come inside the house, "Well, I wanted to suprise you for the weekend, I have to go back on sunday." He explained, "How did you know where I lived?" I asked "Kai" He said, "Dad!" I yelled, he came into the living room "Hey, Jaime!" He said "Mr. Rodriquez" Jaime said back, we all laughed and took Jaime to the guest bedroom, everything that I heard from Vic, and what my cousin said, I pushed it out of my head.
We didn't do much, Friday the day he showed up, we walked around the city a little bit and hung out, had dinner with my parents, and watched movies all night in my room, it was now Saturday, and he was leaving tomorrow, We were sitting outside on the roof by the guest room and we were watching the sun go down, "I can't beleive that you were here Himes" I said putting my head on his shoulder, "yea, me neither Char" He replied putting his head on mine, "Jaime, I need to tell you something." I said nervously looking back up at him "What is it Char?" He was facing me now, he smiled to where his dimples slightly showed, "I like you, like ever since I was able to like anything I guess" It more like I loved him if anything, "Oh, Charlie." He said, yup that tone I know it all to well, "Jeeze I'm stupid for thinking that you like me back, I had a litt-" He cut me off by kissing me, I suprised and kissed him back, in a way it was romatic cause of the sun sitting, after we broke apart he looked at me, "Charlie, I've like you, for the longest time I have, but.." He trailed off "But?" I don't think this would work." I looked at him "What do you mean?" My heart was breaking, "We're best friends, I don't want to ruin a perfect thing as this, I want to so much, but we just can't. I'm sorry" He said to me holding my hand, "Wow, after everything, I feel dumb for saying it to you" I pulled my hand away from his, "Charlie I'm sor-" "No don't Hime, just go back to San Diego, forget about me." I said cutting him off, getting up to go back inside, "Charlie come home with me, we all miss you, I miss you!" He pleaded, I stopped and looked at him, "Jaime, after this, I don't ever want to come back, I fell in love with you Jaime, I don't think I can ever forget about this." I turned around and left to my room, tears were coming down my face. I laid down on my bed and drifted off to a dreamless sleep.
The next day, Jaime was leaving I laid awake on my bed when my mom came in "Honey, we're taking Jaime to the airport, arn't you coming?" she asked, "No, we said out goodbyes last night mom" She looked at me "Okay sweetie, we'll be back soon make sure to clean the guest room up before we get home please." I nodded and she closed the door, I turned over and tears came down one by one, i confessed to him, and he didn't want to ruin out friendship, I sighed and got up to fix up the guest room again, a peice of paper sat on the desk, I went to pick it up, it was a not from Jaime to me.
"Charlie, I'm sorry for what I said, I do mean it and I do love you, and I always will, just don't ever forget about me. -Himes"
I cried, I went back to my room, "I'm never going back to San Diego" with that I drifted off back to sleep
