Lava Lamp Kisses and Burnt Skin

Rotten to the Core

“What’s so bad about that? It’s not like your mom is going to freak out.” Vic said. My breathe was becoming short, and I kept my eyes on Sam.
“Yeah, that’s the thing, she will.” Sam said. Mike gave a questioning look. “Our mom is very overprotective of her.” Sam said. Mike face turned into a ‘o’ shape.
“She thinks everything I do, isn’t good enough. What am I going to say Sam?” I asked. I knew she wouldn’t be okay with this. She’s never okay with anything I do.
“Taylor, you’re 21. You don’t have to please her every time.” Sam said.
“Yes I do. If I don’t, she’s going to give me more hell than she’s already giving me.” I said. Mike put his arm around me and gave me a sincere look.
“We’ll all go. We’ll convince your mom that we are not hoodlums and we will not hurt you or let anyone else do such a heinous crime!” I smiled.
“You guys would do that for me?” I asked.
“You’re like a sister to us now!” Casper said. I felt Mike’s arm tense up.
“Let’s go get this thing over with. Syfy is having a Star Wars marathon and I don’t want to miss it!” I’m guessing Tony said. We all laughed. They got everything put away and I tried to prepare myself for what was about to be a nasty storm called ‘Mother.’
“I don’t think this is a good idea.” I said to Sam. He was helping Mike pick up the trash we somehow accumulated in the 2 hour practice they had.
“Taylor, you let her stop you from getting the tattoo you wanted when you turned 18, and you had the cash. You need to take some initiative in your life now.” Sam said, looking at me. I sighed when Mike stopped what he was doing and looked at us.
“What do you mean?” He asked. I looked at Sam with a pleading gaze and headed upstairs. I couldn’t believe this. I’m about to ask my dictator of a mother if I could go on tour with my brother and some guys I just met. No way this was going to work.

(Sam’s POV)

“What’s wrong with you mom?” I heard Mike asked as I watched Taylor leave up the stairs. I turned and looked at him. “Hey you know, I support you guys no matter what. So what’s up?”
“Look, ever since our dad died, mom’s been freaking out non stop. With me, not so much. I don’t let it get to me like Taylor does. But for some reason only God knows, Taylor is trying to do everything by the book. Which in this case, is the book Mom wrote and is throwing at Taylor. My mom won’t let up on her. So this whole ‘meeting?’ Is going to be bad.” I said. I heard Mike take in a deep breath and looked at me.
“Hey man, I’m here for ya’ll. I know I just met her like two hours ago, but you’re my bro and she’s your sis, so I’ll do anything for ya’ll.” He smiled. I gave a smile back and headed upstairs. Taylor was already out the door and in the car.
“Just promise me something?” I asked. Mike looked at me.
“Anything.” He replied.
“If it gets physical, take Taylor, and run.”

(At the house)
“Mom’s here. Okay, so we’ll just go in. I’ll do the talking. It’s gonna be okay. Taylor? You just sit there okay?” I said.
“Why can’t I defend myself?” She asked.
“Because you always back down once mom starts showing dominance. I’ll do the talking, and she’ll listen. Hopefully.” I said underneath my breathe.
“Where do you want me?” Mike asked.
“You’ll be beside Taylor, and Vic will be beside me. That way, she can’t get to Taylor.” I said. We walked up the porch and opened the front door. We heard a clink and looked down.
“Great, mom’s drinking.” I said. I heard Taylor sigh, and I gave her an apologetic look.
“It’ll be okay. Remember, I’ll talk okay?” I said.
“Mom! Where are you?” I yelled. We heard a stumble and a figure appeared at the top of the stairs.
“Hi Mark, where’s mom?” I asked. Mark was the come and go boyfriend that mom had. He had been in and out of jail, and had an occurring alcohol problem.
“She’s getting dressed, who are these faggots? These your boy toys Sam?” He asked, clearly drunk.
“You know who they are Mark, where’s mom?” I asked getting closer to him.
“She’s upstairs getting dressed.” I smelt the alcohol on his breathe and I took a step back. God, I hated alcohol. “Why? You want to ask if your toys can stay the night? Cause I don’t approve of your choices in my house.”
“Yeah, okay. I’ll just go talk to mom now, thank you. Come on, guys.” I said to the people behind me. Mark let them by, but stopped Taylor.
“Taylor. You’re looking well this evening. Did you dye your hair?” He asked. I stopped and turned around, and got in between them.
“I think we’re done here.” I said looking at Mark. I grabbed Taylor’s hand and tried to pull her, but Mark grabbed ahold of her other arm and stopped me.
“No, I haven’t seen you guys in a while. Why don’t we catch up?” Mark said to Taylor.
“I don’t think so.” I said, removing his arm from Taylor. Mike grabbed Taylor and pulled her behind him.
“That’ll be enough. Where is my mom?” I said.
“I’m right here Sam. And look, you brought friends.” Mom said coming from her room. She stumbled about and walked down stairs.
“Yes mom, we have something to discuss. Alone.” I said, looking at Mark.
“Whatever you have to say, you can say in front of him.” Mom said. I sighed.
“Well, we thought it over, and with Taylor out of school for the summer, we want her to go on tour with us.” I said.
“No.” Mom said.
“Look, mom,” I started to say.
“She’s not going. End of story.” Mom said. I looked at Taylor. She gave me a look of defeat.
“No, I’m not going to sit here and let you control my life. I am going, mother. And you can’t stop me.” Taylor said. We all looked at her. “What?”
“No, you’re not going. You need to focus more on your grades than whatever it is that you’re planning on doing. I don’t want you pregnant and regretting everything that you’ve done.” She said.
“Mom, I’m not going to get pregnant. I’ve never done anything and you know it.” Taylor started yelling.
“I don’t appreciate that tone young lady. You’re not going and that’s final.” Mom yelled back. I took a step toward Mom and Mark stepped in.
“I think we’re done here. Taylor’s staying here and you faggots can go do whatever your people do.” Mark replied. He grabbed Taylor and pulled her close to her. Mom left and went back upstairs.
“Get off of her.” I said trying to get him off of her. I pried his hand off of her arm and threw her to Mike. Mark swung at me and I ducked. I hit him in the face, and he fell. Hard. I turned to Mike.
“Run.”

I'm really happy she's out of there

Wow okay wrong again, I hate her and her disgusting asshole boyfriend even more. I don't care what kind of emotional distress you're going through, allowing your child to be abused and keep her abuser in her life is sick. You're not a mom, at. All. I kinda felt for her because she was vulnerable and had this boyfriend forcing her to sleep with him and his friends in exchange for stability. But I no longer have sympathy, that's your daughter, she should be a priority not something you offer up to keep that prick around.
Also she's 21, a legal adult. Ik they have a hold on her because of how controlling they are, but if she chooses to leave theres nothing they can legally do.
And mike is adorable in this chapter btw

I think that'll actually be pretty cool. I think both character's perspectives are pretty important to the storyline and future development

I think what I'm going to do is have it both from Sam's and Taylor's POV where it shows how Taylor is overcoming all of this and show how Sam is helping her. It may not be as much of a love story as I had hoped, but it'll have its perks.

Oh wow and I thought I didn't like their mom before. She's so overbearing and co dependent. Taylor's 21, but she still treats her like a child and restricts her from making any decisions on her own. That's so freaking ridiculous. And that boyfriend of hers, mark, he's a complete creep. I can just picture the way he was looking at Taylor and the way he kept grabbing at her. Are you kidding me prick?! and don't even get me started on his homophobia. I'm so happy he knocked the jerk out. I was confused at first when Sam warned mike about running, but now it makes sense. She needs to get away and honestly get away from her mom and her toxicity for a good while. She has to learn to stand on her own.
