You'd Better Hide the Bullets

Tryin' to Get a Hold on this

"Ali told me that you are ignoring her." Kiera told me, sitting up straight. I looked over at her from my window ledge.

"Well she is correct." I replied, fed up of this bullshit.

"Why can't you just fall in with her." Kiera threw herself back down onto my bed dramatically.

"Well, I don't feel like she deserves forgiveness but the main reason is she doesn't even want it." I shrugged.

"I'm so fed up of this. All you ever do is ignore her and it makes everything so awkward and unfair for me." Kiera sounded so sad about it but I'm not going to just forgive my sister for what she did.

"I'm sorry kid, life sucks." I said looking nice out the window. My bedroom faced towards Vic and Mike's house across the street. I noticed their front door open and Vic walked out and sat on the porch. He looked kinda sad, good. My phone buzzed indicating a text. I looked at it and it was from Patrick.

-wanna go to the park with me and Pete? We are on our way to your house now.

"Who was that?" Kiera asked, her nosiness becoming annoying.

"It was Patrick. I'm going out now so leave." I told her as I jumped off the ledge.

"Ugh, you are never away from they guys." She groaned, getting off my bed and leaving the room.

"Yeah it's called having friends." I shouted after her as I put my vans on and left my room, walking down stairs and opening my front door. I almost crapped my pants when Pete and Patrick were standing behind the door ready to knock.

"Well hello there." Pete said with a shocked look on my face.

"Mom I'm going out for a bit." I shouted into the living room.

"Have fun." She said back.

I closed the door behind me. "Wanna get Mike?" I asked. They both shrugged and nodded.

I looked over to his house and noticed Vic was still sitting on the steps. "Well let's go." Patrick said with as little enthusiasm as possible.

We walked over and Vic looked up when he noticed us walk up his path. "What are you doing here?" He asked with confusion written all over his annoying face.

"Obviously not for you." I smiled fakely and walked passed him up to his door. I knocked and after about a minute Mike answered. "Hey wanna come out a walk to the park with us?" I asked him.

"Sure I'll get my shoes." He told me and then disappeared for a second. He reappeared and closed the door behind him.

We walked around Vic and left the garden. "Mike!" Vic called out after us. We all stopped and looked at him.

"What?" Mike asked. Vic got up and walked over to us.

"Can I come with you?" He asked sounding like a complete child. I rolled my eyes and looked away.

"Umm as long as you're not a jerk I guess so." Mike mumbled. Vic nodded and walked at the back of the group.

"So what did you guys think of the new walking dead episode?" Pete asked us. Patrick looked at me and grinned.

"We loved it, we literally sat in complete awe throughout the whole thing. Oh my God, I can't believe Carol was so badass and broke them out of Terminus. It was so good." Patrick gushed. I couldn't help but find it sweet that he was so enthusiastic. He has become like a brother to me, we hang out a lot but it's not weird. Like I know he doesn't find my attractive or want to go out with me. It's just totally platonic.

"Oh yeah you guys had a marathon last night right?" Mike asked me. I nodded and then looked in front of me.

"It was really fun though until someone ate all the popcorn." I said playfully nudging Patrick.

"It was so intense I couldn't stop." Patrick defended himself.

"Hey you guys wanna have a movie night at my house tomorrow night since it's Friday and we have nothing to do." I suggested. Everyone nodded obviously except Vic who was just trailing at the back. "Plus my parents are out of town, they're taking Kiera and Alison to some horse show thing in Texas. So I have the house to myself for the weekend if you guys wanna crash." I finished.

We finally got to the park and I made a run for the swings. I got one and Mike got the other. Patrick and Pete went for the round about and Vic just sat on top of the chute. "I find it totally weird that he asked to come with us." Mike blurted out. I looked at him as we passed each other midair.

"I was really shocked if I'm honest." I said. "He hates us, so why would he wanna hang out with us." I finished.

"I have no idea." Mike kicked higher. He went so high and then suddenly jumped off and done a forward roll onto the grass. "I'm going to the store over there for a drink, anyone want anything?" He asked.

"I'm gonna come and get some drinks too." Pete announced and jumped off the roundabout, clearly very dizzy. Patrick followed suit but I just stayed were I was.

I kicked higher and higher until I was so high my stomach would turn as I fell downwards. I heard Vic slide down the chute and noticed him take a seat in the swing next to me. I started slowing down until I was just sitting, slightly moving back and forth. The silence between us was almost deafening. "Why did you come out with us?" I asked, turning my attention to him.

"Mike barely talks to me anymore. I kinda miss my brother." He didn't look at me.

"Oh okay." I shrugged. I pulled my phone out and began looking through social media. Nothing interesting was happening, I did have a text from Kiera asking me to come home because she was bored. I ignored that.

"Do you think Mike will come back to my friends?" Vic asked suddenly. I look up and shrugged. "I hope he does." He sighed.

"I can't say for sure but maybe this should be your wake up call." I suggested.

"I'm too far in now, you know that." He looked up and I could see remorse in his eyes. I actually felt bad for him. The sun was just setting and the scene was so beautiful. Sadly I'm sharing it with someone who isn't so worthy.

"Well if that's how you feel then I guess you're never gonna get him back." I rolled my eyes at him.

The silence fell between us again. I watched the sun disappear and the moon appeared. "Are you nervous about the recital next week?" He asked. I looked at him and nodded.

"I don't do crowds." I said casually. He nodded in agreement.

"It sucks cause I don't wanna sing a dumb love song with someone who hates me and it's just really damn awkward to be honest with you." He said quietly. I watched him stare off into the distance and for the first time I actually didn't completely hate him.

"This time next week it'll be all over and we can go back to never speaking again." I said with a cheery sounding tone.

"Somehow that doesn't sound so appealing." He mumbled. I was about to quiz him on what he meant when the guys came back, Patrick threw a bottle of Mountain Dew at my feet.

"I wouldn't open it just yet." Patrick laughed at the fizzing liquid in a bottle at my feet.

"Thanks." I said dryly. Mike handed a bottle to Vic.

"So what movies we gonna watch tomorrow?" Pete asked sitting on the ground in front of the swings.

"I was thinking we could watch Step Brothers, White Chicks and Wayne's World." I suggested.

"Wayne's World is my favourite movie." Vic announced.

"Me too!" I said excitedly, forgetting who I was talking to. We both looked at each other and I felt my cheeks flush red.

"Those movies are fine." Patrick approved. We sat there chatting for another hour, Vic would occasionally join in but it was mostly just awkward. Pete and Patrick clearly don't like him either because they made no effort to join in conversations with him. I don't blame them either.

We all walked home, the cold air was beginning to become uncomfortable. Pete and Patrick left us a street earlier than our house because it was quicker to go that way. So it was just me, Mike and Vic. "Thank for letting me hang out tonight." Vic said awkwardly. Mike looked at me and then his brother.

"No problem. Thanks for not beating up my friends." Mike said sarcastically. Vic looked at him and sighed.

"Y'know sometimes I'm not an asshole." Vic said, voice covered in disappointment.

"Okay well try and keep it up yeah?" Mike sounded so angry at Vic. I can understand why because I don't like him either but still.

We reached our houses and parted ways. I walked into my house and sighed loudly when I closed the door. "What's up honey?" My father asked walking out into the hallway.

I looked at him and made a sad face. "People are damn confusing." I told him. He motioned for me to go over to him and he gave me a hug.

"You're right, but sometimes they're worth the time." He said as he kissed my head. "Go get some sleep. I wanna spend time tomorrow morning at breakfast since we won't see each other till Sunday night." He told me.

"Thanks for being the best dad." I mumbled. He let me go and I went up to bed, completely and utterly confused at Vic fucking Fuentes. Once again.
