You'd Better Hide the Bullets

The Lights are so Bright

I pulled back from Vic's embrace and looked out into the New York City skyline. "Welcome to New York, it's been waiting for you." I grinned, I might live in San Diego but I'm a New Yorker at heart.

"It's so much more beautiful now that you're here." He whispered, I felt him wrap his arms around my waist from behind, resting his chin on my shoulder. I took this moment in, wanting to remember it forever. I pulled my phone out of my pocket and began taking pictures of us. "No, I look a mess." He whined.

"Nope, you look amazing." I grinned at the screen on my phone, knowing he'd be looking at it. He let me take some pictures of us and then I put my phone away.

"We should go for a walk." He suggested. I turned around and nodded to him. He grabbed my hand and we left the building. Once we were out on the streets he looked around, kinda lost. It made me smile because he genuinely didn't know where to go.

"Let's get the subway to Central Park okay?" I suggested. Vic looked at me and nodded, thankful that I didn't make him feel awkward about not knowing where we were.

-

Watching Vic try to work out which subway station to get off at was quite amusing. He definitely is a small town guy. But we made it to Central Park in one piece. "I hate this place already." He whined as we entered the chilly park.

"Why? It's complicated at first but you get to know it after awhile." I told him. He grabbed my hand and a shot of adrenaline ran through my body. It was like a drug, but better.

"Scarlett?" Vic asked softly. I looked up at him and smiled. "How did you know where I am?" He had the most confused look on his face.

"A girl text me from your phone telling me some cryptic code and I had to work it out." I laughed remembering I actually watched Sleepless in Seattle.

"The text about Sleepless in Seattle was from Laura." He nodded. "It all makes sense now. I just thought I was drunk and text you that." He laughed, it was so nice to see him laughing.

"Yeah so I fucking watched it and man that movie is mushy and weird. I worked it out and I remembered my grandparents got me a ticket to New York to visit them so I cashed it in and well, here I am." I stopped and pointed around me. He stopped and smiled down at me.

"How dead am I gonna be when I go back?" Vic looked terrified.

"Only like very. Your mom is gonna kick your ass and so is basically everyone." I laughed, picturing everyone's reactions to Vic's return.

"I missed you." He mumbled, avoiding eye contact.

"I missed you too." I replied, hoping he'd look at me. "When the police came to my door and told us that you were missing I didn't know what to do." I sighed, running a hand through my hair.

He grabbed my hand and continued walking. "I'm sorry I scared you." He sighed. I squeezed his hand tightly to let him know everything was okay.

"I'm sorry you found me and Jaime." I said softly. I could feel him tense up from the mention of Jaime's name. "We didn't mean for it to happen and we both know it was stupid. He told me himself he doesn't wanna lose you and knows that I love you." I explained. Vic eased up and looked at me.

"I feel like I'm in a dream right now, did I drink too much alcohol last night?" He asked himself.

"This is no dream Vic, you're here with me and I hope you're not going anywhere because I've been waiting a long time to just be here with you." I told him. He stopped again and quickly kissed me on the lips.

"As long as I'm breathing, I will never leave your side." He said softly to me. I nodded and we began walking again.

"My grandma asked if me if you would like to stay at her penthouse for a few days before going back home?" I suggested. Vic smiled from ear to ear.

"Penthouse? How rich are you?" He laughed.

"You don't wanna know." I laughed as I shook my head.

"I'll need to get my car from Laura's apartment building." Vic sudden to remembered.

"We can go to my grandmas house and chill then go and get it tomorrow or something?" I suggested. "We can even take my grandparents driver and have a tour of the city." I nudged him, trying to make it sound more enticing.

"All I wanna see is right here beside me." He smirked at me.

"Well isn't that cute because when we get back to San Diego I'm pretty sure that you won't be seeing me for the rest of your life so soak it all in." I laughed. "Which reminds me." I pulled my phone out of my pocket and called Mike.

"Scarlett!? Tell me something good." Mike sounded so hopeful.

"I have with me a lost Fuentes." I smiled at Vic, whom was standing in front of me with a small smile on his face.

"SCARLETT YOU ARE THE BEST!" Mike screamed down the phone. Vic took my phone off me and began talking to Mike, then his mom I presume and then his father. After twenty minutes of Vic explaining himself and trying to reason with his parents he hung up the phone and handed me it back.

"I'm only a little bit dead." He rolled his eyes and wrapped his arm around my shoulder. "Let's go to your grandmas now." He whispered to me. I agreed and then headed towards the nearest exit onto park avenue to get a cab.

Vic watched in awe as I flagged one down. "What?" I asked, a blush creeping up onto my cheeks.

"You're just so New Yorkerish." He grinned at me and got into the cab along with me.
