You'd Better Hide the Bullets

My flight touched down in New York City around 9pm, I called my grandparents and told them about the sudden trip. They arranged for a car to pick me up from the airport. What can I say? I'm from a rich family.

"Scarlett, dear I'm so glad you're here." My grandma approached me as I walked into her penthouse that she shared with my grandfather on the upper east side of New York.

"Grandma, I'm so glad to be here." I replied, hugging her.

"I was shocked when you called earlier to say you were on your way. We were in San Diego a month ago." She said with a strange look on her face.

"Well, there's a reason behind my visit." I told her, she raised one of her eyebrows and nodded for me to continue. "I'm in love with a boy who ran away from home and everyone is worried about him. I came here to get him." I explained to her.

"You're in love." She beamed, it made me break out into a smile.

"Yes, I am." I said softly, trying to hide my blush. She grabbed my hand and pulled me into the living room.

"I remember when I met your grandfather. He was so handsome. I felt so lucky to have him fall in love with me." She gushed. My grandma didn't speak much about her younger years but when she did, it was so beautiful.

"Are you still as in love with him now as you were back then?" I asked her, curious. Her smile grew even bigger.

"Even more so." She grabbed my hand and squeezed it. "What you're doing is brave. It can go either way. I'm proud of you okay." She smiled so brightly.

"Thanks grandma. I love you." I grinned at her happily.

"I want you to get some sleep, you've got a big day tomorrow. When you find him I want you two to come back here and stay a few days. I want to meet him." She told me. It makes me so happy that my family are so amazing.

"Goodnight." I told her and went to my room in my grandparents house. I changed into my pjs and then went to bed, tomorrow is going to be a tough day.

I stood in front of the Empire State Building, fear and excitement running through my body. My eyes wandered up the building to the top. I didn't watch where I was going until I collided with someone. "Shit sorry." I mumbled and then looked to see who it was. My heart dropped.

"Scarlett, is that you?" Danny asked, confusion spreading across his face.

"Yeah, the one and only." I said casually.

"You're back in New York? Since when?" He was so excited.

"I got back yesterday." I said shoving my hands into my parka jacket pocket.

"Are you back for good?" He asked frantically. I shook my head no. "Look, I wanna apologise for what happened between me and Ali. I didn't realise how stupid it was until I lost you." He explained. "I've been trying to contact you for months but you changed your number and-" I cut him off.

"I blocked your number." I corrected him.

"Okay well you know what I mean. I've missed you so much. I really love you and you're the one for me Scarlett, please can we like go for coffee and chat about this?" He begged. I couldn't help but smile, laugh even.

I looked back up at the building and smiled. "Do you remember how much I love the Empire State Building?" I asked.

"We had our first date there." He said proudly.

"Yeah we did." I nodded. "But I grew up loving this building. I think it's so beautiful and it's got so many beautiful memories for me." I said happily, sighing.

"What's your point?" He asked raising an eyebrow.

"The guy I'm madly in love with is up there waiting for me, and I'm going to make him so happy and he I. Danny, you cheated on me and it was kinda horrible. Id never take you back. What I felt for you doesn't even touch the sides of what I feel for the man up there." I said softly. He just shook his head and walked away.

I walked out onto the observation deck and searched for Vic, but I couldn't find him. An hour passed and he still hasn't came. Maybe I was wrong? Maybe it was wishful thinking.

Another hour passed and I decided to call Mike. "Hey, have you found him yet?" Mike asked with excitement.

"No, I've been here for two hours and he hasn't arrived. Did I get it wrong?" I sighed loudly.

"Wait all day if you have to, you know he's worth it." Mike reassured me.

"I will Mikey." I smiled down the phone and then hung up.

"Are you Scarlett?" A female voice asked from behind me. I turned around and came face to face with a woman with longish blonde hair.

"Yeah?" I was confused as to how she knew my name.

"Oh my God, finally." She beamed from ear to ear.

"Who are you?" I asked.

"There's not much time. Vic Fuentes is going to walk through that door at any minute and he doesn't know you're here. I spoke to him at a bar and found him passed out in his car. I gave him somewhere to stay and helped him out. He told me about you and I decided to get you to come here." She said it all so quickly. "He's such a nice guy and I don't want him to ruin his life, I'm sorry this is crazy but please believe me." She said and then ran off.

The door opened and Vic walked out, a backwards cap on his head and a jacket. The cold New York air must have taken its toll on the San Diego local. He looked around the observation deck until his eyes met mine. The realisation that I was actually standing there in front of him, hit him like a ton of bricks and he basically ran over to me.

Not a word was said, he just put his hands on the back of my neck and pulled my lips to his. It was the most romantic thing I've ever experienced in my life. He kissed me like he's never kissed me before, pulling me closer with ever second that passed. He stopped kissing me and rested his forehead against mine. "I love you, so fucking much Scarlett." He mumbled, kissing my lips again.

"I love you too, Vic Fuentes." I mumbled against his lips.
