Vic’s P.O.V.

I slammed on the brakes and turned around. Everyone was jolted forwards, surprised. They were all okay but I cared more about the bomb Lily just dropped.
“Three?!” Lily looked just as shocked as us. Her hands were over her mouth and it looked like she was struggling to breathe.
“Oh My God.” I heard Mike say under his breath. This only made Lily bring her knees to her chest, hug them, and start crying.

Lily’s P.O.V.

Oh. My. God. Stupid me. I hate you. I hate you. I hate you. I thought as I bashed my head on my knees. I felt Mike’s hand on my back, rubbing circles, trying to calm me down. This only made me cry harder. I had lied to them and this is what I get. I avoided this once, why did I think that it wouldn’t come back to haunt me? It just came out. It wasn’t a lie. I am three, I was just waiting. Turns out my mouth wasn’t. I felt someone unbuckle me and I was lifted onto Mike’s lap.

Mike’s P.O.V.

I couldn’t stand to see her like this. Not more than thirty seconds ago she was the happiest she’d ever been. Now she wouldn’t stop crying. I tried to comfort her but that only made it worst. I motioned for Tony to unbuckle her. I grabbed her and lifted her onto my lap. I wrapped my arms around her and held her tight to my chest. She tried to push away but I held her tighter and put her head against my chest. She seemed to calm down, as if she knew she’d lose the fight. I held her around her waist and rubbed her arm. She was actually quite small. She fit in my lap perfectly. I could see how she was three, kinda. “Shh.” I whispered softly.
“Calm down. What’s the matter?”
“I don’t want to go back.” She said through sobs. I looked over at the guys. The only one who seemed to have caught that was Tony. He and I exchanged looks till we both agreed that Vic could live with our choice, even if he didn’t like it and Jaime would all for it.

Jaime’s P.O.V.

She’s three? She looked young, but three? That sounds like its pushing it, But in the library. The way she was sitting. I heard someone say something. That! Just like that. Where she pulls her knees to her chest. That’s what makes her look three. Mike picked her up and put her on his lap. That made her look three too. And her constant mood swings and love of touching things all made me believe her even more. Tony and Mike were staring at us, but I didn’t move. I was more interested in how she had kept this from us, how long that must feel to be in an adoption center for most of the life you remember, how she could look so mature, why, and if, even after this, if Vic would let us keep her.

Tony’s P.O.V.

Vic slammed on the brakes. Everyone looked at Lily. Vic was staring with his mouth open, repeating the word three, Jaime was looking at her quizzically as if she was a puzzle you could solve, and Mike just looked shocked. I looked at Vic.
“Oh My God.” His driving skills sucked. He could have gotten us killed. He should have at least pulled over. What if there were people behind us? Lily started crying. Nobody’s expression changed but Mike’s. He rubbed her back, which only made it worst. He looked at me and I unbuckled her. Why was everyone flipping out? She’s three, no big deal. Lily had sobbed out her request. Mike gave me a ‘what do we do’ look. I gave him a ‘what do you think’ look. He looked at Vic. I waved off the idea. Vic would get over it. I gave him a final ‘we promised her’ look and he gave in.
“You’re not going back Lily.” I said as I rubbed her head. She flipped over, hair glued to her face by tears.
“Promise?” she said weakly. I opened my arms so she would hug me. She plopped down on my chest, arms around my waist.
“Promise.”
