The Last Punch

“I guess Tony and the boys just got home.” I said as I read the text on my phone. “This ice cream is so good.” I mumbled as I put the phone down on the table and licked a mouthful of the ice cream. It was delightful cold and I could tell that Mel was enjoying it too.
As the minutes rolled by we continued to talk to Rottie and the new guy Maxx. We learned that he had just moved here from the states and he was studying to get a degree in theater arts.
“So where in the states?” Mel asked as she got up and threw away the cream soaked napkin. I laughed and put the rest of the cone into my mouth.
“Providence. Providence, Rhod Island. That’s where I got kinda into the arts. It’s really artsy. My mom and dad live there and I don’t know… They’ve just always pressured me into things. Like the art thing, they sent me here when I was 16 and I’ve been studying here ever since.” He explained as he eyed Mel. When Mel looked at him her eyes shot to the ground and she coughed.
“Wow, it must such to have a family that has it’s shit together, and has money.” Mel rolled her eyes and sat at the table.
“Cool it Mel.” Rottie said flashing a look at Mel. Mel got touchy around the topic of family. She’s never really had an amazing family. Maxx laughed and smiled.
“Nah, it’s okay Mel. I understand how it can be hard.” Maxx reassured her and smiled. Mel brushed it off and pulled out her phone.
“I think we better be going” Mel said laughing. I looked at her confused and she nodded. “We leave in a day or two and I want to spend time with Gaydrien and Shep. I miss them a lot.” I nodded as Mel explained herself.
“True, I mean it’s not like we can come here all the time.” I agreed and looked at Maxx and Rottie.
“I understand, tell Adrien we said hi and tell Shep he needs to get his ass over here and say hello!” Rottie exclaimed and Maxx gasped.
“Like, Adrien… from LA Adrien??” He asked curiously. I sighed and Mel put her hands over her eyes and laughed.
“How does everybody know him?!” We said simultaneously. Rottie laughed and pointed at Maxx.
“He likes the makeup and theater arts. Adrien does makeup.” Rottie explained.
“Who doesn’t know Adrien at this point in his career? He used to just do alternative makeup… but now he’s turning into the next best makeup artist! Tell him a fan said hello.” Maxx nodded and headed into the back. I always felt weird when I had to tell Adrien that a fan had said hello. But more and more people have been recognizing me. I don’t know if it’s because of PTV, Tony, Mike, or what but it’s weird. Not weird in the fact that I don’t like it but, it’s just an adjustment.
“Let’s hit it Mel.” I said as we grabbed our coats and headed for the door. I threw a peace sign to Rottie and nodded. We got out of the door and onto the streets. As we threw on our coats Mel snickered.
“So I was thinking.. I want to surprise Alex when we get back. I don’t know how.. but I want to.” Mel explained laughing.
“I don’t want any surprises of my own…” I said giggling as we walked down the slow, dull street.
