Worlds Over, Time to Die. Nothing Left but our Souls Inside.

May 10, 2015- Alysha Nett

So much has happened since the last time I wrote, but if anybody's reading this, they already know everything.

Mama has been falling apart since Papa....erm....well, you know. Mike and Vic both have been trying to stay strong for Mama, but I can tell it's taking a toll on them as well. Mike has been distant, and Danielle said Vic has been too, but I can understand why.....I mean, they lost their father. I could never even begin to fathom the pain they're going through.

As it goes with the other drama, things seem to be sorted out for the most part. It's still a bit awkward for Kellin and I, but we're still fairly close. He explained his perspective of what happened, I explained mine (well, except for the whole "sort of liking it" part) to each other, and we agreed just to forget it ever happened.

We moved on from the place Papa died, and finally found place to set up a new camp. We set up (after clearing out all zombies and animals-especially the dead ones) in a large, and fairly sturdy barn. I know; a barn in California? Yeah, there aren't too many. Inside there were stalls, which we cleaned out and used as different home-like rooms, as well as a loft, which was both a peaceful place to write (that's where I am now) and a good place to keep lookout without being outside, since there was a large ventilation window.

Last night was by far the most frightening we've had, though.

*Last night*

I climbed up into the loft while everyone but Kellin was asleep. I stopped at the top of the ladder and hesitated, remembering the last time he and I were alone together when everyone else was asleep. I shook my head. We both forgot about it, remember?
I climbed up onto the loft floor and over to the window, where Kellin was sitting, staring out into the night. Tonight was a bit chilly since there was a storm yesterday that blew in a bit of cool weather.

A short gust of wind sent a shiver through my body as I got closer to the window and the broken black-haired boy. He didn't seem to notice me, but I noticed the way his eyes shone in the moonlight. A saw a tear roll down his pale cheek.

"Thinking about them again?" I asked, and he jumped. He turned to me and nodded. I sighed and he wiped the tears from his face. I looked out the window as well, and out of the corner of my eye I saw him do the same.

"Do you think we'll even make it to Oregon? Do you think it will matter if we do?" he asked quietly, and I reached towards him and put my hand on his, causing him to look at me. "I know we'll make it there Kellin. And I just know that Kate and Cope are waiting for you and they'll be so happy to know you made it out okay," I reassured him. That wasn't even close to my real thoughts, but he needed to hear it. We couldn't have anyone lose hope. When your hope is gone so are you.

He gave a small smile and a huff of air. "I can only hope so..." he said softly. He looked away again. I watched him, and then I noticed him squinting at something and moving closer to the window. His eyes widened and he backed up, then looked at me. In a semi-panicked tone, he said, "We have to brace the door. Now."

I knew what that meant; there was a huge swarm coming our way. He and I both scrambled across the loft and down the ladder. He started gathering heavy things- wood, furniture, even hay bales and moved them in front of the large door. I heard thunder in the distance as I went around, waking everyone up.

Mike wouldn't wake up and I started to panic.....what if he'd died? Oh god...
I shook him harder and harder and he didn't budge. I rolled him over and he snored. My heart slowed down and I rolled my eyes. "Micheal Christopher! Get up! Help us!" I whisper-yelled as I heard another, louder clap of thunder roll through the sky. He opened one eye and grumbled. "Mike there's a ton heading this way, we need your help to brace the door. Everyone else is already awake and working on it," I said. He sat up and stretched his arms out and then got up and started up the ladder to retrieve hay bales from the loft.

Thunder rolled again, then there was loud banging. They were here. Mike threw one more bale down, then slid down the ladder to hold the door. I heard the rain start up and more thunder. The door shook, but we didn't let it budge and kept pushing hay and furniture up against it. The rain got louder and the banging did too. I heard a scream and looked behind me. It was Erin, and she pointed up at the loft, where i saw quite possibly the scariest thing I'd ever seen- a BALL of lightening flying down through the skylight and towards her. I ran and pushed her. The lightening struck the ground right where she was standing. I felt an intense stinging go up my leg and cried out, but then it went away.

I got off of Erin and she got up and tried to help me up, but I couldn't stand. Mike noticed this and came over to me, but I shooed him and Erin back to the door and tried to stand up again. I stood up, but I couldn't feel my leg. I hobbled over to the door and pushed against it with the others anyways. The thunder clapped somewhere else and I felt the ground start to shake.

"FUCK! ANOTHER EARTHQUAKE!" Tony yelled. We all got down as the ground shook more.

The banging stopped when the quake did. Everything was still and quiet for a few moments and we all looked at eachother. "Is it over?" Erin asked. "I....I think so...for now..." Jaime answered.

Kellin smiled and started to laugh, and I don't know why, but I did too. At first everyone looked at us like we were nuts, then slowly Vic started to laugh, then Mike, then Jess, Tony, Jaime....soon everyone was laughing, even Mama. Mike moved towards me and pulled me over, kissing my forehead. Jaime got up and went to look out the window and gasped loudly.

"Guys, you have to see this!" he exclaimed, turning towards us wide-eyed. Everyone flocked to the window except me. Mike helped me back up and over to the window and my eyes nearly popped out of my head at what I saw.....a huge sinkhole, and right on the other side of the door. It almost touched the door, but didn't. After everyone had seen, we all backed away from the window and looked at each other in shock.Tony ran across the "circle of friends" and hugged Erin tightly, then everyone joined until it was one giant group hug.

We survived.

OMG!!!! I'm so happy right now! Can this happen for real though?!
For some reason I fell like D.C has something to do with a quarantine. Like they get there but they find this wall of sorts and they're denied entry because they've been in the "infected" zone. It could be all of the zombie/disease books I've been reading, too. I read "The Girl with All of the Gifts" by M.R Carey before this story and just reread "Dreamcatcher" by Stephen King. Can't wait for more!
