A Friday Night Like This

Can You Hear The Silence? Can You See The Dark?

A/N

Okay. Second last chapter. Enjoy!

- - -

I watched Vic climb onto the tour bus, sunglasses covering his eyes. It was seven in the morning, early enough for the sun to be rising. He flinched at the brightness as he turned back to me, blowing a kiss in my direction. I mimicked his actions, a sad smile gracing my features.

He was wearing his blue button down again, this time changing from shorts to jeans. His Vans covered his feet and a beanie was jammed on his head. Casey, his drum tech, shouted at him to hurry up and get on board; they were meant to have left five minutes ago. I readjusted the sunnies on my face and waved them off. They were due to be back in two months. I sighed. Time to start the non stop Skyping, calling and texting. I wrapped my dressing gown around me more tightly and shuffled back inside. I made myself another cup of coffee to assist with getting rid of the insistent thumping in my head and swallowed a few Panadol.

'I swear, I'm going to kill Evie.' I muttered, leaning back on the lounge. As I did, the pillows next to me moved, revealing my secret hiding place. Five tickets were sealed in an envelop, bearing the band name Pierce the Veil. It was for their show in Los Angeles tonight. Hopefully Vic hadn't found them and he would be surprised when I turned up at the venue. I picked up the tickets and looked at them. Two months was a long time. But it was also my deadline. I wanted to have the wedding organised by then, so that we could spend the next two weeks Vic had off in a honeymoon phase. I was thinking of flying overseas or maybe taking a cruise, but that seemed too cliché. Plus, I didn't have a huge budget. While I had room to splurge on some things, I would have to keep a tight reign on others.

I sipped at my coffee, thoughts swirling in my head. I sighed and tapped the side of the mug, closing my eyes and tipping my head back to the ceiling. My phone started buzzing on the coffee table, interrupting peaceful silence that had surrounded me. A few seconds later and my ringtone cut through the air. I groaned and picked it up.

'Who's this?' I asked, answering the call.

'Hello to you too. It's Evie, by the way.' Evie's voice flew down the line, seemingly annoyed.

'Hi Evie.' I replied, tracing the rim of my drink. 'What do you want?'

'Just checking on your's and Vic's hangovers.' She replied. I could hear the smile in her tone.

'I'm fine, actually. Vic's suffering. He definitely got white girl wasted last night.' I said, laughing softly. 'How's your own?'

I heard Evie scoff, followed by a short laugh. 'Darling, I was shoving drinks down your throat, not mine. I was lucky if I had another glass of wine. What's your plan for the day?'

'Depends. Are you free to come over?'

'Depends. What would we be doing?'

'Wedding preparations.' I replied. I waited for her answer, but instead heard a consistent beep beep beep. I put my phone down, shaking my head, and had the rest of my coffee, getting up and putting the kettle back on. I made a tea, and got myself some toast. I slathered it with jam and heard a loud banging on the door. I rested my elbows on the blue kitchen counter and stuck my hip out to the side. Evie skidded into the kitchen a few seconds later, hair unbrushed and no bra on. I knew this because she was holding hers in her hand, her car keys in the other.

'Hi Kellin, excuse me for one moment.' She said, rushing into the spare room. She came out about a minute later, her bra no longer dangling from her fingertips.

'Morning Evie.' I greeted her, gesturing in front of me. 'Breakfast is served.' She came over to the kitchen bench and leaned over it, placing a kiss on my cheek. She grabbed a piece of toast and stuck it in her mouth, taking a generous mouthful. She chewed and swallowed.

'Thanks.' I smiled at her and continued to eat my toast. She finished hers quickly and took her tea over to the table.

'So, where do we start for the wedding?' She asked, sitting down, laying her forearms on the table and linking her fingers. She smiled cheekily up at me, batting her eyelids.

'I have no clue.' I answered sitting opposite her. 'That's why you're here.' She stood up and ran out the door, the door not having a chance to close properly before she was back in. In her arms was a scrapbook, a piece of paper tucked in the front labelled "Kellin's Wedding". I raised an eyebrow at her and she placed it on the table in front of me.

'Lucky I came prepared then, isn't it?' Evie sat down next to me and I started flicking through the scrapbook. Headings at the top of each page screamed at me.

Venue, date, guest list, invitations. I blinked. This was going to be hard work. I opened it back up to "Guest List".

'This should be the easiest.' I said, grabbing a pen from the fruit bowl in front of me. I wrote down a few names: Mike, Tony, Jaime, Vivian and Victor.

'What are you doing?' Evie interrupted me. I glanced at her.

'Writing down names...?' I asked, my voice lifting in pitch, giving it the form of a question.

'Last names too!' She exclaimed.

'Evie, I don't want many people at this. Last time it was huge, and Vic and I didn't really enjoy ourselves. Yes, we were surrounded by friends and family, but there was too many.' I explained.

'Then I have the perfect setting for this.' Evie said, her eyes sparkling. She ran out of the room, whipping her phone out of her pocket. She chatted away for a few minutes as I continued writing down names. Her voice stopped, then started up again. I rolled my eyes and glanced at the rest of the book. She was pretty organised, to be honest. Evie came back out and flipped through the book. She got to "Venue" and snatched the pen out of my hand. In her neat handwriting, I saw Vic's parent's address.

'Don't worry, Vivian's fine with it.' Evie said happily, flicking back to the guest list. 'Hey, why aren't I on here?' She asked. I tapped the space next to "Maid of Honour".

'Because I want your name to go there.' Evie threw her arms around me.

'Thank you!' She screamed, almost deafening me.

'Evie! Save the screaming for the concert, okay? And you're welcome.' I returned her enthusiastic hug. 'Do you think Ginger, Lucy and Roxanne would like to be flower girls?'

'Of course! They are female, aren't they?'

'So you're using stereotypes to support your arguments now? Smart, Evie. Very smart.' I said, sarcasm lacing my words.

Evie nodded, placing a hand on her chest. 'I try, Kellin, really, I do.' She sniffed, taking her hand off her chest to wipe away imaginary tears. We laughed and continued working, Evie pressing matters and getting me to think hard and long about my decisions.

Vic

I climbed on the bus and saw my three bandmates sitting in different areas of the bus. Casey was driving, as per usual, and Adam, our photographer for this tour, was sitting next to him, keeping him company. I saw Mike's long legs sticking out of his bunk, presumably getting it ready with pillows and blankets, Tony was seated next to the small kitchen, a bowl of cereal on the table in front of him. His head was angled up and a depressing breaking news headline was emblazoned across the small television set. I couldn't necessarily see Jaime, but I could hear him playing his acoustic guitar in the back.

'So, what's up guys?' I asked, trudging over to where Tony sat. He moved over a smidge so that we could both fit comfortably on the seat, and shoveled another spoonful of food into his mouth. Mike came out of his bunk long enough to give me an answer. It was in his usual smart-ass manner and Tony hid a smile afterwards.

'It seems to be the ceiling, dear brother. But in other terms, we're touring.' I rolled my eyes and grabbed a water, stepping over Mike's exposed legs and scrambling into my bunk. Mike helped, giving me a nudge with his feet. Unfortunately, I had pushed off the ground with too much force and, coupled with Mike's thoughtful gesture, smashed head-first into the bus' side. The dull thud vibrated through the bus, and I heard Jaime's laughter emanate from the back lounge.

'Not funny!' I yelled at him, rubbing my head. I heard the guitar stop and Jaime padded out to the bunks.

'It kinda is, Vic. I mean, it's not everyday someone hits their head climbing into a bunk.' He replied, sticking his head through the blue patterned curtains.

'It happens a lot more often than usual here.' I said, turning over in the cramped space and facing him. Jaime nodded thoughtfully, before retreating back to the lounge. I heard Mike shift in his sleeping quarters beneath me, and I poked my head over the side and into his bunk.

'How's your head?' He asked, not in the least bit concerned.

'How's your relationship?' I asked back, not bothering to answer his question. He shrugged.

Mike

The question seemed to bother me. I mean, Tony had gone off with Jaime when we had arranged plans to tell the world about us. Tony had said that "he wasn't ready to come out" and "he wasn't ready to commit to a relationship". It was all crap. He had come out with Jaime, and they had tried dating while we were off tour.

It seemed like a childish way of getting back at me for kissing Evie, even though it had meant absolutely nothing to me. Yes, I had arranged to go out with her and "pick up chicks", but had I actually been serious about it? No! I had done it to help boost her self confidence.

Now Tony had come to his senses with Jaime, he was ready to run back into my open arms. I couldn't let him do that. I sighed. The boy was ruining me. I looked back at Vic. He had read it all. In my eyes, my body language, my facial expression. He knew exactly what had run through my head.

'Give him a chance.' Was all Vic had to say before disappearing from view and heading to his own bunk. I sighed and crept out of my bunk. There was no use avoiding him. We were stuck together pretty much twenty-four seven for the next two months.

'Hey Tony.' I said haltingly, sitting across from him. He looked up in surprise and switched the television off.

'Mike, I'm so sorry. Don't say anything,' He said sharply, noticing my mouth begin to open. 'This was all me. I just... Needed to clear my head. It's all happening so fast, and the last thing I want to happen is for our relationship to go pear-shaped, not unlike Vic and Kellin's, because of Jaime.' He leaned over and gave me a kiss. I was still in shock though. He laughed. I relaxed and finally came to terms with what was happening.

'So, you're saying that you're comfortable with, say, going out on a date?' I said slyly, batting my lashes at him. He gave me a soft hit against the side of my head.

'Yes, numb skull. I am.'

'Well then, Tony, would you like to go out on a date with me?' He laughed and nodded, leaning in for another kiss. I responded eagerly, our lips creating a show-stopping fireworks display.

Vic

We pulled up to the venue a few hours later. A few kids were lingering outside the doors, laughing and talking. We posed for a few pictures and signed a few of our albums for them. Entering the venue, we started setting up and sound checking our instruments.

We were re-using an old theme for our shows on this tour. It was the ice-cream theme. Mike absolutely loved it, mainly because his drum covers were a mix of pastel colours. Tony, Jaime and I weren't that fussed about it.

- a few hours later -

I peeked at the crowd from the side stage, smiling happily to myself. Mike was already onstage, about to start our first song. He tapped out a rhythm, sending the crowd crazy. Tony, Jaime and I ran out onstage, Jaime and Tony immediately head-banging as they played their respective instruments.

I went up to the microphone, smiling widely. I looked down at my guitar, checking everything was right, and looked up again. In the corner of my eye, I saw someone I thought looked familiar. I blinked and missed my cue to start singing. Luckily the crowd had started and I hurridly stuck my hand out, indicating that they sing.

There they were again, laughing at me.

'I'm the killer who burned your home!' I sang loudly, trying to forget about them. The song was going great, the response was amazing, but halfway through the power cut. My voice rang through the dark space, Mike's drums echoing after it. The only light came from people's phones and cameras. There was a murmuring in the audience, and a high laugh rang out above it. I knew that laugh, and as soon as Casey came stumbling onto the stage with a torch, passing the light to me, I swept it over the crowd, soon identifying the source of the sound. I found my megaphone and shouted at everyone, trying to make sure they could hear me.

'Guys! Listen up! Can you hear me?' I shouted, the people at the back yelling loudly back at me.

'That's good, now...'

Kellin

And that was how I found myself on stage, firmly planted at the battery-operated keyboard that Casey had dug up.

'Ready?' Vic asked, smirking at me. He held his microphone, also battery-operated, and an acoustic guitar. Mike sat behind us on the drums, with instructions to "join in when he found the beat".

Vic had decided to play an acoustic show and had found me in the crowd. To say he was surprised was a lie; it had seemed perfectly natural for him to invite me on stage, even though I was supposed to be at home, possibly sleeping, or at least getting ready for bed. Lucy, Roxanne, Ginger and Evie had all pushed me forward to get onto the stage. I knew for a fact that Evie had brought out her camera and was now recording every second of this, while the others commentated.

I smirked back at him and played the first four bars, repeating it and Vic joined in, his soft voice echoing.

'I finally found him but I haven't got a piece of him yet,

I wanna tell you by the way I think I've ruined your body,

I had a dream last night we

All broke down.

Better think of something good to say,

So if you call me at all,

I won't tell you that you're ordinary,

I need somebody,

Somebody crazy enough to tell me,

I will love you till we are buried,

So can you feel my heart?' Mike had fun on the drums, tapping away at them.

We continued the rest of the now-acoustic set, playing "Yeah Boy and Doll Face", "Hold On Till May", "I'm Low On Gas And You Need A Jacket", "Caraphernelia" and even throwing in a few old Sleeping With Sirens songs. It finished with "Let Love Bleed Red".

'Thanks for helping out, Kells,' Vic said, embracing me while the crew helped out in taking apart the set.

'You're welcome. I've just gotta go now.' I jerked my thumb at where my four female companions were waiting for me. A thought occurred to me, and I voiced it, Vic turning back to hear it.

'How did you know I was in the crowd?'

'You have to give your address when buying tickets. The guys thought it was strange when tickets were sent to my place.'

Of course, you idiot! I mentally slapped myself upside the head.

'Bye, Vic.' I said, leaning in for one last kiss.

'Ready to go, girls?' I asked, slinging my arms around Ginger and Lucy.

Thanks. I won't upload it right now because I've been writing the second chapter for about a week now and it's nowhere near finished!

Haha, just kill all the characters! If you want to read a story in which some characters may die, may I suggest my other story, Kiss Me Through the Window and it's sequel The Taste Of Touching Glass? *shameless advertising*
That is so adorable! I love it! This story was great and I loved the plot progression, like it didn't move to fast or slow. I'm excited for the sequel <3
