A Friday Night Like This

Evie's POV

The bistro had been nice enough to accept my reservation for seven that night. It was one of my favourite places to go for girls night. It was fairly new, with a red, orange and yellow patterned floor and bizarre lights in the same colours. It had a bar, obviously, and a large dining area. There had been a space cleared at the front of the room which was the makeshift dance floor. There was live entertainment tonight; a very pretty girl was singing covers of different songs to the accompaniment of an acoustic guitar and basic drum beats.

I tapped my fingernails against the base of my wine glass, checking the time.

They were late. I shook my head, stifling a laugh. Trust Kellin to be late. They finally turned up, Kellin beaming with a ridiculous smile on his face. Vic was beside him, their arms linked, with an identical expression. Vic sat down opposite me, Kellin and I exchanging pecks on the cheek before he excused himself to buy drinks.

'So, spill, pretty boy.' I said, smiling at Vic. 'I know he proposed, so give me details!' Vic blushed and offered me his hand; on it was a sparkling ring, decorated with a modest diamond.

'It's gorgeous.' I breathed, taking his hand and slipping the ring off. I studied it from every angle, my mouth falling open when the light hit the inner band. Kellin had told me about his engagement ring, how it had lyrics engraved on the inside. This was the same.

'"They say that love is forever,"' I read.

'Your forever is all that I need.' Kellin finished, placing a wine in front of Vic and the empty space next to him. He motioned for Vic to move over so that he could sit down.

'That's so sweet!' I exclaimed, giving Vic his ring back. 'Now, details.' I waved my hand at him, smiling widely. Vic blushed.

'We wrote a song together, and after recording it, he kissed me and made a long speech confessing his love for me. The next thing I knew, I was engaged.' Vic said.

'That's it?' I asked, slightly disappointed. 'No more details?' Vic smirked at me.

'Pretty much.' I huffed and shook my head.

'Anyways, I would like to make a toast.' I stood up and tapped my glass, gaining the attention of most of the people in the room. They all looked towards me, and I smiled at them.

'A toast! To my best friend, Kellin, and his new fiance Vic!' I yelled. Everybody raised their glasses.

'Cheers!' Everybody tipped their heads back, their assorted drinks sliding down their throats.

'May they be happy!' A stranger yelled out.

'Kiss!' Yelled another. Vic and Kellin, both blushing profusely, turned to each other, sharing a sweet kiss. Everybody settled down, returning to their own conversations, talking happily to each other.

'So, what are your plans for the wedding?' I asked, swirling my drink around. Vic looked at Kellin; Kellin looked at Vic.

'You have to organise it. You asked me.' Vic said, choosing that moment to take a big gulp of wine.

'Oh... uh... I don't know.' Kellin said, seeming surprised at his job.

'Don't worry sweetie. I'll help you plan it.' I said, winking.

Kellin's POV

- a few hours later -

The taxi dropped Vic and I off at home. It was safe to say we were wasted with the amount of alcohol Evie had shoved down our throats.

'Babe, you have to pack your stuff for tomorrow.' I said, stumbling into our bedroom and collapsing on the bed.

'I already did. Before we went out with Evie.' Vic said, flopping on the bed next to me.

'I'm going to miss you.' He said, wriggling around and curling into my side.

'I'm going to miss you too.' I said, kissing the top of his head. 'I love you.' In return, I heard a light snore. I chuckled and passed out myself.
