A Friday Night Like This

Take Take Take Take My Breath Away

I looked at my phone, bleary eyed and almost falling asleep. It was Sunday. This was it. I crept out of bed and left a note on the bedside table for Vic. On it, I had written a message:

Meet me tonight at Volt. 7pm. Wear something nice. Love you. - Vic

I walked out of my house, quickly changing and grabbing something out of the fridge and climbing into my car. I was on a quick road trip to my mum's. I opened what I had grabbed out of the fridge - a juice pocket and leftover pizza - and started wolfing it down, switching the radio on. I tapped my fingers on the wheel twice the speed of the beat of the song. I had to seek advice from my mum before I did anything that I might possibly regret. I had already married Vic once, and look where it got us.

I was sure of my feelings for him, I just don't want history to repeat, even though he swore black and blue there was nothing between him and Jaime now. And I needed my mum's opinion anyway. Vic had surprised me and it had been a spur-of-the-moment decision, although it was the right choice.

"Take take take take my breath away,

Cause I've got nothin' else that I can say.

It's time we showed our faces,

Got real and travel places.

I have something better for us this time." The song on the radio switched to Ghost Town. I listened intently to the song, Kevin's voice flying above the electronic beat.

"I'm not a waste.

Turn my back on that place

Where I've made my mistakes.

The ghost in my soul,

Is reaching for more.

I just gotta say one more thing." I found myself nodding my head.

"It's time to take this feeling of a heart-attack,

Built up from my broken past,

Find something that's gonna last.

I'm reaching out for something more.

I just gotta say one more thing." I pulled into my mum's driveway, parking the car and jumping out. I walked up to the door, putting my finished juice pocket and pear core in the bin. I knocked and she opened it, exclaiming,

'Kellin!' This was followed by a big hug.

'Hi Mum.' I said back, following her into the house.

I walked into the club, nervously stroking the velvet box in my blazer pocket. The strobe lights were flashing manically, making it seem as though everybody was in a really bad scary movie. I half expected an unenthusiastically made up clown to appear behind my guests. I smiled shakily as Alan went whizzing by, presumably to get another drink. He was quickly followed by a stream of people, who were all holding hands, laughing. I watched them go, stepping up to the microphone at the front of the room. I cut the music, much to everyone's disgust. They all cheered up a bit as they recognised who it was.

'Uh, can we get a spotlight on Vic?' I asked to Jeff Maker, who was only too happy to preoceed to switch on a light and send it swirling over the crowd. He identified Vic, and my eyes landed on him. He was wearing a white shirt and a black tie, his blazer slung casually over one arm. He had on nondescript black jeans and black Vans. His hair was natural, the waves falling in front of his face. A few people nudged him forward, and he laughed, putting his blazer on. Someone passed him a red cup full of liquid. He took a sip as he was walking towards the front, pulling a face and poking his tongue out after he swallowed the mixture. I felt a smile curve its way onto my face, my body relaxing. I took in a deep breath and once again stroked the box.

Vic walked around to the stairs at the side of the stage and walked up them. He walked over to me and planted a kiss on my cheek. He passed me a microphone, smiling.

'Hey Kells, talk.' I stared at him a while longer, my mouth falling open. Vic nervously shifted from foot to foot; Jeff still hadn't taken the spotlight off him. I turned to Jeff, saying,

'Thanks for the light, buddy.' He switched it off and put a dim glow on us. Everybody started murmuring, and I turned to them, standing stiffly. Vic came up and put a hand on my arm, holding my hand with his other. He tugged me closer and I sighed, trying to stop the fluttering butterflies in my stomach.

'Thank you for coming. Really, it means a lot,' I started, the words tumbling out of my mouth at a higher than average speed and a lower than average level. Vic nudged me and I cleared my throat and repeated my words.

'The reason I've invited you here is a special one.' I detached myself from Vic's grasp. He raised an eyebrow quizzically at me as I turned to face him. I took his hand and brought it up.

'And it includes Vic.' I kissed the back of his hand, looking down from my inch advantage into his brown eyes. My heart thudded loudly in my ears. How had Vic done this the first time? I felt myself start to shake with nerves. I lowered myself onto one knee, pulling the box from my pocket and flicking it open expertly; I had only practiced this movement for an hour beforehand.

'Vic, would you do me the great honor of marrying me?' I asked, looking up into his eyes. I could read his thoughts.

He felt pressured, there were too many people waiting to hear his answer. It should have come naturally, the small little word. Yes.

His own heartbeat picked up.

He blinked and started breathing faster; the breaths short and loud.

Silence had fallen over the crowd; you could have heard a pin drop.

Vic's hands flew to his mouth.

'Aaahhhh!'

Thanks. I won't upload it right now because I've been writing the second chapter for about a week now and it's nowhere near finished!
@raven
Haha, just kill all the characters! If you want to read a story in which some characters may die, may I suggest my other story, Kiss Me Through the Window and it's sequel The Taste Of Touching Glass? *shameless advertising*
That is so adorable! I love it! This story was great and I loved the plot progression, like it didn't move to fast or slow. I'm excited for the sequel <3
