A Friday Night Like This

I Can Live Without You, But Without You I'll Be Miserable At Best

I woke up, rubbing my eyes, trying to get rid of my blurry surroundings. I glanced at the clock beside my bed; it was just last five thirty in the morning. I stretched and quietly crept out of the room, allowing Vic more time to sleep. The house was freezing. I cold feel my skin starting to raise with goosebumps. I flicked the central heating on, putting it up to twenty degrees. It was only fifteen at the moment. I grabbed a blanket and made myself a coffee, curling up on the couch and looking outside.

My view was of run-of-the-mill houses, not unlike my own, with the occasional stray cat and early morning jogger. I wished I had a more picturesque view, where I could look outside and there would be a sudden drop, with the suburban sprawl continuing to the horizon. I would the watch the sun rise and set, and there would be a single tree to the left of the scene, where birds would nest and sing sweet songs.I tucked my legs up, rubbing my blue feet with one hand, my other clutching my drink. I slowly sipped it, half-heartedly watching the sun rise.

At about seven thirty, Vic ambled out of the bedroom, yawning and checking the temperature.

'Why is it so warm so early?' He asked, shuffling to the kitchen. He put on toast for both of us and reboiled the kettle, pouring himself an instant coffee when it had finished.

'Because it was only fifteen degrees when I got up.' I replied. I had abandoned my place on the couch for the carpet, my cup swapped for a notebook and my blanket wrapped tightly around my lower legs. I tapped a pencil against the page, drawing more music staves. They weren't very neat, and some were very wobbly, but I didn't care. I started writing in more music notes, playing the different chords and keys in my head. I played the piano on the floor next to me.

'Writing new music?' Vic asked, handing me toast with a fair layer of jam. I thanked him and took a big bite, whilst nodding.

'I think the piano's in the music room.' He said, taking a chunk out of his own toast.

'Really? I thought it would be in the bathroom.'

'Funny, Kellin. You should do stand up.' Vic left, presumably to take a shower and get ready for band practice. They - Vic and Mike - were acting like nothing was wrong, even though MIke's feelings were hurt. As long as they played it cool and acted like nothing was out of the ordinary, there was no need to put the band in jeopardy. They couldn't do that to the fans again. I finished my toast slowly, taking twice as long as I normally would due to the fact I was still writing music. I washed the dishes quickly before going into the music room.

While Vic was away, I had moved house. My old one just wasn't big enough. I had plans for the future and I didn't want them to be slowed down on any account. Vic and I were getting older now, and it was time to settle down. I had purchased a three bedroom house, one bedroom was mine and Vic's, another was the music room and the last was bare. We had a few boxes left in it from the move, and Vic still had a few to go through.

I sat down at the grand piano, a housewarming gift from my family and friends. It was white, and complemented the room nicely. I ran my fingers over the keys and started playing, the music filling the house. Vic walked in, his hair wet, wearing a jumper and jeans. He took a beanie off his mic stand and jammed it on his head.

'That sounds good.' He said, taking his acoustic guitar off its rack and sat on top of the piano.

'Play it again.' He urged. I did, relishing in the sweet noise. Vic changed his position, sitting cross-legged and facing me, rather than the wall. He watched me play, gesturing for me to start again when I had finished. I replayed the piece, sighing and looking up at Vic. I had most of it memorised by now. Vic placed his fingers on the strings and started playing, strumming and plucking the guitar at different intervals. We played for a while, me repeating the same chunk of music, while Vic figured out his, changing it in some places. He finally started singing, his voice low, accompanying the music, instead of the other way round.

'You're so good, you're so bad, that everybody wants to be your man,'

As soon as the first note hit the air, I knew it. Today is the day.

'Hey guys!' I heard Mike say, interrupting our music session. Jaime and Tony filed in behind him, picking up their respectful instruments. Mike picked up a pair of drumsticks and dragged one of his drums over to the kit. Since I had been so into the music, my hands fell, landing on the keys, which let out a dreadful noise.

'Wonderful music there, Kellin.' Jaime said. I greeted the rest of Pierce the Veil before walking out, giving Vic a kiss on the cheek. I got into my car and drove for a while, finally finding the shop I needed to visit.

I got out of the car and walked in. Was this really what I wanted to do? Then again, he had thrown his old one out.

'Hello sir, how may I help you?' The lady at the cash register asked.

'Uh, hi. Could I please look at engagement rings?'

'Of course! Ready to tie the knot with your special lady?' She asked happily, showing me to where the rings are.

'Ah, no. I'm planning on proposing to my boyfriend.' I said, looking at the rings. I compared them to my own, which I had taken out of my pocket. It had stayed in the console of my car while I wasn't wearing it.

Title cred: Miserable At Best

Awww :) They're gonna get married! (if Vic says yes....) (That was my big idea, ladies and gentlemen) Wait... are there any guys reading this?? Please let me know if you are! That'd be cool. :)

And I used one of You Me At Six's songs for the lyrics Vic sang. I can't remember which ones, but cred to them ;)

Thanks. I won't upload it right now because I've been writing the second chapter for about a week now and it's nowhere near finished!
@raven
Haha, just kill all the characters! If you want to read a story in which some characters may die, may I suggest my other story, Kiss Me Through the Window and it's sequel The Taste Of Touching Glass? *shameless advertising*
That is so adorable! I love it! This story was great and I loved the plot progression, like it didn't move to fast or slow. I'm excited for the sequel <3
