Queen For A Day

Wandering and Weeping

Jaime and Tony came back to us half an hour later complaining of hunger. If I hadn’t known better I could’ve sworn they’d never ever eaten before. Honestly I was starving too. Probably because Mike and I were high as fuck, and I’m sure Jaime and Tony noticed, but they didn’t say anything. The four of us walked back the way we had come and found a cute little restaurant that had a serious ocean theme. We were seated and placed our orders before anyone mentioned Vic. Jaime pulled out his phone and sent a quick text.
“Just told Vic where we are, I think he’ll probably meet us.” He said, shoving his phone back in his pocket. I nodded, not really knowing what to say.
“Eww why do we need him,” Mike complained loudly. I laughed just as loudly at him. Jaime and Tony hid their faces in their hands. Why were they embarrassed, wasn’t a guy allowed to not like his brother?
“Hi,” A voice said behind us. We all looked up to see Vic.
“That was quick,” Jaime smiled.
“I was nearby,” The reply was short and sharp. Vic took his seat and a waitress took his order.
The table went silent. I could’ve cut the atmosphere with a knife. I never know what to say in these circumstances though..
“I went for a swim!” Thank fuck for Jaime.
“Same,” Tony said.
“We didn’t,” I giggled, looking at Mike who laughed back.
Vic’s eyes flicked between me and mike, then back at me. “You got high with him?” He squinted his eyes at me. He looked disappointed.
“Um, maybe.” I muttered, looking away.
“Great, what the hell Mike, if AP knew we’d be fucked!” Vic yelled at his brother. A few staff members and other customers stared daggers at us.
The rest of the time we spent in the restaurant was awkward. Jaime and Tony did most of the talking. I was scared that if I said something Vic would get even madder.
We paid and left the restaurant and made our way back to the bus. Somehow I ended up walking with Jaime and Tony again. That was probably planned. The Fuentes brothers followed a far way back. I could see that they were having a heated argument as they walked, but I couldn’t hear it.
“Next stop is the concert venue,” Tony was explaining to me as I tried to watch the brothers behind us. “Our show is in about an hour so we’ll quickly need to get there and warm up. You’ll be side stage for it, then we’ll probably go out again after it.”
“Sounds good Tony.” I responded quietly.
“Don’t let them get you down Cali,” Tony put an arm around my shoulder and pulled me closer.
“Yeah, turn that frown upside down!” Jaime put in. I couldn’t help but smile at them.

On the short drive to the venue I had a brief tour of the bus which was pretty interesting. The bunks didn’t look as uncomfortable as I’d imaged they’d be, and the bus was definitely bigger than you’d expect. We reached the venue and after that it was one big rush. The guys went to get changed and all that which left me to wander alone. I was curiously looking through each room, which I probably shouldn’t have been doing. Oh well. I could hear singing from one of the dressing rooms and I couldn’t help but go up to the door. It was slightly ajar so I could hear who it was almost perfectly. The high melodic sound of Vic’s voice rung out, and I recognized the song as Bulletproof Love. I was completely captured by his voice. He hit each note perfectly and I could hear the emotion in his voice.
“I can barely say your name, so I’ll try to write it and fill the pen with blood from the sink..” his voice trailed off and I heard a slight sob in the empty room. After a few seconds of silence I poked my head in to see Vic sitting on a couch with his head in his hands. I heard another sob and realized something. He was crying. Victor Fuentes was sitting alone in a room crying, right before his show. I stepped right into the room, but he didn’t hear me. I softly walked over to him until I was a few steps away.
“Vic,” I whispered softly. His head shot up and his eyes zeroed in on me.
“What are you doing!?” He asked fiercely, wiping the tears from his face.
“A-are you ok?” I mumbled taking a step back. He stared at me and stood up. Even though he was short, and I was wearing heels, he was still taller than me.. somehow.
“I’m fine, please knock next time. Actually, just don’t come in here at all please. Now go.” He sat back down and pointed to the door. His voice didn’t sound as violent as it had every other time I’d spoken to him. But he still wasn’t nice to me.
I walked out of the room quickly and rushed to my spot beside the stage where I knew I could wait in peace. This, unfortunately, left me alone with my thoughts. Why was Vic crying? Something’s obviously wrong today, this must have to do with it. And why did he stop singing at that part. Sure, it’s the most emotional line of the song and I had heard that he has struggled with self-harm. But what does that have to do with today?

Notes

So she found Vic crying huh...
