Queen For A Day

VIC’S POV
I kinda felt bad for being so rude to the girl, she was just a fan after all. But there was something about her I didn’t like. I slammed the door behind me as I left the room but stayed leaning against it.
“So Cali, your guitar playing was amazing, how’d you learn how to do that?” Tony’s voice came through the door.
After a short pause I heard the girl’s response. “Well, it was actually you guys who inspired me to learn guitar.. I’ve loved your music since the beginning and decided to try and play songs like you.”
Kiss ass.
I couldn’t listen to anymore so I walked to the back lounge and picked up my guitar. I played for the entire trip to the studio when I heard the bus stop and everyone get out. Or so I thought. I placed the guitar down on its stand before stretching my sore arms out.
The door opened suddenly and Mike walked in and crossed his arms. “What the fuck Vic?”
“What,” I said, staring at him uninterestedly. Sometimes I wish I wasn’t in a band with my little brother.
“Come on, you know exactly what I’m talking about. You were a dick to her! What is your problem!?” He yelled, gesturing wildly with his arms.
“I don’t care, I don’t like her!” I replied angrily.
“You don’t even know her you idiot! You should talk to her and at least show her you’re not an asshole.” He turned and started walking around but I reached for his shirt and pulled him back.
“Fuck off Mike! I don’t have to, I never signed up for this shit! I never wanted to have her here!” I screamed at him. Now I was angry. He had no idea how I felt about this. I stared up at him heatedly. Fuck I hate being the short one. Mike looked furious and before I knew what was happening I felt a huge blow to my stomach and I staggered away in shock. He’d hit me.
“Man the fuck up Vic.” He stormed out of the bus, leaving me astonished. He hit me. I couldn’t believe it. What the hell. The pain in my stomach was subsiding rapidly, but each breath still made me wince. I stood up straight and pulled my beanie down further over my head before cautiously walking off the bus. There was no sign of any of anyone around so I just walked straight for the studio, pushing my way in through the heavy door.
“Hi Vic,” a few voices called as I walked in. I tried to muster up a fake smile for them, hoping no one would catch on. I found the rest of my band and the girl in the main studio, chatting animatedly with Tom Denney, who’s been helping us write songs. Everyone was laughing about something when I walked in, but stopped and turned as soon as they saw me.
“Oh, hi Vic,” Tom smiled slightly. “Nice to see you,”
“Tom,” I nodded my head at him. Tony, Jaime and the girl were looking at me blankly but Mike was scowling at the floor.
“Anyways, so yeah I’ve been writing for a few other bands lately….” Tom continued on with his previous conversation. I wandered across the room and sat on a desk chair, half listening to the writer. I could feel eyes burning into me and couldn’t help but look up to see the girl staring intently past Tom and at me. I grimaced and looked away slightly and she did the same. This is going to be a long day.


CALI’S POV
I still could tell Vic had some sort of problem with me. As soon as he was in the studio with Tom and the rest of the band I could feel the tension in the air. I also noticed that Mike and Vic refused completely to look at each other, leaving me wondering about what had happened in the bus a few minutes earlier. We were taken around into a few other rooms, all of which I found fascinating, but the obvious clash between the Fuentes brothers was making everything uncomfortable. By the time we’d looked through all of the studio I was starting to wonder whether this was a good idea. We said our goodbyes to Tom and the other people in the studio and got back on the big black bus. Vic was walking a few metres in front of the rest of us and he disappeared into the back lounge as soon as we got on. The other guys tried to ignore him, but I could see they all weren’t happy with their friend. We sat on the couches in silence as the bus roared to life and pulled back onto the road. I had to get to the bottom of this.
“Wh-whats going on?” I murmured, half hoping no one would hear me. No one looked up.
“Uh, Vic’s just being difficult today,” Mike told me. Did he sound angry?
“Maybe this wasn’t a good idea..” I trailed off.
“No no no!” Jaime exclaimed from beside me, wrapping his arms around me tightly. “You’re great company! We love having you here!”
“Cali seriously, don’t worry about him,” Mike hugged me from my other side.
“Guys, you’re squishing me!” I laughed.
“Nope,” Tony rushed over and plopped himself down on my lap, “NOW we’re squishing you!”
“Help!” I fake called through my laughter. The three men let go of me and we all were left chuckling.
“Cali… do you smoke?” Mike asked out of the blue. I stared at him, trying to figure out what he meant.
“Weed?” I asked with wide eyes. He just smirked in response, knowing my answer.
“How’d you know?..”
“You smell of it,” He chuckled. “You seem like my kinda girl,” he threw an arm around me jokingly.
“Only for you babe,” I replied sarcastically, snuggling into his side. Suddenly the bus came to a lurching stop, almost throwing me off my seat. Thank fuck I was holding onto Mike.
“Well we’re at the beach, you guys can go get lunch and all that, take as long as you want, I’ll be here.” Ben called. Mike smirked at me before grabbing his wallet and climbing out of the bus. We wandered for twenty minutes or so along the beach then sat down on a park bench on a secluded part.
“I’m going in the water!” Jaime decided loudly before running off, followed closely by Tony.
“It’s too cold to swim!” I exclaimed, looking at Mike.
“That’s why you and I aren’t swimming. We’re the smart ones.” He ruffled my hair slightly. If anyone else did that I’d freak, but Mike seemed like a good guy. I leaned into his shoulder and sighed.
“Everything ok Cali?” He asked gently. No, Vic is acting weird and I think it’s my fault. This is the ultimate rejection, being ignored by one of your idols.. It made me feel like shit.
“Yeah,” I breathed, staring out at the calming ocean.
“Cali…..” He knows me to well. Which is weird because we’ve only really known each other for a few hours.
“I just want to know what’s up with Vic..”
Mike didn’t reply. It started to get to the point where I thought he wouldn’t answer at all. “I’m sorry Cali, by brother’s a strange one. I don’t know why he’s acting this way. I swear he’s not normally like this.”
“So it’s my fault?” I whispered.
“No! No it seriously isn’t. Look, I’m sure he’ll come around eventually, I had a bit of a talk to him earlier.” The tattooed man scoffed slightly. Is there something he isn’t telling me?
“Ok Mike, if you say so. I guess you know him pretty well.” I giggled, trying to lighten the mood.
Mike groaned, “I know him too well!”
After a few minutes of comfortable silence Mike started shifting around a bit, so I moved off his shoulder. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a wallet. I watched curiously as he pulled three objects out of one of the sections. That’s when I recognized them.
“Want one?” Mike smirked holding up two joints and a lighter. This is exactly what I need.
“You, my friend, are a lifesaver,” I grinned, taking one.
