Queen For A Day

VICS POV
As Mike and I walked away from Cali’s apartment he kept glancing over at me. By the time we were in the lobby and he was still doing it I’d had enough.
“What do you want Mike?” I sighed.
He said nothing until we were in his car.
“So, tell me what happened.” He somehow knew something was up, was it really that obvious?
“I kissed her,” I admitted. No point trying to avoid telling him.
“Way to go!” He slapped my shoulder hard as we pulled away.
“Hm, but I have a girlfriend Mike.” Regret was already starting to eat away at me. I wasn’t usually a cheater like this.. I’d never cheated on a girl in my life.
“You asked her already!? This is great Vic!” Mike exclaimed happily. Wait what?
“No, I mean I’m going out with Rayne.. I didn’t ask Cali out.” I stuttered.
Mike’s shoulders dropped a bit and his smile faded to a frown.
“Who do you want to be with then?” He asked quietly. No one liked Rayne, it was pretty obvious, but it was my life, I make the decisions.
“I don’t know.” I did know. I wanted Cali. She’s all I wanted over the past few months. I already regret asking Rayne to be my girlfriend. It should’ve been Cali. But now I’m stuck with the wrong girl.
“Well I think I know. Rayne’s a bitch Vic, she’s been nothing but horrible to everyone since you started dating.”
“I know. Just shut up ok. I can make my own decisions.” I hissed defensively.
“Ok, ok, sorry.” Mike paused before smirking. “I just still can’t believe how well you and Cali worked this time.”
“You makes it sound like we were an experiment.” I chuckled.
Mike was silent.
“Wait, hang on.” The morning’s events ran through my head. Mike showing up at my house and telling me he needed me. Arguing when we got to Cali’s apartment block about me going up with him. Him agreeing to stay for a while. And then him leaving us alone.
“Fuck Mike, did you set us up!?” I asked incredulously.
“Yeah, maybe. Sorry.. I just wanted to prove to Cali that you two could work.”
“So she was in on this to?” I wasn’t really angry. More shocked that they would do this.
Mike nodded carefully, “but don’t be mad at her, it was my idea. I knew you two can be good for each other though. You should be with her Vic.”
I sat and thought for a few seconds. I know I should be with her. But it wasn’t that fucking simple.
“Mike, didn’t you say you were going to go pick up a friend?” I suddenly realised, noticing the empty back seat.
Mike glanced over and smirked. “All part of the plan brother.”
Oh man.

CALI’S POV
I seemed to fly through the next few days on a breeze. For some reason everything seemed to be going well for once. Actually I knew the reason. I kissed Vic Fuentes. It did cross my mind that it isn’t such an amazing thing, since we had already kissed and even had sex before. But I didn’t remember any of that night, so this felt like the first time. And I kinda counted it as the first time.
On top of all that I had a visitor a few days later. I was waiting between lessons in my tutoring room, just playing my electric guitar when my phone rang.
I scrambled to put down the guitar and retrieve my phone from my bag.
“Hello?” I answered it just in time. I really need to clean my bag out. I could hide an elephant in there and not find it for months.
“Hello is this Cali Hill?” a male voice asked.
“Yes, it is,” Neither the voice or number was familiar.
“My name is Ian Jennings, I work for Fearless Records.” He explained.
“Oh ok, what can I do for you?” why would they be calling me?
“I was at your audition for Pierce the Veil’s ‘Queen for A Day’ competition, as I used to work for Alternative Press, and I have not been able to get you out of my head. Your audition was by far the best and you seem like quite an amazing musician.” Wow.
“Th-thank you,” I stammered, taken aback by his praise.
“I have been speaking to a few of my colleagues and we’ve decided to offer you a contract with us.”
“Um, what does that mean?” I asked, barely unable to contain my excitement. They wanted me?
“We want to sign you to Fearless Records. This would mean you would work with writers and other musicians and release your own music through us. We may even be able to put you on a tour soon if everything goes well.”
What the hell. “Wow, yes I would love to!” I almost squealed with happiness.
“That’s great, let’s schedule a meeting to go over the fine details. When are you free?”
“Um,” I jumped out of my seat and ran to the calendar on the back of the door. “I’m free this Wednesday all day,”
“Ok, how about at 11:30am?”
“Sounds great,” I wrote it down on the calendar.
“We’ll see you then Ms Hill.” And we hung up.
“Yes!” I couldn’t hold my excitement any more. I was shaking so much as I dialled the first number in my phone book.
“Fay you’ll never believe what just happened!”
My life seemed to be heading in the right direction.
