Queen For A Day

Tours and A Temper

CALI’S POV
Mike and Vic invited to say goodbye to the band when they left for their tour so I arrived at Vic’s house at 11 o’clock sharp that Tuesday, 30 minutes before they were supposed to leave. The bus I caught dropped me off just down the road from his house, which I had never been too. At first I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to find it, but the huge tour bus with their band name on the street out front gave it away pretty well.
I walked up to find about 15 people, most of whom I didn’t recognize, scurrying around madly, organizing the last few bags and necessities. I spotted Jaime walking off the bus and waved at him sheepishly.
“Cali!” He called out, running to me and pulling me into a hug. “What are you doing here?”
Did he know?
“Uh, Mike and Vic invited me to wave you guys off,” I explained vaguely, not knowing if Jaime knew if I was pregnant or not.
“We happened to catch up at Saxon’s wedding the other day,” Mike walked up with Tony and smiled at me.
“Ohh, well it’s great to see you again!” Jaime accepted the answer. So he didn’t know. Tony pulled me into a hug as well. As he let me go I saw Vic walking up to us slowly.
“Hey Vic,” I said gently. I don’t know why it came out so soft. I guess I just had no idea of how to act around him.
“Hey,” He didn’t hug me. he just smiled lightly, only catching my eye for a few seconds.
“I’m gonna go get the rest of my bags,” Tony mumbled, and Jaime agreed, walking back into Vic’s house.
“Don’t they know?” I uttered as soon as they got out of earshot.
“No,” Vic stepped right up to me. “I don’t really want them to know yet, plus I didn’t want to say anything in case you didn’t want to.”
I hadn’t really thought to hard about who to tell. So far the only ones were Poppy, Mike, Fay and Mariah. “I think we need to tell our parents first.” I hated saying it. I didn’t want to tell them.
A worried expression came over Vic’s face. “How though.. my parent’s probably won’t be happy.”
“Hah, you think yours won’t be? My mother just planned a shotgun wedding for my brother. She was mad enough that his girlfriend got pregnant before they were married. It’s gonna be worse for me.”
“You two could get married,” Mike joked. Vic and I glared at him. “Hey it was only a joke!” he held up his hands in surrender.
“Whatever, maybe we should just wait a while to tell them ok,” Vic yawned. He looked sleep deprived. But at least he looked a little better than he did when he showed up at my house a few days before.
“Guys, fifteen minutes!” Ben, their driver called from the bus.
“I’ve gotta go get the last of my stuff,” Vic turned and walked back into his house.
“Don’t you need to as well?” I asked Mike when he made no move to go back to the house.
“Nah, I’m all ready to go.” Mike looked at me quizzically for a few seconds.
“What?” I blushed awkwardly under his gaze.
“He’s been acting weird. I don’t really understand, but he’s been quiet and gentle and, I don’t know, sadder than usual..” Mike trailed off.
That can’t be good.
“Well what can I possibly do about it?” I asked defensively. He had no right to put this on me! I already knew I’d fucked up, no need to make me feel worse.
“I don’t know Cali, talk to him?” He motioned back towards the house. I sighed. This is going to be a long nine months.
Without another word I walked through the front door and followed the noises of closing draws and feet shuffling to a bedroom. The door was half open so I could see Vic inside, hastily throwing his last few possessions into a suitcase. I tapped lightly on the door.
“Hey Vic,” I coughed awkwardly. He looked up and smiled at me casually.
“Hey, how are you doing?”
“We’re fine thanks,” I carefully made sure to mention the baby.
“That’s good,” Vic took a small step toward me and then hesitated. Did he want to hug me?
Whether he wanted to or not, I couldn’t deny that I craved his touch. I felt something different with Vic than I did with the other guys. I didn’t like him romantically, but there was still some subconscious feeling that I needed to feel close to him.
Before thinking about it a second more I walked up to him and threw my arms around his neck. He tensed at first, but then hugged me back. To my surprise he didn’t let go straight away. He held me close, in his embrace with his head resting against the top of my own and my ear pressed against his heart. I never wanted to let go.
The house was silent, everyone must’ve been outside but we wouldn’t have even noticed if a hurricane came through. We were lost in each other for that moment in time. I felt Vic shift slightly, but he didn’t loosen his grip on me. I felt his lips meet the top of my head gently.
I couldn’t help but smile at the gesture. I pulled back a little bit and reached up to cup his cheek in one of my small hands, and kissed his other cheek.
“Cali what are we doing?” Vic breathed, not breaking our eye contact.
“I just wanted to be close to you,” I admitted.
He paused then dropped his arms from me and stepped right away. “This isn’t a good idea. I need to go.” He grabbed his suitcase from the floor and dragged it out of the room, leaving me more confused than I’d ever been.
What is his problem? That was the closest we’d ever been – apart from when we’d slept together –but he had to go ruin it all like that. The rejection was burning a hole in my chest and I was struggling to breathe properly. I wanted to cry.
“Cali!?” Mike’s voice echoed through the house. I decided not to reply, knowing I’d probably break down if I did. Thankfully I heard his footsteps getting closer and closer to the bedroom.
“Are you ok?” Mike exclaimed as soon as he saw my face.
“Why do you ask?” I send him a pained smile.
“You look like you just found out Santa doesn’t exist.” Mike stated dryly.
“Are you saying he doesn’t?” I smiled again, this time it wasn’t as forced.
“Did you talk to Vic? He just stormed out of the house and straight into the bus without even glancing at anyone.” Mike pulled me down to sit next to him on Vic’s bed.
“Uh, yeah.. we hugged and then he got all mad at me, he just doesn’t like me Mike,” A few tears escaped my eyes.
Mike sighed and remained silent, confirming my thoughts.
“He never did, did he?” I stared Mike straight in the eyes.
“Look, I don’t know ok, you need to talk to him about this. It’s not really me who should be explaining.” I immediately felt bad.
“Sorry Mike, you keep getting caught up in all this,” He threw his long arm around my shoulder.
“Don’t worry Hun, I just want to keep you and the baby safe and happy.”
“Michael Fuentes get your ass to the bus right now!” Jaime’s cheery voice rung out through the house.
“C’mon,” Mike stood and held a hand out for me. We walked out the front of the house hand in hand, acquiring weird looks from Jaime and a few of the crew.
Jaime pulled me away from Mike and pulled me into a hug, “It was good to see you again Cali,”
“Yeah, you too. I hope you have a good tour,” I pulled away and moved over to Tony who also hugged me.
“Will we see you again?” Tony asked quietly.
“Yeah, I think you guys will be seeing more of me than you want from now on.” I chuckled. The two men looked at me, confused. I shook my head, suddenly realizing I shouldn’t have said that.
“Don’t worry,” I moved to Mike next who hugged me tight.
“I’ll keep in contact ok? We’ll figure out what’s up with Vic together,” Mike muttered in my ear.
“Ok, thank you Mike.” I reached up and kissed his cheek before he let me go. I turned to see Vic watching us.
“Goodbye Vic,” I gave him a sad smile. His facial expression didn’t change.
“Bye,” He grunted, giving me one last blank look before turning to the bus.
I stood and waved the guys off and sat out the front of Vic’s house until the bus had disappeared from sight.
Three months. It’ll be three months until they return. How is this going to work?

Mike texted me for the first time five days after they’d left. I had been anxiously checking my phone every ten minutes since they’d gone, hoping that I’d get some sort of update or a call from Vic saying he was sorry. It never came. When Mike texted it was just brief, saying that the tour was great so far but Vic’s mood had still been weird. I replied asking if I should do something about it, but Mike never replied.
