Outcast

I can't wait to see your brilliant face

'Hi, nice to meet you!' Vic offered me his tan hand and I shook it softly. He had shoulder-length brown hair covered by a beanie, brown shiny eyes and tan skin, that matched perfectly with the silver nostril on his nose. He was wearing a simple white v- neck with a black sweater, black skinnies and Vans. Damn, wasn't he hot.
'Nice to meet you too.' I replied in a polite tone, giving him a big smile. He looked at me surprised and returned the gesture.
'Woah! Irish?' I nodded my head eagerly with a proud smirk on my freckled irish face. 'Never would've guessed! That's so cool!'
'Okay, okay, Vic, stop drooling over my friend here.' Kellin said bluntly, throwing an arm around my shoulder and making both Vic and I blush. I mentally gushed; God, he was cute. 'We came because Thalia just moved here and needs a flat to rent, so I thought that maybe you still had yours for rent..."
Vic didn't answer straight away, so I supposed he had either been thinking about what Kellin had just asked him, or he had simply zoned out. "Oh, um... Yes. I mean, yeah, it's empty." Vic rushed a bit over his words, making him look quite adorable. He scratched his forehead and readjusted his beanie before looking back up directly at me, wearing a big smile on his face. "If you want to see it the flat, I'll show it to you."
"That'd be perfect, thanks Vic." I answered quickly, returning his big smile. He made a sign for me and Kellin to follow, but Kellin refused.
"Actually, I've got somewhere important to be. So, I'll leave you two alone to... sort out the details, okay? I'll swing by tomorrow to see how you're doing, Thal." Kellin announced, walking back to his car. Oh, so now he's starting with the nicknames? He's so going to get it tomorrow!
He gave me a wicked grin and looked at both Vic and I once more before he waved at us and left, speeding down the road. My sixth sense for mischievous friends told me that Kellin had something on his mind, but I just shrugged it off when Vic turned to look at me with that big, warm smile that, apparently, never left his face.
"Well, let's go inside, shall we?" I nodded, returning the smile, and followed him towards a door. It was a two-story building, painted in a light shade of blue. Most buildings around there were couloured in light shades of bright colours - orange, yellow, green, red - all of the colours starting to fade away, the paint peeling off slightly in some places. The buildings, together with the sea behind offered an atmosphere difficult to describe.
Vic opened the wooden door to the blue building and motioned me to walk inside, him following suit. I looked around, but it was pretty dark already inside, so I could see much. That was until I heard the front door close and the flick of light switch, then the light was on and I could take in my surroundings.
I was standing before a wooden stairwell, the railing made out of the same dark, worn wood that gave it the appearance of looking ancient. To the left of the stairs was a door, with a mat that read "Bienvenido"which, thanks to the spanish I'd learned in school, I knew meant welcome in spanish. At the top of the stairs there was another exact same door, but this one without a mat. I supposed that was the empty flat?
"This door here is my flat. Both of them were once a big house, but they were split into separate appartments to make them more, economically valuable, I suppose." Vic explained, pointing at both doors. He turned to me and cracked a tiny smile. "Would you like to see the empty one?" I nodded eagerly and his smile grew nigger. Before we started walking upstairs, Vic turned around and took my suitcase from me, carrying it upstairs himself.
"You didn't need to do that, you know? I'm pretty strong and capable myself." I said to him once we reached the top of the stairs. He chuckled lightly and looked at me up and down.
"I'm sure you are..." He answered, a hint of sarcasm noticeable in his voice. I was going to reply with a sassy, smart-ass comment of mine before he caught me off guard. "Besides, what kind of gentleman would let the beautiful lady in distress carry luggage?"
His comment left me speechless as he opened the door to reveal the flat that was most probably goign to become my new home. What was shown before myy eyes proved me right because I instantly fell in love with the place.
It was a pretty small place, walls painted in a bright white colour that reflected the light from the sun that was starting to set. The furniture was all made out of old-looking dark wood, which gave it that "beach-side house" look. The kitchen was open to the rest of the living room, and there were two doors, which I supposed connected with a bedroom and a bathroom. But what almost made me squeal was the large window on the far end of the living room. It had a seat on it and it opened out directly to a perfect view of the sea and the beach.
"So, um, what do you... like, what do think?" Vic's voice dragged me out of my marvelled state and I turned around to face him with a shit eating grin on my face. He was standing closer than I thought and we were only a few centimetres away from each other. My breath hitched and my heart beat quickened, but I hoped I could mask it well enough. Well, wasn't this weird. "If you don't like it, you can change anything..."
"It's perfect." I cut Vic off, speaking each word softly, still looking around in awe at the beautifully decorated space around us. "Don't you dare say anything against my new home."
"So, you're staying?" Vic asked, and I swore I heard some kind oh hope? in his voice. I guessed the boy needed the money and renting the flat just came at a very convenient time.
"If you allow me to stay, then well, yeah." I nodded, mimicking his smile. Just then, I noticed we were still as close as before, and none of us had taken a step to move away until now. Reluctantly, I took a step back and he chuckled softly before giving me a smirk.
"It'll be a pleasure. I just hope you're not a very noisy neighbour." He winked at me before turning away towards the door. "I'll leave you to unpack your things and, if you want, we can talk about the rent tomorrow morning over breakfast?" Again that weird hope was heard on his voice, and I couldn't really rell why it was there.
"Sounds great to me." I answered with a honest, big smile. He answered with the same gesture and turned to leave. Before he did, though, I called out for him once more. "Vic!"
"Yeah?" He asked, his hand on the knob, turning to look at me with those warm brown eyes of his.
"Thanks. Really. You literally saved my life." I told him with a small, shy smile, being completely honest and just hoping he would take my statement as a set phrase.
"It's my pleasure, Thalia. And, don't worry, maybe you've saved mine as well."
With that, Vic shoot me one last smile and then he was gone, leaving me with a fluttery stomach, a faltering heart and a million thoughts running through my head.
