I'm tired of begging for the things that I want

The flight from Ireland to San Diego was long and uncomfortable, given that being stuck between a large, sweaty man that falls asleep on your shoulder and an old lady that doesn't stop chatting and ranting about how her family never visits her and how it's always her who has to fly across the world to see her grandchildren.
After a thirteen hour flight, we landed at the airport in San Diego, and I was finally able to stand up and stretch my legs and roll my shoulders without that man's head weighing my left one down making it fall asleep. When they let us out of the plane, I walked straight to the luggage treadmill to collect my suitcase. I couldn't wait to get out the packed airport, find somewhere to stay and sleep for a whole fucking day. There are 7 hours of difference between San Diego and Ireland, so after taking off at 2am and 13 hours of flying, it was 8 am here. Perfect time to grab a coffee, find a hotel room and sleep.
I hailed a taxi to take me to the city centre and, 15 minutes later, I found myself standing in the middle of an unknow, busy street with no clue of where to go or what to do. I couldn't be any more lost than I already was, so I opted for a small coffee shop that looked quite cozy and not too crammed.
I walked inside and stood on the line, behind a tall, lanky man in a suit.
Once it was my turn, I walked over to the counter to be met by a blue eyed boy, probably in his early-mid twenties, with shoulder length black hair hair. The tag on his uniform shirt read the name "Kellin". Weird name; but cool at the same time.
'Hi, what can I get you?' The Kellin boy asked with a polite smile, which I returned despite being tired. He had a nice smile. 'A mocca latte, please.'
'Your name, pretty?' He asked, being kind of flirty and winked as he grabbed a cup and a sharpie. I laughed and told him my name. 'Nice name. Not from around here, are you?'
'No, not really. I'm actually Irish.' I explained shyly, playing with the pocket of my jeans. He gave me a wide smile and handed me my drink.
'Well, there you are, Irish girl. Careful, it's hot.' Kellin said, and a mischievous, yet friendly grin edged on his lips. I thanked him and returned the smile before walking away to find a table.

I had been looking for an affordable flat in advertisements on newspapers for almost 4 hours, at least 2 more coffees going down as well, but neither of them was what I was looking for. Not that I needed much, just a small appartment that wasn't too expensive. Apparently, that was too much to ask for. Just then, the extraordinary, unearthly intellect which I was gifted with -note the sarcasm- decided to kick in and a little light bulb lit up inside my head. Putting all my papers aside, I made my way towards the coffee shop counter for about the fourth time today. There was Kellin once again, not having changed an inch since my last coffee two hours ago. Once he saw me, he smiled brightly and leaned over the counter top.
'My, my Thalia. I'm going to start thinking you don't want coffee anymore but just come here to flirt with me!' He said, in a fake flirty tone, winking at me. I smiled, wholeheartedly for the first time after a long time, and he returned the gesture, amused.
'Actually, I have a question, if you don't mind me asking, Mr. Kellin.' I continued with the silly joke-flirting, as if we were friends instead of complete strangers. He gave me an interested glance and then squeaked - yeah, like literally squeaked - excitedly.
'Oh, I thought you were never goin to ask me! Yes, yes, a million times yes!' Kellin impersonated the reaction of someone after their love just popped the question -a bit overreacted, if I may say so- and that sent both of us into a fit of laughter, earning weird glances from other customers which we clearly ignored. Once we calmed down, he took a deep breath and looked at me, the huge grin not leaving his face. 'Okay, okay now, tell me. What is it you wanted to know?'
'Oh, um, yeah, well. I've been searching for a cheap apartment in the newspaper and I can find none, so I was wondering if you knew any apartments for rent around here.' My voice sounded a bit shy, unsure if he'd think it was a stupid question or completely uncalled for from a complete stranger like I was. He proved me wrong when I saw the smile hadn't left his profile and I sighed in relief.
'You're legal, and pretty short, so you wouldn't last a night alone in this city, so I'll help you out on this one.' Kellin said, grinning, and he sent me a wink. I sighed again in relief and kindly ignored the fact that he had just called me too-short-to-defend-myself. He leaned over the countertop in a mysterious way as if we were talking about serious business. Yeah, I'm the secret leader of the most dangerous gang around here, didn't you know?
'So, I've got this friend whose parents left him a building with two flats and he's put one of them for rent. The price is a real bargain, I think it's 200 per month. Not the nicest neibourghood, but...' He explained, scratching the back of his head. My mood lightened again instantly at Kellin's words; it was most certainly my lucky day.
'Wow, that's... Perfect!' I exclaimed excitedly with an ear to ear grin across my face. 'Thank you so so so much! If you could just tell me where I can find him, then...'
'Look, my shift ends in 10. How about we grab something to eat and I drive you there?' Kellin offered more than kindlyt; at the end of the day, we didn't know each other and he had already done more for me than most people back at home. The memories of all that I'd left behind came back like a wave and I guess I zoned out, because the next thing I see is Kellin snapping his fingers in front of my face. 'Hey, are you okay? You just kinda... um... zoned out.'
'Oh, yeah sorry.' I answered quickly, an flashed him and big reassuring smile, which he returned equally big. 'And I'd love you to drive me there, but I don't want to be a bother, you know? I'm sure you've got more interesting things to do...'
'Nonsense! C'mon, get your things and let's go!' Kellin exclaimed in his enthusiastic voice as he untied the apron he was wearing for work and walked out from behind the counter. Just then I noticed he was kind of short too - but still taller than me - and was wearing black skinnies and a Memphis May Fire t-shirt. He noticed my staring and asked, raising an eyebrow and pulling off a smirk. 'You like Memphis?'
'Fav band of all time.' I stated in a serious tone, trying to look badass and serious. But that, due to my height is apparently impossible, and we ended up laughing.
'Yeah, you're definitely legal.'

After grabbing something to eat, Kellin drove us for fifteen minutes towards the outskirts of San Diego, blasting what he claimed was the 'Perfect Driving-With-Friends-With-Good-Music-Taste Playlist' which included several bands like Memphis, Bring Me The Horizon, Man Overboard, Chiodos, Tonight Alive, and others. I had to give him that; the boy certainly had a great music taste.
During the time that took us to get to the place, we got to know each other a bit better. I learned he was from Michigan, he sung, and that he was bi. When he told me, I literally mentally squealed, because he was so cute and it was just so asdfghjkl that he was -although just partly - gay. He asked about my life back in Ireland, which I told him about a bit. Only that I left out the fact that I had no one back there and that I was a 17 year old on the run, because I didn't know if I could trust him with that just yet.
I was lost in deep thoughts when Kellin's voice pulled me out of my thoughts. 'C'mon Thalia, we're here.' He jumped out of the car excited and I followed him suit, chuckling at his bubbly personality.
As Kellin had warned me before, the place wasn't the nicest or the fanciest neighbourhood, but it had a decadent, grunge touch that pulled me towards it. And plus, the beach was only a few meters away, so I could already see the sea, and I would've been able to hear it had it not been for Kellin yelling at someone.
'Yo!'
'Kellin!' Someone yelled back. The person had a nice voice, definitely male, but somewhat high pitched. I turned around to be met by Kellin hugging an unknown boy. Was this his boyfriend? 'How've you been, Kells?' The second boy asked, ruffling Kellin's hair with his hand. Okay, that wasn't boyfriend treatment, wasn't it?
'Stop, you're messing my hair!' Kellin whined, shaking his head and wipping his hair to the side. That boy chuckled and I couldn't help but crack a smile at Kellin's childishness. 'And good, I've been pretty good, thanks. I'd ask about you, but actually, today I came down for business.'
'Business?' the voice repeated, raising an eyebrow, confused by Kellin's chose of words.
'Yep. Here, I want you to meet someone.' Kellin started and turned his friend so he was facing my way. I saw his eyes open wide for a moment before he controlled his expression and flashed me a bright smile.
'Vic, Thalia. Thalia, this is my friend Vic.'

Notes

Sooo, this was chapter 2. I know it's not long or anything, but there you go. Now Vic is in the scene, hahahahaha. For anyone that mught not know, when someone says that another person is "legal", they mean they like that person, that that person's cool. Just thought I might explain that a bit. :)
