King For A Day

Alex’s POV
I ran over to mike and tried to pull him off of my father. He had his hands tightly wrapped around his throat and was choking the life out of him. I tried to pull him off of him but my upper body strength was kind of non-existent. I started screaming for Jaime and tony.

“Mike get off of him now! I am so serious! Get off of him!” Jaime screamed. He grabbed mike and hauled him off of my father. I had never seen mike loo so cold. I knew he hated my father but I had no idea he wanted to kill him. Mike shook his head and dropped to the floor.

“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I don’t know what came over me. I just hate him so much and I hate that he treats Alex so bad. How could you look at someone as sweet and loving and innocent as Alex and hurt him? It’s not right and i just wanted him dead so he could never hurt Alex again am so sorry.” He started pacing back and forth across the porch. He pulled out a pack of cigarettes and lit one up.

“Michael it’s ok. It’s ok. You had a moment and it’s over. Just next time please control yourself. Walk away, smoke a cigarette, and punch a pillow. But mike you can’t just lash out like that okay?” tony said softly. He nodded and blew out smoke.

My dad started to regain consciousness. He sat up started looking around. I cowered behind mike. Mike started walking toward him but Jaime pulled him back.

“Alexander come on we’re going home. “He said softly. I was still cowering behind mike.

“Come on Lex I promise daddy isn’t gone hurt you. Just come home. We can start fresh. We can be close and I will never hurt you again. Come on sweetheart. I love you. I love you so much just come home please. Please baby.” I came out from behind mike and started walking toward my father.

“Alex what are you doing?” mike said grabbing my arm. “He’s lying can’t you see that. You must know that he’s lying. Alex please don’t go with him.” mike cried. I pulled away from mike and walked to my dad.

“That’s right kiddo let’s go home.” Mike screamed and ran inside. Tony was looking at me with pity in his eyes. Jaime and jack went in after mike.

We got in the car and headed home. I came in and sat my stuff lingering by the door. My mom came out of the kitchen.

“Hey sweetie. I am making dinner. Go get cleaned up ok?” she said in an unusually sweet voice.

“Yes momma.” I went upstairs and took a shower. I came back down immediately enticed by the smell of lasagna and garlic bread. It was my favorite. Now I was really confused. Why were they being so nice to me?

“Have a seat at the table Alex. I’ll bring you your plate.” My mom said while running her fingers through my hair. I nodded and sat down at the table. My mom brought me a plate with a large slice of lasagna and homemade garlic bread. I ate slowly because I know how they were about table manners.

“Uh mom?” she looked up at me and smiled. “The food is really good. Thank you for cooking.”

“awe it’s no problem. I’m glad you like it baby. Now we have some things we need to discuss. Your granny Esmeralla passed away.” I stopped eating and my mouth dropped open. My gran was the sweetest woman in the entire world. I knew if she could she would have taken me away from my parents.

“honey she left you a lot of stuff in her will. She left you her house in London, her house in California, all of her cars, and 20 billion dollars.” I started choking on my food. I knew my granny was rich but I had no idea she was that rich. Now it all made sense. My parents bringing me home, them being nice. They expected me to share my new found wealth. Oh this was going to be fun. The ball was in my court now. Time to play.
