King For A Day

Vic’s POV
I was sitting at home sipping on some diet coke and flipping through the channels. There was nothing on until tonight. Tonight was supposed to be me and Kellin’s movie night but I doubt that was going to happen now that he had demoted himself to being amongst the losers. Like I said I had a rep to protect and kellin just wasn’t the guy he used to be.

Ding dong. The doorbell chimed and I rolled my eyes. I really didn’t want company right now. I decided to ignore it. Or at least I tried. But whoever was at the door either knew I was home or was just going to keep ringing the doorbell like a fucking moron. I got up and stormed to the door and flung it open. Kellin was standing there looking completely miserable.

“What is it kellin? I’m kind of watching TV right now.” I said tapping my foot and leaning against the door.

“Victor what’s going on? We’re supposed to be best friend and you really hurt me today. I can’t believe you said the things that you said and you iced me out today. You wouldn’t let me sit with you in class, you wouldn’t sit by me at lunch, and when I tried to sit with you you said the table was full, and then you left me at school and I had to catch the bus. Why are you acting like this Vic? We are supposed to be best friends.” He said softly. I could tell he was choking back a sob.

It hurt me to see him like this. Especially knowing I was the one that was causing it. Part of me wanted to reach out and pull him into my arms but the other part of me, the part that cared way more about my reputation wanted to tell him to get a clue.

“Kellin you need to stop being a drama whore because it’s not that serious. I mean yeah being popular is awesome kellin but its also hard work. You have to be willing to work for it and having money is only part of it. You need to own your status. You don’t.” I said shrugging my shoulders.

“Will you help me victor? Will you help me get my popularity back?” he asked wiping his eyes.

“Well let me ask you some questions. Come in and sit down. I got drinks and food in the fridge. Help yourself.”

“I’m ok. I’m not really craving anything right now.”

“Ok well let’s get right to it. First of all kellin you are way too nice. That needs to stop. Those losers that you hang out with are beneath you. Second of all stop crying all the goddamn time. Part of being popular is never letting them see you sweat. Third you need to get over your aversion to sex. There are soooo many girls that want you kellin. Take it and use it. You need to become invincible and it all starts with attitude. Ok?” I smiled and stood up.

“So what do I do now?” he asked looking up at me with those big aqua eyes. I smiled at him.

“We need to take you out to be seen. First we so totally need to go shopping, then we need to take you to show off the new threads and the new and improved kellin.” He nodded and looked down at the carpet.

I could tell kellin didn’t want to do this and truth be told he didn’t have to. Kellin was smart. He could make it to college and shit like that but I’m not. My name was all I had. The doorbell rang again snapping me out of my thoughts. I frowned and got up to answer it. I opened it and my mom was standing there smiling.

“Hola mijo. I’m home. But I’m not staying for long I have to go to New York and you have to come with me.” I frowned and huffed.

“Forget it mom I’m not going to New York with you. It’s dirty, mean and I have no business there.”

“Victor Vincent Fuentes. You are coming with me and I am not going to hear another word against it. There are people there that you need to meet.”

“Who could I possibly need to meet that lives in New York?” I growled.

“victor…..you have to meet your brother and your father…..”
