High School Never Ends

I Hate To Lie

Before Amelia could drag Mike down with me, I was dragging him away from her towards our English classroom. I was gripping his wrist tightly, whilst pulling him down each corridor.
“Ari?”
I didn’t respond.
“Ari!”
I still didn’t respond.
“ARI!”
“OKAY! WHAT?” I snapped
“Well, a) what the hell was that? And b) you’re digging your nails in real hard and I’m worried you’re gonna draw blood soon.”
“Oh shit, sorry.” I mumbled, releasing my grip.
“So? What was going on? Last time I saw you two together she was throwing punches at you, If I were you I would keep my distance.”
“No shit, Mike. I’m not friends with her. She just… She…” I trailed off
“What?”
“It doesn’t matter, look we’re late.”
“Means you’ll get to spend more time with me in a detention!” He grinned
“Detention? No, no, no. I can’t, I need to get home to my mum. She needs me!”
“For what?”
“Oh, eh. Doctors appointment.” I couldn’t tell him the full truth, but in my defence it wasn’t exactly a lie. She did have an appointment, just with her therapist. However, she needs me to take her, she won’t go otherwise.
“Is everything alright?” He asked
“Yeh, yeh. Just a regular check-up. She just doesn’t like going on her own.”
“Just follow my lead.”
“What do you…?”
“Just trust me, okay?”
I nodded my head.
Mike opened the door, and I closely followed behind him. Peering up at the clock, I saw that we were 20 minutes late. Fuck.
“And you’re both late because?” The teacher questioned
“I…” Mike began
“Wait! Don’t tell me! You were fighting?” The teacher guessed
Mike smirked. “You know me too well. Oh, and Aria of her got dragged into it.”
“So, explain why I shouldn’t give you both detentions.”
“Look, I can’t speak for myself but this has nothing to do with Aria, she was just an unfortunate passer-by.”
The teacher sighed. “Go and sit down Aria. Mike you know the drill, principal’s office.”
“Yes, sir.” Mike saluted the teacher before aiming a wink my way.
