High School Never Ends

Sorry... Again

5, 6, 7 missed calls in total. They kept coming in: one by one. I ignored them all. My phone was exploding with texts. It was a shocking experience as I’d never felt so cared about. It was sweet in a sense, however I didn’t have the strength to explain to any of them why I ran away. To be honest, I don’t even know the full truth. Do I like Mike? Of course I like Mike, but do I love him? I’d never thought about it before but the thought of him being with some other girl made my blood boil. The last thing I wanted to be was jealous. I should be happy for him.
For the next hour, I flicked from channel to channel constantly. I wasn’t particularly looking for anything, just something to occupy my time.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. Jumping up, I crept towards the window and peeked out to see who was there. It was just Vic and Jaime. I relaxed slightly and went over to open the door. We said our hellos and then I gestured for them to come in. Awkwardly, they sat on the sofa and turned to watch my every move. They seemed to be very jumpy and cautious.
“Why are you guys acting so… So jumpy?” I asked
“Uh, well, uh, Austin kind of, uh, warned…” Jaime hesitated
“Austin’s not here.” I stated
They both sank down into the sofa and laughed at each other.
“Sit.” Vic commanded
“What’s up?” I replied as I obeyed Vic
“You seem a bit… Down?” Vic replied
“I’m fine. Just tired. Y’know with everything that’s going on.”
“Sorry.” Vic responded
“What do you think of Tasmin?” Jaime suddenly asked
“What do you mean?” I cautiously asked, trying not to sound irritated
“Well… It’s just Amelia really didn’t seem to like her. I was wondering if it was just Amelia being Amelia or if you felt the same way.” Jaime answered
“I can’t really comment, I don’t know her well enough. She seemed to glare at us but maybe I’m just paranoid.” I shrugged
“She has a record for messing us about a bit. She loves us… Just too much.” Jaime tried to explain
“What Jaime is trying to say is that she’s very overprotective!” Vic jumped in
“Look, as long as she doesn’t get in the way of this stuff with Paige, I’m not bothered.”
Vic sighed. “What about Mike?”
“What about Mike?” I shot back
“There’s something between you two, we can all see it. That’s why Tasmin was glaring at you.”
“There isn’t anything there. We’re just friends.”
“Aria…”
“Nope, just friends. What about you Jaime?” He seemed shocked by my sudden shot at him. “You and Amelia?” I raised my eyebrow
Vic rolled his eyes, knowing I was just trying to avoid the question.
“Just friends.” Jaime muttered. “I’m going to go to the bathroom.” He announced.
I nodded as he stood up. As soon as Jaime had gone, Vic turned to me.
“Tell Mike before it’s too late.”
“Vic, you seriously need to stop with this.”
“No, Aria you do! It’s obvious there’s something there and if you hadn’t noticed Tasmin isn’t keen on the idea of you two. She’ll stop you and Mike from ever happening if you don’t do something soon.”
“What’s the worst she could possibly do? Spread rumours about me? Will I become the slut of the school?”
“Aria, please.”
I sighed, yet nodded.
Vic and Jaime gave me a lift back to the Fuentes house. When we walked in, Mike was lay on one of the sofas throwing a bouncy ball at the ceiling. I shuffled over and caught the ball before he could causing him to have a fit.
“HEY! That’s really not cool dude!” Mike exclaimed
“So I’m a dude now, am I?” I raised my eyebrow, as I threw the ball back at him
“Aria?” He gasped
“In the flesh.” I smirked
Quickly he stood up and pulled me into a tight hug.
“I’m sorry.”
“For what?”
“A lot of things. For one, I shouldn’t have blown you off for Tasmin at lunch today.”
“You know, our friendship seems to consist of a lot of apologies from you.”
“I fuck up a lot.” Mike grinned
“It’s not really something to be proud of.” I joked
“Gotta be proud of something.” He smirked
“So Aria, you wanted to tell Mike something, right?” Vic encouraged me
“Right. Here’s the thing Mike…”
