The Life and Lies of The How-To Manual
How to Run Ten Miles in Fifteen Minutes
It was silent. My steely nerves had quieted everybody in the bus. My focused determination was solely on the road and the sirens that disappeared ahead of us. I had no clue how much further we’re behind them, but I didn’t care. I was going to catch up with that ambulance.
The rest of the band (and Autumn) were siting like statues in the seat. Vic was fiddling nervously with his hands. I saw it in the rearview mirror.
All was silent.
All was serious.

“DAMMIT!” Autumn shouted loudly. I peered back at her.
“What?” Tony asked.
“We forgot the All Time Low boys!”
*Two miles behind the bus…*
“Wait! Wait up!” Rian yelled as the bus steadily grew fainter in the distance. It rounded a corner and the boys started to lose sight. Four grown men were sprinting through the streets. Zack was struggling to hold his jeans up and hopped rather than ran along with the others.
“YOU BUTT-QUEEFS!” Jack yelled at the vehicle, earning stares from everyone around them.
“What was wrong with those guys?” Alex sighed.
“They were following an ambulance.” Rian added casually. There was silence.
“AN AMBULANCE!” They all screamed at once and began at a faster sprint towards the direction of the vehicle. They had no clue why the bus was following the emergency vehicle. They had no clue who was in there. But they did know it was one of their friends.
“Come on!” Alex yelled from the front. Jack trailed behind the singer. Zack still struggled with this pants.
“OOF!” Rian tripped. Zack vaulted over the man. They ran past some stores and kept going down the road.
“Wait up!” Rian yelled helplessly. The others shook their heads.
“Every man for himself!” Alex shouted. Soon enough, Zack’s pants got the best of him and the man went down, his jeans around his ankles. He struggled to zip them up as Rian collected himself and attempted to catch up. The two boys were now falling far behind the duo ahead.
“Intersection!” Alex pointed. The light turned red and the cars stopped, but traffic was too heavy for them to cross without dodging possible collisions. Alex stopped, stamping is foot in frustration.
“We’ll never catch up!” He yelled to Jack, who had now caught up to him.
But Barakat didn’t listen.
He leaped past his friend, jumping over the hoods of cars in the way of the crosswalk. Angry drivers honked their horns as he walked over the hoods of each vehicle and eventually slid over the last one. The light turned green and Alex was stuck on the other side.
Jack was in the lead.
“See you later, peasants!” He yelled back to them. Three boys stood on one side of traffic as a very determined man kept on following the sad sound of sirens.
