Alan's POV

Okay, I had been cooped up in this room for quite some time. It had been about a week and I needed to stretch my legs outside. Austin wasn't around the house. He went off somewhere-again. Although it was four in the evening on this nice Friday night, no one was in the house. His parents went out to a fancy dinner, or so I had overheard.

Shifting into my human form, I opened the door, leaving it open a crack. The outdoors called to me, and I longed to feel the sun warm my skin again. As I walked down onto the cement driveway, I quickly Shifted back into a cat when there wasn't a person looking.

Well, it wasn't as sunny as I hoped, but it was still good to be outside. For the past week straight, it had seemed to stay overcast all the time with minimal breaks of warm sunlight. Strolling down the side of the street, I clung to bushes and trees. The overhang provided some nice seclusion from prying eyes.

Checking over my shoulder I decided to be a little adventurous. My ginger fur flattened against my back as a bird few high overhead. It was that same stupid raven I'd heard and seen earlier! Paying no attention to it, I walked closer to the road. The black pavement was comfortably warm against the pads of my feet.

I never saw the car that came up behind me.

One minute, I was strolling along, hearing a vehicle come up behind me, but I paid not attention. It only hit me when I realized that they couldn't see a one foot cat. I had almost forgotten I wasn't five feet tall, like a normal human.

I hit the side of a tree five feet away and felt my legs crack. I meowed in pain, watching as the car drove by without a second glance. No one was there to help me. The pain seemed to flood the lower half of my body. I tried to change forms again, doing all I could to will. I closed my eyes, thought about being a human, tried to concentrate and focus, but all I could muster was a bad headache.

I sat there, thinking I might die. I had no clue what was injured! All I knew was that I couldn't move and the blackness was creeping up on me. I let out one last meow.

Footsteps ensued.

"Ashton!" Austin's voice called out. He gasped and tenderly stroked my fur. His voice broke, but the world was fading to black and it was all white noise. His arms wrapped around me, causing more pain, but I was going numb. Suddenly, I slipped and black out.
