Dear Austin...

To Many Tears to Count

LP's POV

We were out picking out flowers at a nursery. Hopefully, even though my mom had surgery, I could help her plant some beautiful tulips in an inside pot to remind her of summer, or something she's like. She always loves purple African Violets.

With my hands on a container of African Violets, my mom received a phone call.I recognized Alan's voice on the other side. Putting the deep colored flowers in our car, I smiled and waited for momma to hand the phone over so I could talk to my Ginger Princess.

I watched as her face went to shock, then horror and disbelief. Tears welled in her eyes as the phone call ended. There was no words as she took my hand and pulled me through the store, nearly half sprinting to the car.

"But the cart..." I whispered sadly. I liked the flowers in there and now I was curious as to why we were speeding down the highway. From the rear view mirror, I saw my mom crying.

"Momma, what's wrong?" I asked her quietly. What was it now? Please tell me it wasn't daddy!

"Rae...she's hurt." The strangled voice barely reached my ears before the dream came back, rushing to me. This time it wasn't Alan on the ground, dead or dying, but it was Raelyn. My tears ran down my cheeks, but I decided against talking. It would make momma sad.

When we pulled into the parking lot, I jumped out of the car before it completely shut off and took off to the ER, nearly getting hit by an afternoon visitor pulling out in his car. I managed to reach the ER doors with my mom hot on my tail.

She didn't condone me for nearly getting hit by a car.

Two crying figures were huddled in a corner. I recognized one as Alan and the other as Austin. No one else was in the waiting room. The brunette nurse just handed them a box of tissues with a sad pat to the shoulder before going back to the desk.

"Alan!" I cried out. He scooped me up in a tight hug that would've cracked ribs. He bawled into my shoulder as I let the tears dropped into his shirt. Austin went over and hugged my mom tightly. Both were crying as well.

The room was flooded by to many tears. This wasn't supposed to happen to us.

"She'll be fine, she'll be fine..." Alan kept murmuring.

It should have been me, it should have been me... I kept thinking back to myself.

As I let go of Alan so he could blow his nose, I saw Austin bent over in a chair. His hair was ruffled for the long day with his head in his hands, elbows propped on his knees. Although his tattoos intimidated me, the thought of Rae so hurt was worse.

I went over to him and attempted to wrap my arms around his shoulders in an awkward hug. Austin saw me and gave me a squeeze back in an attempt to reassure happy thoughts, but his red eyes and pile of tissues in the trashcan next to him betrayed all thoughts.

"Your sis is strong. She'll make it." I'm not sure if he was speaking to me or himself. I returned back to Alan. All this crying was making me tired. I crawled into his lap, sniffling a little. The same nurse that gave Austin the tissues went to my mom. After a few brief moments, she addressed us all.

"Raelyn will be in surgery for the next few hours, and will wake up about two hours after her surgery. The bullet just missed any vitals, but did do some damage. It may have cracked a rib upon impact, but only a few more x-rays will tell." She announced. Austin lifted his head to acknowledge the fact. After the nurse say that none of us were moving, she sighed and gave Alan and Austin another tissue box.

"Is it okay if we stay for a while?" I asked her, since no one else was going to speak. Her eyes softened a little at my tiny voice. Using the back of my hand to wipe away a stray drop of anxiety, I looked back to her.

"Of course. There's a cafeteria downstairs, and you can let me know if you need anything." She smiled. I thanked her and walked away. Six or more hours in the hospital, but it would be all worth it.

"She'll be fine." I assured Alan as he blew his nose into another tissue. I played with his necklace in an absent minded until I drifted off into an uneasy sleep.

This story has completely captured my full attention over the last few hours. I don't think I'll be able to sleep until I finish it. This is wonderful. I adore your writing and characters. Rae and Austin's relationship and the bond between Alan and lp are the most adorable freaking things ever. I've been laughing, wanting to cry, and majorly fangirling. This is beautiful and I love it so much. And the appearance of all of the various band members made me incredibly happy!
Okay back to reading.
