Ever since we met, I only shoot up with your perfume. It's the only thing that makes me feel as good as you do.”

ONE WEEK LATER

“Where are you guys gonna go?” Nicole asked as she sat on my bed, sipping on her Passion Tea from Starbucks. I’m surprised she wasn’t drinking an iced coffee.

I shrugged, “I’m not sure. He said it’s a surprise. He just told me to look nice.” I had narrowed it down to three dresses; one red, one black, and one outfit that was a black skirt with a gray crop top and other accessories to go with it. I stared at them carefully, looking back and forth from my shoes that I had laid out beside the outfits, then finally picking an outfit that I really liked.

“I was hoping you were gonna choose that one. Your boobs look fantastic in that dress.” She said making an ‘okay’ sign with her fingers.

“What are you gonna do tonight?” I asked as I hung the other outfit choices back up. I had to do it now or they would stay out of their place forever because I was too lazy.

“Cam wants to go out to eat. I don’t know where. I think he’s gonna invite like Jaime or something. I don’t know yet.” She rolled her eyes. She’d been complaining to him about alone time lately because whenever they go somewhere, it seems to always be with someone else tagging along. They’ve been together for years, so I guess this was the fizzle stage. She wanted alone time, Cam said that they live together and that should be enough alone time for anyone. She just continued to complain. That was her way of fixing the issue.

“Tell Himes I said hi. I invited him over for the Christmas Eve party but he said he was at his girlfriend’s parents’ house or something?” I was half paying attention to what she was saying because now I was looking at how I was gonna do my hair. For some reason, I was nervous. Even though Steven and I had been on dates before, and we were together for three years; this was different. He was different. I wasn’t exactly sure how I was hoping this date would go, but I was going for good. “By the way,” I added, looking over to her. “What are the New Years plans?”

She pointed her finger that had fiery red nails painted on it to herself. “My house. It’s going to be a big bash. Bring Steven. Bring everyone you know. Cam’s been buying alcohol for it all week.”

I chuckled, “I spend the night?”

“Duh, Bonnie. Can’t have you driving home drunkie. Your unofficially official room is yours. I already wrote your name on a piece of paper and stuck it to the door.” She grinned, sipping on her drink once more.

I laughed, knowing that this has been a tradition for years. Nicole and Cam threw the absolute best NYE parties. They were always bangers. And I was always pass out drunk. So, I had the guest room as my unofficial official room since then.

“Sounds like a plan. We need to go outfit shopping for New Years Eve, by the way.”

She nodded excitedly, “Let’s go tomorrow or Sunday. Or whenever because our jobs require us to shop, anyway.”

My nose scrunched up as I smiled at her and turned on my curling iron so she could curl my hair. This is what best friends do; help each other get ready for dates.

Once the elevator to my building landed on the first floor, there stood Steven wearing very dark black pants that accentuated his behind and a gray button-up shirt that was rolled up to his elbows. He was also wearing a black blazer that was folder three quarters of the way and paired with black boots, as well. He looked so handsome. His blue eyes met mine and the smile on lips widened at the sight of me.

“Bonnie, you look so beautiful.” He grinned, grabbing my face and just when I thought he was going to kiss my lips, he kissed my forehead gently.

A smile crept up on my lips as he did so and I returned the complimented back to him. “And you,” I took his hand in mine. “-look incredibly handsome tonight, Steven.”

He opened the glass doors bordered with a dark cherry wood to my building and let me walk out first, and then walked side-by-side with me to his car. The entire way over to wherever we were going, I kept pressing him to tell me where our date was being held. He refused to tell me but just kept chuckling and telling me I was gonna love it.

“Is it fancy?” I questioned, trying to get as much as we could.

“Mmm, in a way. It’s not overly fancy.”

“Oh my god, am I overdressed?!” I asked suddenly, looking down at my black dress.

“No, no, no. Don’t worry about how you’re dressed. You’re dressed perfectly.”

I smiled, a little bite onto my bottom lip. “You like my dress?” I winked, knowing damn well I looked great and that my boobs look fantastic as well.

He took my hand in his as he was driving and kissed it. “You’re leaving little to the imagination.” He laughed softly then shot me a wink back before putting his focus back on the road ahead of him.

“I think the last time I was here, I was here with you, actually.” I reminisced happily as we walked into our favorite restaurant together. It was definitely beautiful and we had so many memories here. We had our very first date here, and every anniversary dinner here, and once he told me he was thinking about proposing to me here, but he didn’t have a ring; he always said he had to have a ring if he was going to just up and propose to me.

“Me too.” He replied as we followed the host, whom was dressed in all black with a red tie on, to our table towards the back. It was pretty crowded, but where we were sitting was relatively quiet. Steven took out my chair for me and waited for me to sit, and then he sat across from me. Our waiter came up to us and asked us what we wanted to drink; both of us wine, mine red, his white. He never really liked red wine. I liked it because it got me drunk faster.

Sitting across from me was a man that I knew loved me with every ounce of him he had. Two years ago, I would’ve laughed in his face if he asked me on a date. I can’t begin to explain how different things were. He grew up a lot in the two years we were apart. I couldn’t stop myself from looking into his sparkling baby blue eyes as he spoke about an old memory we had here. On paper, he was my match made in heaven. And secretly, he truly was.

It couldn’t have been more perfect.

Nicole’s POV:

We had finally got sat at a restaurant we hadn’t been to in awhile. It was pretty crowded here between the guests and the workers running around making sure everything was perfect. We were sitting at a round table, with me in between Cam, whom was on my left, and Vic, whom was on my right. Jaime was beside Vic, and Tony beside him, with Mike on the left of Cam. I thought it was only going to be one other person with us, but no, leave it to Cam to nonchalantly invite the entire world to what was supposed to be our date.

Our waiter had come and gone with our drink orders and I was sipping on a glass of water with one sliced lemon in it. I wanted wine, which I would for sure get later, but I needed some hydration. Mike and the guys were talking about whatever they talk about when I noticed something in the distance straight ahead. I choked on my water, causing the attention to be brought to me by all the guys. Cam pat my back softly, “You okay?” I nodded softly, wiping my mouth. The guys eventually looked away and went back to their conversations and I pinched Cam on his thigh. “Ow! What the fuck was that for?” He whispered loudly.

I got closer to him and whispered in his ear, “Fucking Bonnie is over there. On her date with Steven!”

He looked past Mike’s head and further to the back of the restaurant and there they were, with the center light shining on them it seemed. They were smiling really big and he was holding her hand across the table. Cam’s eyes grew as he looked back at me, “Did you know they were coming here?”

I shook my head, “No. She didn’t even know they were coming here. Oh my god. What do we do? Mike’s gonna lose his shit if he sees them together- in person, right there.”

Cam nodded his head as if he understood me, “Alright. We just won’t say anything. No attention whatsoever over there.” He said, sounding assertive and leader-like.

We both nodded our heads and then proceeded back to the table conversation. I sipped on my water, ordering wine immediately to ease my concerned facial expression. I faked a smile then began talking to the guys about their upcoming tour that Cam was gonna be the tour photographer on.

“Heeeey, isn’t that Bonnie?” Jaime said, his attention focusing on Bonnie and Steven, making everyone turn their heads that way- even Mike.

Cam and I looked over to each other and waited patiently for Mike to react. I was cringing at the thought of this conversation that was about to happen. I knew Mike very well. I knew he was going to freak the fuck out.

Mike turned back around and scoffed, “You’re fucking kidding. I knew it. I knew she was fucking around with him again. Steven. Pfffft. I told all of you she’s just fucking spoiled bitch and she needs to be with someone who’s like that too.” My eyebrows furrowed together and I kicked him under the table. “Ow! What the fuck, Nic?!” He shouted, drawing attention from a few people.

“You know what Mike, you’re such a piece of shit and let me tell you why.” I took a deep breath, about to lay his ass out with my words. I was sick and tired of him bashing Bonnie every chance he got. “Bonnie was never fucking around with him again. I can’t believe you would even think she could stoop that low and do that to someone- like you’ve done to many, many girls, by the way. Bonnie is the best person I know and you were so lucky to have her. You keep saying that she fucked up and she did this. No dude, you fucked up. You completely overreacted to what: her being late to your fucking birthday? Get over yourself, dude. You’re the one acting like a spoiled, selfish, little bitch here. Not her.” I finished my little speech and then breathed out heavily. All the guys made faces and Mike looked angrier than before. Cam made a face, but he knew I was right. He had defended Mike the night they broke up but he knew Mike overreacted. Everyone overreacted. “And by the way, you can’t be mad at her for moving forward with her life. You’ve been fucking that Alysha bitch since the day after you and Bonnie broke up. The day after.”

“Look, I didn’t fucking overreact. I had every right to be pissed about it! She was the one posting all happily with him and she didn’t care…”

“Because he’s her friend. He’s her friend, Mike. God, you’re such a fucking dumbass.”

“Friend?” He laughed. “Look at them!” He gestured his long, tattooed arm in their direction. “Yeah Nic, they sure look like friends.”

Vic, Jaime, Tony, and Cam all stayed quiet as Mike was doing what I knew he was gonna do: lose it. “You know what, I’m gonna tell you the truth. They were friends while you and her were together. They got close because he was there for her when her and I weren’t speaking. He was there for her when you fucking broke up with her. Now, guess what? They are on a fucking date that is obviously going really well and look how happy she is, Mike. Look how happy she is being with someone who loves her for who she is and not judging her because of where she fucking comes from!” I was stern and my anger towards him was so obvious.

Mike stayed silent, breaking his eye contact with me and gazing elsewhere. “Are you kidding me, Nicole? Never in my life have I ever fucking felt something for someone like I did for Bonnie, okay? She was perfect in every single way. I know I overreacted and I know I’m a fucking idiot because I lost her. Dude, look at them. They were made for each other. No matter how hard I try, I can’t shake the fact that there’s huge difference in our lives. I didn’t have the things she had. I honestly don’t get it…”

I interrupted his rant, “-No. Fuck that. Stop giving me that fucking excuse. Just admit it. You were terrified of the fact that this guy that she has this huge past with is her dad’s right hand man. Because you know in your heart that Steven is always going to be the better man for her in everyone else’s eyes, and no matter how hard you could try and get rid of him, he will always be there. All because he went to college, and law school, and is set for the rest of his life at 28 years old and because her parents knew that, right? They knew that he was the safe one, the one who could provide for their daughter if need be. He’s the one who provides security and could give her whatever she wants. You’re fucking intimidated by him because on paper he is better than you. And look, I get that. I get how it’s an adjustment being thrown into a world where there are doctors, lawyers, and politicians coming from where you and I come from. But dude don’t be so fucking shallow. This is why I didn’t want you fucking around with her because I knew this was gonna happen. I knew you were going to let her down.”

The guys all fell silent and looked at Mike. Vic cleared his throat, “Look bro, Nic is right. I know you don’t want to hear that but…you really did overreact.”

Tony, Jaime, and Cam all nodded in agreement but didn’t say a word. Mike turned around and saw Bonnie and Steven standing up, getting their stuff to leave. She was smiling bigger than I’ve ever seen her smile and he was just as happy. He grabbed a hold of her hand and they made their way out of the restaurant.

“Fuck. I fucked up, didn’t I?” Mike muttered to all of us, but mainly to himself.

Yeah, dude you did.

Bonnie’s POV:

Once Steven and I arrived back at my place we had cracked open another bottle of wine and were drinking it heavily while we were on my couch. “Steven, I had such a great night tonight.”

“Yeah?” He smiled sweetly. “Thanks for giving me another chance. I mean it, Bonnie. You don’t know how long I’ve been waiting to get you back.” He spoke truthfully and it made my stomach twirl in a good way. “I’m just always going to love you. Nothing in the world could ever change that.” By this point, he was looking deeply into my eyes and moving fallen pieces of hair behind my ear.

I scoot closer to him, putting my wine glass on the coffee table. I decided in that moment to just go for it; to just be honest. “And for some reason, no matter what, I’m always going to love you.” My hand rested on the nape of his neck and I brought him closer to me and into a kiss.

We pulled apart and he looked into my eyes hopefully, “What do you say? One last shot?”

I nodded with a smile, “Nothing would make me happier.”
