Show Me Your Love

If you’re gonna be the death of me, that’s how I wanna go.”

The weather was pretty much as cool as it could get here in Los Angeles; and I was fine with that. The sun still went down early due to Daylight Savings, thus again, bringing a cooler air toward us Californians. Nicole and I were on a best friend date late this afternoon. It'd been about four days since my date with Steven and due to the both of us being so busy; I hadn't had the chance to give her the details.

"So, how was the first date?" She asked, sipping on her lime margarita on the rocks, sans the salt on the rim. Without me even noticing at first, a smile grew on my lips that were painted with the color Bruised Plum by my favorite Tom Ford lipstick. "Oh, so it went that well?" Her eyes widened and her lips pursed together.

"Nic, honestly. Oh my god, it was incredible." I took a gulp of my margarita; lime with salt on the rim. Don't know why I was a salt-on-the-glass girl, but I was. The taste was so such an adding touch to it, in my opinion. "And also, he got some on the first date." I winked and shot her a cheeky grin.

She smiled, "Well?" I knew she was counting on the details of that since the last time Steven and I slept together, it wasn't so good.

"Nicole, in the last two years, he must've had some practice because it was incredible!" I sat back in my chair, reminiscing on the night that happened in the last four days. "But also, the most important thing that happened that night was the fact that he and I decided to try it out again."

If I thought her eyes had widened before, I was wrong. Now they were the size of the moon . Part of me believes Nicole is very half and half when it comes to Steven. She was whole-heartedly supportive of him when we were together; the one boyfriend I had she did approve of for me. But when things started going downhill for he and I, she went against him. Maybe it was just her being supportive, maybe it was just how she felt about him. I was unsure how she would react to the news of him and I back together.

"Bonnie," She exhaled. "I'm honestly just so happy that you're happy. You are happy, right?"

I nodded, "Yeah. I'm not gonna make a big deal out of him and I being back together. I mean, we haven't told anybody. I think we're just gonna see what happens, you know?"

"I like that. Keeping it to yourselves to see where it's gonna go. I'm really happy that you're happy, Bonnie. I mean it." She looked like she had more to say, but decided to stop. I wasn't gong to nag her for the rest of her thoughts. I just honestly hoped she was happy for me. This time around was going to be different between Steven and I. I knew it would be.

Later on that night, I had arrived back at my house, exhausted to say the least from a long day, but also because I had quite the buzz from the four margaritas I had drank only a couple of hours ago. My loft was silent and a bit cold, as I had turned off the heater when I left this morning. Steven was at the office late today with my dad working on this huge case. Apparently, it was some celebrity who fucked up big time. I'm not sure who it was, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were Lindsay Lohan or something.

I put down my bag and grabbed a glass of white wine to relax. Or just to continue to keep this buzz I had going on. Not a far walk from me in a beautifully decorated wooden box, held all of my fashion magazines; Vogue, Elle, Allure, Harper’s Bazaar. I felt as if I was having a very, very late start on getting my NYE outfit arranged. It was a big belief of mine to look good ending off the year and starting off the year. There was something about being and feeling confident all the way through as you say goodbye to the year behind you, whether it be good or bad, and entering the one ahead. It was part of a mantra of mine and not many understood it, but Nicole did. And that’s all that mattered.

About an hour or so later, four fast knocks came from my door, startling me to say the least. I tossed the soft blanket that was on top of me to the side and walked to my door, opening it to a beautiful jawline and gorgeous blue eyes to match. I smiled widely as Steven placed a kiss on my lips then continued to walk in further towards the kitchen. He put two white plastic bags filled with styrofoam containers on the counter and then turned to me once more. He wrapped his arms around me and kissed me again, but this one much different than the one before. Passion coursed through this one as he filled the space in between us with heat. “Hey baby.” He said with a smile on my lips, not breaking the kiss.

I pulled apart before I wrapped my arms around his neck, “Well, hello to you too.” I looked into his eyes before pulling him down to me for more. His hands had landed on my waist, wanting to inch lower as the kisses got deeper and our tongue’s collided more, but he stopped before things got too heavy.

My eyebrow raised when he pulled back and shot me a grin only the devil could appreciate. He noticed the hunger in my eyes and then picked me up, throwing me over his shoulders as I laughed hysterically, and he hurried up the stairs to my room; slamming the door behind him.

He had tossed me on the bed, climbing on top of me and leaving trails of kisses all the way from my lips, to my neck, and lower and lower. He was simultaneously undressing himself, and me and I was honestly just lying there enjoying the scene in front of me, as I was the one getting all the pleasure. He kept teasing the only real weakness spot I had between my neck and my earlobe, by kissing it hungrily and then leaving it for another spot. He took off my black skinny jeans, pulling them off of my hips only to reveal a black lace thong and the weakness of my cold skin against his warm lips. It was driving me crazy and all I wanted was for him to not stop.

“What a way to come home from work.” He said, out of breath with a chuckle. He wrapped his muscular arm around me, bringing me closer to him.

My head turned to look to him as I placed small kisses on his chest then onto his lips, nodding softly. By this time, I was straddling him and kissing him seductively on his neck, my target being his soft spot; a spot I knew very, very well. His eyes closed as I had victoriously shot a bullseye. I smiled on his neck, leaving little bites on his skin and also earning soft moans coming from his mouth. He took notice that I was eager for Round 2 and he was not going to be the one who denied it, so he played along and let me dominate for this second half, since he was the domineering one last round.

After our two rounds in which we were both pleased to multiple orgasms, we decided to get back downstairs because apparently in those white bags he had brought home, there was food inside. If I ‘d known that, I would have thrown that shit in the fridge or something. I threw on my black satin robe and lead him down the stairs as he was just in his boxers. He warmed up our Chinese food and then we both sat down to eat it with a couple of glasses of wine.

“How is that case going?” I decided to ask curiously. I think I really just wanted to know which celebrity it was.

He chewed his food before answering—an obvious appetite worked up from what we were doing previously as he had been taking huge bites. “Oh my god, Bonnie. I can’t disclose details but I will tell you who the case is for.” He looked so excited and that drive altogether made him even more handsome than he was already. I liked that he loved his job so much. He didn’t become a lawyer for the money or the prestige. He became a lawyer because he loved law and order. I know that he loved working 80-hour weeks because he just thoroughly enjoyed it. I’ve only ever met one other person like that and that was my dad. And I think that’s why they made such a great team because they both loved to be there; even if it meant risking other things.

“Who is it?” I tried not to ask so eagerly, but he knew me so well that it came off eager no matter what.

“John Stamos. You know, fucking Uncle Jesse!” He began to laugh and I did too.

“No way! What’d he do?”

“I can tell you it’s for a DUI. We ended up getting his case because his friend had your dad on a past case or something? I don’t know. Your dad said he might let me run this one on my own, though!”

I lightly hit him on the arm, “Steven! No way?”

He nodded his head furiously, “Yes, Bonnie! Do you realize this would be my first case that I would be able to run alone? I’ve never done that before.”

I saw that glisten in his eyes, the one where he knew he was actually living his dream. Secretly, I knew that my dad would eventually pass down the firm to him. My dad’s partner from the beginning was going to retire at the end of this year, but he hadn’t made the announcement yet to the others except my father. I overheard my dad telling my mom that he was gonna ask Steven to officially be a partner and replace his current partner now. That mean Steven would get his old partner’s unfinished cases and he would also get an office; not a desk. My father had all the faith in the world in Steven; more than he had in me, it felt like sometimes. My dad always said if I had gotten into law that firm would be mine, but I officially declined his offer two years ago. I never told Steven, or anyone, that in that matter.

My dad wasn’t getting any younger, but he at least wanted to do this until retirement age; on average that meant around 65, but to my dad, that could be until he dies for all I know. Steven was the only man he trusted to run his place and keep it’s reputation up, possibly even making it better. I don’t know if Steven knew that, but I wasn’t going to tell him. I figured when the time came, my dad would bring that up.

“Baby, I’m so happy for you! And the fact that it’s John fucking Stamos, could mean business for you, if it goes well. Which it will.” I kissed him on his cheek, then his lips.

He looked me in my eyes, falling deeper in them as I was in his. “I love you so much, Bonnie.”

I smiled softly, turning into putty all of a sudden in his gaze. “I love you too, Steven.”

He placed a soft kiss on my lips and the night went on normally for us, then going to sleep after we watched our shows. I still had NYE outfit ideas in my head and tomorrow was going to be the beginning of a long day of shopping. I only had a day until NYE and I hadn’t even told Steven the plans yet and if he wanted to join me for them. He used to, but I didn’t know if in the two years we were apart, if he had garnered up some new tradition to ring in the New Year.

The next morning after Steven left for work, I had woken up and got dressed to begin my day of NYE outfit shopping. I had made an appointment weeks ago at the hair salon to get my hair redone and ready for the new year; again, I always did this. I think I was always big on New Years, even as a kid, because it just meant the end of all things for me. It was a chance to truly put the past behind you and get yourself ready for what was going to come with the new year.

When I was little, too young to grasp this mantra of new beginnings every December 31st at 11:59 PM, it was the fireworks that got me. It was that and sneaking alcoholic drinks from the adults and see the beauty in the thousands of fireworks that went off at the strike of midnight. Those went off to signify this huge celebration of a new year. I think that’s why it was my favorite holiday and always had been.

When I got older, it meant different things depending on how the year had gone. Would I strive for an even better year, or making the main goal for me to just be happier than I was this last one? Either way, you made a goal with yourself and sealed it with a kiss from friends, family, and significant others. It was such a cool idea to me, you know?

This year wasn’t so bad. The first half was really insignificant and boring, but the second half was really nice. So many great things happened, along with bad things. But this was the first New Years that was ending in such a great way. I had my best friend back, Steven back, my business was doing incredible, and I felt happier than I had in a long time. Even Mike. I mean, yeah most would find that two-month thing a mistake, but to me it wasn’t. He provided something different and fresh for me; a something that I so desperately needed. And that ended and he was probably off with other girls and happy and I’m glad. We both deserve to be with the ones we truly love and want to be with.

Once I had gotten my hair done, I looked to see that I had a missed call and a voicemail from my dad, which after I listened was telling me to bring him some lunch. I called him back and got his and Steven’s orders, along with mine, then went off to Panera to get it for us. I was carrying the bag of food and the drinks when Steven luckily greeted me at the door ready to help me.

“Hey baby.” He smiled widely, quickly giving me a peck on the lips before anyone saw. We had decided to not share our relationship news with anyone for the sole fact of them freaking the fuck out, especially our parents; his parents loved me, my parents loved him. “New hairdo, I love it. You look beautiful, Bonnie.” He kissed me again, holding it for a bit longer before pulling away and letting me walk ahead of him towards my dad’s office.
The other employees greeted me sweetly and I returned the kindness to them before opening my dad’s office door and walking in with Steven hot on my tail. “Hi sweetheart!” My dad exclaimed, pushing his glasses up to his head and walking over to give me a kiss.

“Hey daddy-o.” I grinned, giving him a hug and making myself comfortable in one of the ugly, brown, leather chairs he had available beside his desk.

“New hair, I see. I haven’t seen you that brunette since you were a baby!” He said, separating our food and studying my new hair at the same time. “Getting yourself ready for the new year?”

I nodded, sipping on an iced green tea I had purchased from Panera. “Mhmm, you already know it. Can you believe that I still don’t have an outfit? Gonna continue looking after I leave here.” I said as Steven walked back in, closing the doors behind him. He sat down on one of the chairs in front of my dad’s desk. “Next year’s gonna be a good one. I can feel it.” I smiled brightly, not being able to help the fact that I was oddly optimistic about next year.

“It is going to be a good year. Speaking of good years, and the fact that I have yet to announce this is beyond me, but Steven, you know how Black is leaving in the next couple of weeks?” My dad began as he eyed Steven.

I took a bite of my sandwich as I watched intensely waiting for the news to drop. This was going to make his life and I was happy to be here for it. I was just going to pretend like I had no idea like I’ve been doing. Steven nodded as he took a sip of his drink, a lemonade with extra ice. Yeah, Steven was an ‘extra ice’ guy.

“Well, I’ve been thinking over the last couple of months since I’ve known about it, and it would be impossible for me to run this place on my own, that’s a given. No one in this office deserves this more than you do, and basically, I want you to be my official new partner here at Black & Perez.”

Steven’s mouth dropped open and his eyes widened, his pupils getting larger as the seconds passed. “Are you kidding? Oh my god, Mr. Perez...Derek. Are you serious?” He was so happy, he could’ve cried it seemed. The smile that was imprinted on his face looked as if it would begin to hurt after a while.

A grin plastered on my face as well as my dad’s as my father chuckled, “Yes. I’m serious. Steven, I’ve known you for a very long time and your work ethic surpasses those who have been here just as long as you have, or even longer. You’ve been my right-hand man for so long, it’s only fitting. What do you say?”

Steven nodded what seemed like a hundred times, “Yes. Sir, Derek, yes. Absolutely. I would love to be the official partner.” That perfect smile of his wasn’t going to leave him anytime soon and I was thankful for that. They shook hands and then hugged and I stayed seated with a smile, and my sandwich in my hands. This was a big fucking deal, and it meant losing Steven even more to work, but that was okay with me. He deserved this and had wanted this moment since before I had even known him.

The doorbell to my loft rang and I jumped up eagerly from the bar stool that I had previously been sitting on. Once I opened the door to Steven, I shouted ‘Congratulations!” and jumped on him with a huge hug, making him drop his suitcase and coat on the floor to grab ahold of me. I attacked him with kisses making him smile, and hug me tighter. “Baby, I’m so fucking proud of you.” I slid off of him and back onto my feet so I could actually let him walk inside.

“Thank you, princess. Thank you. Bonnie, oh my god! This is the biggest opportunity of my life. I can’t even believe this happened!” He paced back and forth once then sat on my couch, his head in his hands, unable to fathom what happened today. “I’ve been waiting for this moment my entire life! I’ve always wanted this. And for the biggest firm in the fucking state, oh my god.” He went on and on before he stopped talking, noticing I was sitting beside him, rubbing his back softly. “This is the biggest moment in my career. In my life.”

“Steven baby, I’m so fucking proud of you. Let’s go celebrate.” I suggested to him, adding kisses slowly to his temple, his cheek, then his neck. He smiled widely as he relaxed a little from his excitement and let me continue to leave tiny kisses on him.

He sat back on the couch, pulling me onto his lap and rubbing my thigh. “Can we celebrate with pizza and beer?”

I smiled widely, “Of course we can. That sounds perfect.” I ran my hands through his hair softly. “You get the beer, I’ll order the pizza?”

He nodded, “Yes.” He held me down for a second as I was trying to get up and get the pizza take out menus from the drawer in my kitchen. “I love you. This new partnership is going to solidify a lot of great things for us, Bonnie.”

That took me by surprise to be completely honest. Steven and I knew we weren’t starting over because there was no way possible that we could do that, but him dreaming up a future for us—again, was heartwarming to me. I loved him. I was in love with him, and my inclusion in his future plans just made it all the better for me.

“For us?” I asked, seeing his expression change a little as if he shouldn’t have said that. “No, no. I’m excited. For us.” I looked him straight in the eye, meaning every word I said. His face changed back into a smile, and he kissed me softly. “Speaking of future, do you have any previous plans for NYE?”

He shook his head, “Last couple of years I’ve just been with Travis and we’ve gone downtown.”

“Okay, then will you be my date to Nic and Cam’s annual New Years Eve bash? We can get super wastey and stay the night seeing as how it’s tradition I get shitfaced and get my own room.”

He laughed, thinking of the past times we’ve been at Nicole’s. “Bonnie, are you asking me out on a date?” He winked slyly.

“I sure am. Is it a yes?”

“Well…I don’t know…” He trailed off. I took it upon myself to straddle him at this point and tease him a little, just because I felt like it.

I started at his lips, then back to his neck. His hands were rested on my butt, rubbing it softly. “Baby,” I said in-between kisses. “-you don’t, want me, to go, alone do you?” I saved his soft spot for last because I knew the second my lips touched it and began to nibble and suck on it a little, he would give into me; just like he always did. And, I was right.

He moaned a little, a little laugh escaping his lips as the pleasure was too good to be true, and it wasn’t even the act of sex. “Well, if this is your way of convincing me I’m all about it.” I had a smug look on my face when I pulled away, my hands rubbing his chest. “Of course I’ll go with you. The thought of being your midnight kiss makes me the happiest man alive.”

“Good. Now, you have to make sure you look nice and sexy so I can make all the other bitches jealous of me.” I winked, licking my lips and adding a bite to them.

“Oh Bonnie, Bonnie. I’ve got to make all the other guys there jealous. I mean, I’ve got to show off the fact that me, Steven Bohn, got the most beautiful woman in the world as my lady.”

“Oh believe me, sweetheart. They’ll be jealous.” I winked, confident with the outfit that I bought today was gonna slay all of those bitches at the party.

A grin plastered itself on his beautifully structured face and he looked me into my eyes like I was the only real blessing that ever entered his life. I knew that wasn’t true, today was the biggest proof of that. But, I was happy that even though it’s only been like five days, I’ve been incredibly over-the-moon happy along his side. That’s the real thing that mattered, right?
