Curtains Close; Take a bow. I think we fooled all of them now.
59 - Hold My Breath And Let It Bury Me
Rain's POV
"Happy Birthday Baby." I whispered to him, balancing his cake on my palms.
His huge, young eyes looked up and me and grinned. "Thanks mummy." He whispered back, sweetly.
"You're a big boy now. Four years old. You've grown up so fast." I gently tapped his blonde curly hair.
Oli had been painting up Danny's old room. He had refused to touch it for these two years, but now that Hanley was growing up, we decided to give him a bigger bedroom. I had to really argue to get him to set up that room, because he still missed Danny. And SJ. It was something that he never really spoke about, but showed it on his sleeve all the time.
"Honey!" I shouted down the hall to him. He turned around and put down the bucket of paint and the paint roller. "Come get cleaned up for the cake."
Hanley sat, quietly, playing with a tiny toy car that Oliver had bought him ages ago. He really loved that car, and we could never part him from it. He took it everywhere with him. And he had a thing for books. He always read books to me, which I thought was really cute. He was so clever and so innocent.
I lit the candles and Oli tickled Hanleys sides before sitting down beside him and patting him on the back. "Come on, make a wish kid." He said, before smiling and watching him so calmly.
He looked at both of us. "I don't have anything to wish for..." He sighed.
"Oh come on silly." I teased. "Surely you want something? Like a new toy car, or some new books? What about a nice big bedroom?"
He smiled. "I know exactly what I want."
Hanley blew out his candles and both Oli and I clapped for him. We read books with him and danced around with him for the whole evening. He loved us both so dearly, and there was nothing that came in between us. I was the happiest I had ever been in my life here. In a secret cabin in the woods with Oli and Hanley. It just seemed so perfect. Everything was falling into place now.
It was almost midnight now, and Hanley was fast asleep on the sofa. I scooped him up in my arms and carried him to his new bedroom, setting him down in his bed and kissing his cheek. "Goodnight sleepy head." I smiled.
"Mommy..." He slurred.
"What?"
"Are they here yet?"
"Who's here yet?" I asked, confused.
"My brother or sister. I wished for a brother or sister." He yawned, rolling over and drifting off to sleep.
