The past never changes

I sat there silently with Vic's father for a while until he says "so, do you know about Vic's?...." he trailed off, "yes sir, I do" I said looking him in the eyes,

"And you know that he can be sensitive at some things, right?" He said with this sense of worry, "Yes, I've been trying to help him, he has done the same for me"
I said looking down at my arms.

We sat in utter silence for a while longer until Vic and his mother came in with dinner,
For dinner we were having tacos,

"I know its not a big easter feast, I'm just not much of a cook" Vic's mother said sitting the food on the table,

"tacos are great" I said smiling, she returned the smile and headed back to the kitchen,
"What do you want to drink?" She asked standing at the doorway,
"Water is fine please".

we all sat down and began eating, "so Melony, do you play music?" Vivian asked me,
"I play the piano" I say awkwardly, "she can also sing" Vic said grinning,

"Wow,I'd love to hear you play some time, I'll bet you sound great" she said happily,
Vic's parents are so nice, but they won't be this way once they know.

Vic looked at me, his eyes saying 'how about now?', I nodded my head,
If there was ever a time to tell them it would be now.

He looked back at his mother, "mom dad, we need to tell you something",
Anxiety decided to creep its way up, Vic calmed me down by rubbing circles on my back,

"what is it Vic?" His mother said a little worried look on her face,
"Mel, is younger than you might think" Vic said holding my hand under the table,

"How old is she?" Vic's father asked, "she's seventeen" Vic barely manages to say loud enough to hear, "so she's under age" Vic's mother said with a tone of disappointment, "she'll be eight teen on may the 25th" Vic explained,

I started feeling butterflies in my stomach, they hate me now, they just have to.
"Well, it may be hard keeping it a secret until then, but you have my full support"
Mrs. Fuentes said with a kind smile, this was shocking to me.

Shouldn't they be disgusted by me?, why don't they hate me?.
"And mine as well" Vic's father said humbly.

We finished dinner and Vic and I were getting ready to leave,

"It was so nice having you two over" Vic's mother said hugging him,
She gave me a hug and whispered "welcome to the family", "thank you" I said letting go of her,

Vic's dad hugged me and said "you two should come again soon",
"We will come over before we go on warped tour" Vic said hugging his dad.

"Bye mom bye dad" Vic said leading me outside, "bye honey" she said closing the door.

We got in the car and put our seatbelts on, "so, that wasn't so hard was it?"
Vic said looking at me, I shook my head, it wasn't like I thought it would have been like. "they seem to like you a lot" he said starting the car up,
"I'm glad they do" I said laying my seat back, "I'm gonna take a nap now" I yawned,
"All you can do is sleep" Vic laughed, "don't judge me woman, I needs me my sleep"
I said, we both laughed for a while before Vic pulled out of the driveway.

I closed my eyes and soonly fell asleep, what a nice easter today had been.
