The past never changes

I wake up feeling a hand stroking against my cheek, then I jump up hitting my head on the top of the bunk. "God you scared me" I say staring down at shocked Vic still lying down. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to scare you" Vic said sitting up.
I chuckle "its ok,I'm fine now" I say.

Vic slides out of the bunk helping me to my feet.
"Wanna get some breakfast at IHOP before school?" Vic asks putting on a new shirt.
I shook my head yes knowing that if I didn't eat something he would be upset.
"OK" he said smiling walking towards the front lounge, I followed along noticing that everybody else was already up and dressed. "What time is it?" I asked taking in consideration of how much time we had to grab some food and then get to school.
"6:30 AM"Jaime said while chomping down some potato chips.
"Dude we're about to go eat breakfast, why are you eating potato chips?" Vic said looking at Jaime, "bro these are just appetizers" Jaime said grabbing a few more chips out of the bag before closing it. Kathy chuckles then says "we should get going so we have enough time to order and eat the food before school" Kathy says walking to the door with mike close behind her. they seem to like each other a lot.
"Come on Mel" Vic says grabbing my hand.

After a ten minute walk we finally arrived at IHOP, "finally" jaime said running to the door "i'm starving" he continued.
When we got in and picked out a booth to sit in the waitress came over to take our order, "what will you guys be having today?" She ask with a welcoming smile.
after everyone else told the waitress what they wanted it was now mine and Vic's turn to order, he ordered for the both of us "six pancakes with a side of hashbrowns please"
"OK now what would you guys like to drink?" She asked writing our oders down.
"Orange juice please" Vic asked politely.
"alright, your orders will be done ASAP" she said looking back up from her notepad.

As soon as our orders arrived everybody started to dig in.
Vic put two pancakes and some hashbrowns on my plate.
I picked around the plate for a while before Vic noticed and leaned towards me
"babe, please try" he whispered with a sad tone in his voice.
Kathy must've noticed cause then she said "Mel are you OK?" She asked me frowning.
"Yeah, I'm fine Kathy" I said with a smile.
I cut my pancakes into small pieces, "take your time"Vic said rubbing my leg.
i took a bite of my pancakes and then took a sip of my juice. Vic smiled rubbing my leg again.

After everybody was done eating we sat down for a while to let our food set,
I had eaten all of my hashbrowns and most of my pancakes.

"What time is it?" Kathy asked me, I checked my phone it said 7:35 "shit we need to be getting to school" I said sliding out of the booth. Vic hopped up,
"How far is you school from here?" Vic asked looking at me.
"its about a fifteen minute walk from here" I said to him.
"Is it OK if mike and I walk you guys to school?" Vic asks holding my hand.
Before I could say anything Kathy said "yeah that would be great"
"But you guys might wanna pull up your hoodies and put some sun glasses on so nobody notices you" I say staring at Vic. "I'm one step ahead of you" Vic said pulling out two pairs of sunglasses, he handed a pair to mike and they put them on.

"Alright we're gonna head back to the bus" Jaime said standing up.
"OK man we'll see you guys in a while" Vic said dragging me out of IHOP.

And like that we were on our way to mine and Kathy's school.
