I Never Meant To Be Your Pain

Tony’s POV-
I walked up to the bar to see Jaime and Vic drinking again.
“Tony!” Jaime yelled, drunker than before. “Where have you and the avemaster been?”
“Dancing,” I laughed at the nickname Jaime had given her. “I’m getting her another drink.”
“I’ll get it, buddy. Go back before another dude picks up your girl.” I rolled my eyes and laughed.
“Jack and Coke please.” He nodded as I walked back to Ava who seemed to be enjoying herself dancing all alone. “Jaime’s getting your drink.”
“Alright!” She grabbed onto my hand and giggled. “Did you talk to the guys about tour?” I leaned down next to her ear.
“No, I’ll talk to them about it when they’re sober!” She nodded as I pulled away to see Jaime walking to us.
“Here’s your drink, Ava!”
“Thanks Jaime,” she smiled, almost downing the whole thing the second she saw it. Jaime laughed.
“Do you have to work tomorrow?” he asked. She shook her head and drank the last of her Jack and Coke. “Thank the lord! I’m gonna go to the bathroom, okay?” I nodded as she handed me her empty glass and wandered off; stumbling along the way. Jaime turned to me and shook his head.
“Wanna go get a drink?” I nodded and followed him over to the bar, sitting down with him.
“So is Ava going back home with you tonight?”
“I’m not sure yet… I think her brother would be happier if she was home, thought.”
“Well he knows you take good care of her,” he smiled. “So when are you two going to start dating? You guys act like it and the guys and I are getting impatient,” he frowned. I laughed, shrugging.
“I don’t know if Ava wants to be with me. She doesn’t really like being committed to someone because they always end up hurting her.”
“Well it’s not like you’re going to hurt her, so what are you waiting for? She sleeps in your bed, she changes in front of you, you make dinner for her, and you take her out all the time. Hell, you two have even brought out the L word in front of me and the guys.”
“But she likes having all of that without the idea of being committed.”
“I think you should go for it.” Jaime looked around before his eyes landed on something behind me. I turned to see Ava pushing past people, grabbing onto objects around her to keep herself on her feet. Tears poured down her face and my immediate thought was Leith. I stood up as she jerked forward; grabbing onto me so she wouldn’t fall.
“Ava what happened?” I tilted her chin up, making her look at me. “What’s wrong?” I asked, panicked.
“Tony,” she shook her head, having a hard time with her words. It was like she wanted to say something but her mouth wouldn’t allow her to. “I didn’t take any I swear,” she cried. I looked to Jaime who was as confused as I was.
“What are you talking about?”
“Drugs,” she looked up and I noticed her eyes were clouded. “I didn’t take… I don’t know where they came from.” She started slurring her words. She looked around and started to panic. “Tony… Everything’s going blurry,” she looked up to me, covering her ears. “It’s too loud in here…What’s happening to me?” Then it clicked. Leith had slipped drugs in her drink at some point in the night. I wrapped my arms around her and leaned down.
“Can you hear me?” She nodded, holding onto me tighter. My eyes narrowed as Leith made his way to me, smiling. “Stay here with Jaime. I will be right back I promise.”
“Tony, don’t leave… I’m scared.”
“Everything’s going to be alright. Jaime will be right here with you.” I pulled away and turned to Jaime.
“Can you stay with her and make sure she doesn’t go anywhere.”
“Sure… what’s going on Tony? Is everything alright?” He had suddenly sobered up. I had no choice but to tell him what was going on.
“I’ll explain later,” I pulled away and clenched my teeth as I grabbed Leith’s jacket and dragged him outside.
