My Darling

Chapter Six

After Vic left, I decided to go to sleep since I was physically and mentally exhausted. But when I did, I was still pretty angry and upset and going to sleep in that condition is never a good idea. Well, for me anyway.

I woke up gasping for air. My hair stuck to my forehead which was covered in sweat. I shot up in my bed and looked around my room. My eyes land on my black iPhone on the table next to me. I reach over and press the home button to see what time it was. I couldn’t see the numbers clearly because I didn’t have my glasses so I quickly put them on.

6:02 the clock read. I internally groaned. Damn nightmares…

Well, it was obvious that I wasn’t going to get any more sleep so I climbed out of bed and went to the bathroom.

I looked at myself in the mirror. My hair stuck to the sides of my face. My eyes were drooping a bit, considering I just got up. I saw some dry drool on the side of my face, which I cleaned off with a washcloth.

Sighing, I walk out of the bathroom, shutting the door behind me.

All of a sudden, my mouth felt really dry. Ugh. I hate cotton mouth. It’s the fucking worst.

I walk over to my nightstand and grab my headphones and my phone from the bed. I plug them in my phone and put them in, blaring ‘Rap God’ by ‘Eminem’. I also grab my hair-tie and put my hair in a messy half-ponytail thing.

I walk out of my room and down the stairs to the kitchen. I stop in my tracks as I see… ugh what was his name? Toby? Timmy? Tony? Tony. Tony dancing with headphones in his ears while doing something over the stove.

I take out my headphones and I could hear what Tony was listening to very clearly. Damn, how can he listen to music that way? But then an idea popped into my head. With a smirk, I quietly tip-toed over to him. Thank God his back was turned towards me.

When I got close enough, I quickly yanked out his right ear-bud.

“That’s really loud!” I screamed into his ear, causing him to scream and fall on the kitchen floor.

I was laughing so hard, I accidently touched the burning hot stove. I shriek in pain and ran over to the sink.

“Oh crap, are you okay?” I heard Tony ask as he got up off the floor and ran over to me.

“Y-yeah. I’m fine.” I say, holding back tears that wanted to fall.

I take my hand out from under the water and grabbed a rag to dry my hands but Tony stopped me.

“That rag is dirty. C’mon. I’ll get you fixed up.” He says. He runs over to the stove and turns off the flame before dragging me to the barstool. “I’ll be right back.”

He leaves and I could really feel the pain in my hand now. I let a few tears fall down my cheeks.

Tony comes back with some medical tape, gauze, burn cream and a… blue-raspberry blow-pop?

“Here. Give me your hand.” He says and I obey.

He takes my hand in his and I blush a little. I look down at the ground she he doesn’t see.

I feel something cold being spread around my palm. Now, I wouldn’t say it was instant relief, but boy did it feel better. Tony stopped applying the cream and I felt something sticky being placed on my hand. I look up and see him putting the cloth like tape on my hand. We make eye contact for a second before I look back down.

“You know.” He says while wrapping my hand in the gauze. “Serves you right for scaring me.”

I look up and see him smirking. I laugh and so does he.

“I’m kidding, by the way.”

He lets go of my hand when he’s finished and takes the blow-pop and hands it to me.

I raise an eyebrow before taking it out of his hand.

“Thank you. Blue-raspberry is my favorite.” I smile and so does he. We fall into an awkward silence.

“So tell me, Mr. Perry.” I say while opening my blow-pop. “Why are you up dancing in the kitchen at six o’ clock in the morning?” I open my mouth and start eating my candy.

“Well, Miss. Maners, I was making breakfast for the guys for when they wake up. Sorry if I woke you.” He says.

“No, you didn’t wake me. I had a nightmare and came down for some water.” I reassure.

“What was your nightmare, if you don’t mind me asking?” Tony asks.

“I don’t mind.” I say. “Um, well I’m running through a forest. I’m covered in dirt, sweat, and I think… I think tears? Anyway, I just keep running and running and running but getting nowhere. Everything just looks the same, like I’m in a loop. But, I trip over a branch or something and fall to the floor and I guess that’s when I woke up. Hm. Doesn’t sound too terrifying when said aloud, I guess but it was just such a vivid dream.”

“Do you know what may have caused it? A memory of any kind?” Tony asks concerned.

“No. Not that I know of. I’m sure it’s just some random nightmare. No need to worry.” I lie.

We fall back into a silence. We were both looking down at the floor.

“Hey.” I hear Tony say. I look up to see him looking right at me. “I was going to make some coffee but I don’t think I have time. There’s a Coffee Bean down the street and I was wondering maybe you’d like to come with me?”

“Uh…Yeah. Why not? I could go for some coffee.” I answer. “Just let me get dressed and then we can I go.”

“Great. So we’ll be leaving in about… two hours?” Tony joked.

“Oh, ha-ha.” I say as I rise from my seat and up to my room.

I shut and lock the door behind me as I enter my room. I walk over to my duffle bag, since I have yet to put my clothes away. I grab a gray top, simple blue skinny jeans that were ripped a little at the knee and my favorite shoes, my white high-top Converse.

I make my way over to my bathroom and strip of my sleep wear. I quickly put on my clothes and glasses and brush my hair and teeth. I take out the orange medicine bottle from my cabinet and take out two white pills. I put them in my mouth and took a drink of water from the faucet before swallowing. I take one more drink to get rid of the horrible aftertaste and turn off the water. I walk back into my room and sit on my bed. I put my shoes one and lace them up tightly. After that, I’m pretty much done.

I walk out of my room, my bag and my navy blue hoodie on the way.

As I’m walking down the hall, I pass by a room with an open door. Being the curious little shit I am, I decide to peek inside the room to see whose it was.

I opened the door a bit more and see a few instruments. This is probably their practice room, considering the walls looked sound proof.

Guitars stood on their stands on the right side of the room, next a drum set. There was also a few mics next to some amps.

Out of all the instruments in the room, the sleek light brown acoustic guitar is what really caught my attention. So, without even thinking, I made my way over to it. It was like my body had a mind of its own.

I picked up the guitar and took a seat on the patted stool behind me. I rested my foot on the bar beneath the seat and set the guitar on my thigh.

I thought for a moment about what I was going to play. After a few minutes, I finally figured out the song. So, I started to strum the tune of ‘A Day in the Life’ by ‘The Beatles’ and I soon found myself singing the lyrics.

I read the news today oh, boy
About a lucky man who made the grade
And though the news was rather sad
Well, I just had to laugh
I saw the photograph
He blew his mind out in a car
He didn't notice that the lights had changed
A crowd of people stood and stared
They'd seen his face before
Nobody was really sure if he was from the house of lords

“I saw a film today oh, boy
The English army had just won the war
A crowd of people turned away
But I just had to look
Having read the book
I'd love to turn you on…”

I bit my bottom lip as I played the more intense part. I was never able to get it perfectly for some reason. But, I smiled widely and closed my eyes as I passed the part and back to the calmer melody.

“Woke up, fell out of bed
Dragged a comb across my head
Found my way downstairs and drank a cup
And looking up, I noticed I was late
Found my coat and grabbed my hat
Made the bus in seconds flat
Found my way upstairs and had a smoke
And somebody spoke and I went into a dream
Ahhh, ah, ah, ah. Ah, ah, ah, ahh. Ahh, ah, ah, ah. Ahh.

“I read the news today oh, boy
Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire
And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all
Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall
I'd love to turn you on…”

I
strummed the last bit of the song and opened my eyes. I stood up and placed the guitar back on its stand. I really loved music, especially when I played the guitar. It’s like I was in a whole different place.

“You sing really well.” I hear behind me, bringing me out of my thoughts and scaring the crap out of me.

I turned around quickly and maybe a bit too quickly because I tripped over my feet and landed on my butt and my foot kicked the stool on accident, making it fall on my legs.

“Max!” Tony yells and runs over to me. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you.”

“It’s fine. I’m okay.” I say as he helps me up. “Thank you.”

“No problem, but are you really okay? Because we don’t have to go if you don’t want to.” Tony says.

“I’m fine, Tony. Really. Now, let’s go.” I say reassuringly and walk out of the music room.

I walk down the stairs, Tony following. I run into the kitchen and quickly grab my phone and headphones from the counter since I had left them there.

I wrap my phone it the headphones as I walk towards Tony who is leaning against the wall next to the front door.

“Ready?” He asks and I nod.

He opens the door and steps aside. He gestures with his hand for me to go first.

“Oh, what a gentleman.” I say to him as I walk out the door.

I hear the door shut and lock behind me and Tony soon makes his way over to me. We walk in comfortable silence and before I knew it, we were walking through the doors of the coffee shop.

Tony and I walk up to the girl at the counter.

Tony placed his order and so did I. I placed my phone on the counter so I could get my wallet out to pay but Tony stopped me.

“I shall be doing the paying and there’s nothing you can do about it.” He says and I smile while putting my wallet back. I find it rude to refuse someone’s kindness so I just let him pay. But I was going to pay him back later…

“Thank you.” I say as Tony hands me my coffee.

We were about five steps out of the shop when I remembered something.

“Oh my God!” I yell, making Tony jump. “I forgot my phone in there! I’ll be right back, okay? I’ll be quick.”

“Here. I’ll hold your coffee.” Tony says and I hand him my cup. I say thank you and run back to the shop.

When I got there, I was pleased to find that my phone was still on the counter.

I grab it and turn to walk out but run into someone. I look up and see a girl around my age with bright red hair and a shit ton on make-up on.

“Sorry.” I apologize but the girl just looks angry.

“How about you watch where you’re going, loser!” She yells, getting me irritated.

“I said I was sorry. Don’t except my apology, fine, but you don’t have to yell like a psycho.” I snap at her.

“How dare you talk to me that way?” The girl says and I just roll my eyes. “Do you know who I am?”

“No and I don’t care to know.” I say and try to walk passed her but she just blocks my path. Jeeze, what is this? A movie?

“I’ve never seen you before.” She starts. “Are you new here?”

“Yeah, I am. Does that mean something to you?” I ask as calmly as I can.

“I’ll let you off with a warning. But the next time you piss me off, I’ll make sure to-”

“Max?” I hear. I look over the girl’s shoulder and see Tony. I also hear the girl gasp.

“Tony Perry?!” She yells and I hear Tony mutter, “Oh fuck.”

I look at the girl a little more closely and see that she’s wearing a Pierce The Veil t-shirt and many Pierce The Veil bracelets. I chuckle. Oh, boy if she only knew.

“Oh, um hey. Julie, right?” Tony asks.

“OMG, you remember my name!” She yells- wait, did she really just use ‘OMG’ in a real sentence?

“How can I forget?” I hear Tony mutter. I try to walk over to him but that Julie girl held me back with her arm.

“Why would he want to talk to a loser like you?” She says quietly to me. “He’s Tony Perry for fuck’s sake.”

“Well, Tony Perry is her friend.” Tony says and she goes wide eyed. I push passed her over to Tony and he hands me my coffee and I thank him.

“What?” She asks shocked but I just had about enough of her so I grab Tony’s arm and walk out of the shop.

Notes

Still not sure if the whole coffee shop thing is realistic.
